Blaze the Sage
There are several of these topics up already, so I figured no harm in starting another. I want to know what people think of Peppy Hare... what you REALLY think of him, not just the thoughts that make you giggle because of a line of dialogue. I'll post my own thoughts after I see a few other peoples' responses, as I genuinely want to see what people here think of him before I put my own thoughts out here. ZM Anonymous
He's a pretty good character. Though he wasn't one of the best pilots on the team, I didn't find him as annoying as Slippy. What I do find annoying about him is the dreaded "DO A BARREL ROLL" command that people seem to mindlessly utter out when they see something SF related (This isn't really directed to you people or any SF fan. Just those people that get their humor from Internet memes) It's like beating a dead horse into the ground. His age truly justified his appearance changes from SNES to N64 and so on, which was good. Also, I didn't like that he had spontaneously had a daughter in Command. It's like . . . what the fuck!?! What justifies this? I don't know. Anyway, those are my thoughts on Peppy
DZComposer
DO A BARREL ROLL! (Z or R twice) Problem, ZM? I want to say that in Japanese SF64 canon, a daughter for Peppy was mentioned. But I heard that so long ago I cannot remember where I did, and can't vouch for the authenticity.

Blaze the Sage
Well, here I go. My thoughts on Peppy Hare. I will start by saying that Peppy Hare is, when it comes to the internet, by far the most abused character in the series. The internet has transformed Peppy from a respectable, skilled veteran pilot into a meme-spouting idiot. Peppy is experienced, wise, brave, and a skilled soldier. He has served on TWO generations of the Star Fox team, and is the sole survivor of the first generation (as far as I'm concerned, Pigma died the instant he got Aparoid-ified). He remembers his dear friend from the first team fondly, and does all he can to support his son, and be there for him as a mentor and almost as a father figure on behalf of the departed friend who no longer can. One might wonder if, periodically during his days as an active member of the team alongside Fox, Peppy would find himself in years past again, flying with James before remembering where and when he actually is. The fact that Peppy brings up James as often as he does serves as an indicator of just how much he misses his old friend, and leaves one to speculate just how deep the regret over being unable to save him really goes. And yet, underneath this hardened veteran, Peppy has a family. His dearly departed wife, and his daughter. Just bringing up his wife makes you realize just how much Peppy has lost in hise life. His best friend, and then his wife. One can imagine how it might affect his thinking, and his determination to protect others. Spare those he cares about from suffering the losses he has, and to make DAMN sure he doesn't lose anyone else close to him. To lose Fox would probably destroy him. First James, and then his son, too, both extremely close friends. Peppy does what he can, and while he realizes his age is catching up to him, forcing him to retire from active flight duty, he still has the "give-em-hell" attitude from his younger years, and never hesitates to leap into action when the time comes, whether it be to save General Pepper by cushioning the crash of his flagship by piloting an Arwing underneath it (injuring himself in the process), or by sending a doomed Great Fox crashing into the Aparoid Homeworld itself in order to open the path for his friends to finish the job they started, in order to save EVERYTHING. Afterwards, when scolded for being reckless, he simply shrugs and says with a laugh, "Hey, I got results, didn't I?" Now, take a moment, sit back, think on this and more about Peppy Hare, and the character that Nintendo has created (or just laid the implications and potential for). Now realize how many people reduce him to four simple words. (Innacurate words at that, but that's a whole other issue.) Disgusting, isn't it? Deploy
I won't lie. I die a little inside every time I see those four words together now. Most of my close friends love the Star Fox series, and quoting Peppy. It's best not to take it seriously. Just because I like quoting Peppy (because it's just funny to me... and millions of others somehow), doesn't mean I don't respect the franchise, or my friends don't. I love the series and I think Peppy is awesome for other things. They should replace the meme with when he yells "DAGNABBIT!!" in Assault multiplayer. Cracks me up every time! I'm just kidding. In fact, my real favorite Star Fox 64 quote is not from Peppy. "Ha ha! Your not as STUPID AS YOU.. LOOK!!" :friends:

Fire Yoshi
A character that "died off" too early. Tbh, I'd rather have him pilot with the team over Krystal. ......... That's like saying you like pizza because someone told a joke about it. This is going to offend some people right now but I'm not excusing myself. Memes are the absolute worst way to get fans. If you like the series just and only just for one piece of dialogue or action, then you might as well not like the whole series itself

It's kinda like a weird window display. The person sees this meme, they end up trying the game it's from. This person ends up liking the game afterall. It can happen. :/

Blaze the Sage
*joins the ranks of the grumpy old men* Just as others are allowed to enjoy the meme, AND recognise the meme for what it is and actually enjoy the source properly, and appreciate it for what it IS rather than what the internet has bastardized it into, so too am I allowed to cringe in silent fury every time I hear/read those four words. MindyMcCloud
Imma put this train back on track. Peppy Hare, I think, maybe be the most "aware" of all characters. He's seen both sides, and he's seen the most in the series. Like, he's been through: James Dieing Wife dieing Serious, bruttle battles Fox's birth for crist sake Fox's wonderful emotional brake down (Drops out of Academy, Forms StarFox) A nice second trip to Venom Krystal The Fu*king Apariods Saving Gen. Pepper's ass Opening the Road Marcus's Birth( Is it canon?) New StarFox Team And being General in place of Pepper. ( And is that canon?) And he's always the serious one. He is hardcore man, and when he says, " Do a Fucking Barrel Roll.", he means, " Do a Fucking Barrel Roll." If you don't(at that point), you have two options; get your ass out the way or die. Barrel Rolls are quick, and easy to do. THAT'S WHY HE WANTS YOU TO! It's because he loves you  , or Fox anyway. DO A BARREL ROLL (PRESS F OR T TWICE) Oops, I mean Z or R, not F or T.
