CrypticQuery
It's also pretty sad that no more DJ Hero games will be seen, and True Crime Hong Kong has been canceled :-(
DoctorAllosaurus
I'm kind of happy to see it go mostly because it'll cut down on the plastic instrument clutter that plagues many stores.

Sabre
3. Oversaturation: This is likely the largest single reason that Guitar Hero failed. Guitar Hero II expanded the franchise from the PS2 to the Xbox 360. Subsequent titles included Guitar Hero: Rock the 80s, Guitar Hero III, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: World Tour and Guitar Hero: Metallica as well as mobile versions, with many of the releases coming just a few months after the last. Combine that with the explosion of like-minded games like DJ Hero and karaoke-type games with similar rhythm-based mechanics — SingStar, Def Jam Rapstar — and the flood of music games all served to cannibalize each other. This is why CoD is going to burn in a couple of years. Dead Space, Gears, and maybe even Halo. The EA/Activision stratagy atm is to green light any game that has a chance of churning out sequal after sequal. If the original is a hit, they saturate the market until people are sick of them, then the cycle starts over again. Microsoft seems to be doing this with Halo now Bungie is no longer in control. Shame really. That said, I have no love for music games.
fox1235
Well at least we still have Rock Band. So does this mean DJ Hero 3D won't be made and the downloadable content that is suppose to come won't be?

Althougha couple of years from now they might a darker and edgier reboot called "The Guitar Hero" so maybe you can get a new DJ Hero then too. ICantLose74
Im not really as sad that the Guitar Hero series ended as I stopped playing it after Guitar Hero 3, my friend whom I game with alot however is heartbroken. But even though Guitar Hero didn't make much of an impact on me it will still remain a memory in my heart. R.I.P. Guest Mr. Nintendo
I'm not surprised either, I expected the franchise to die sooner or later now with Rock Band taking it's place.
StarFoxfan-FUR_ever
You see, I love Guitar Hero. I always wondered how Rock Band was even competing with it to begin with. Just a stolen concept (the play music thing) remixed by another company. Basically had most of the same music, though some bands were exclusive to one or the other, but that's not why I buy a really expensive game that takes up so many hours of my life. I could just listen to those "exclusive" bands other times of the day on the internet/radio. Guitar Hero was awesome, and will always be awesome. The only thing, they shouldn't have made so many games based around a single band's music. That was the true reason IMO, why there were so many games made in so little time. Allow me to educate you on your missplaced brand loyalty. Guitar Hero 1 and 2 was made by Harmonix before they were booted off and the game was given to the tony hawks guys. So, Harmonix decided to make Rock Band, and since then Guitar Hero has struggled to keep up. Also, as stated, Activisions polacy of ramming series into the ground to get as much money out of them short term as possable is largly to blame. The point I was trying to make was that they are the same type of game. Barely any differences unless you look at the soundtracks. Why all the hate for guitar hero? Sabre
I dunno. Maybe it's because the original devs got booted, or maybe because it's popular (like people who think CoD was better before Modern Warfare) or maybe they are like me and hate all band games on account of them being nothing more then "dur, press der booten wen told"
ZM Anonymous
It's a shame that this series is over. oh well. It was fun while it lasted. I think the reason that GH is going under is the same reason that CoD will go under: Activision. Fucking Activision.
matthiasrocks
Guitar Hero F--ked horribly because it just dumbs people down. I mean, if you want to jam to your favorite song then just buy an inexspensive guitar and shred on it till your fingers bleed. (I'm just saying.) And for the last time, Activision, Deadmau5 is NOT A DJ. WATCH HIS INTERVIEWS ON YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :x

I like to read other people's opinions and I must say you here make a very good point there about buying a guitar, at least I'd learn a cool talent with a real guitar. (It seems that would be alot more fun to learn playing a real guitar than just wasting hours trying to perfect a series of buttons (I remember those old days what a fool I was) ) Why did I buy Guitar Hero 1,2,& 3 it all seems like a waste of money now that I think of it.(I shoulda saved up to buy a cheap guitar ah well maybe I can try doing that now.) Owner/Technical Admin Sideways Posted February 16, 2011 Owner/Technical Admin Share Posted February 16, 2011 I don't have the time or the money to spend on a real guitar. I get my kick out of playing Rock Band, which that of itself is a challenge enough for me.
Nova
Ah Activision, Coasting on your kidnapped asian shoe makers. Forcing them to work and work to produce money until finally they die in a slow and excruciating death... *Cough Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, Mass Effect + Moar* I agree to not continue the development of per-say another sequel because quiet honestly they've introduced so many features over the 6-7 games that it is becoming so much like a real guitar you might as well pick a real one up. The only reason I purchased the sequels to the game was to simply play the different songs. I think that they can continue to milk the cash cow on this series with a flow of Downloadable Content releases. C'mon Activision! Run this shit into the ground HARD! In the future I hope activision BOMBS and HARD! They do nothing but fuck well deserving games in the raw asshole until they squeeze every last ounce of shit cash they can. Poor games... I will miss you. :(

Dead Space and Gears aren't made to be milked over the years like CoD,they have a more linear story,Halo and CoD could do whatever they want because their universe is much more diverse. So I doubt there would be another Dead Space like Dead Space 4 or something. Gears is not going to continue after the 3rd one,but there may be a prequel after that. Shinigami
Never really cared too much for Guitar Hero, but my cousin has a few of the games of which he's enjoyed. Sad to say he'll be disappointed at this for a couple days.
Rogue Fox
I'm not a fan of any game that requires you to buy an accessory like Rock Band, DJ Hero, DK Jungle Beat, etc. The reason is paying for an accessory that will probably become useless if a series dies out. I know some developers are trying to make games more realistic by having a person use a "real" guitar instead of a controller, but in the end it is just a fad.
