Guest Mr. Nintendo
*Sigh* I'd never thought I would do this...but since I have been interested in reviewing/criticizing games, I would llike to give it a shot. Marvel vs. Capcom...one of my favorite fighting games of all time WAY before I played and loved Dead or Alive. It had many of my favorite characters in the game such as Megaman, Chun-Li and Spider-Man. The music was kick-ass, there were some great stages to fight on and nothing seems to tick me off from playing the game...which usually involves characters that I don't see in the next game or someone made a bad move and decided to remove/edit some features like the graphics and music. When MvC2 came out, I was excited to rush to my game store and grab the newest copy that was standing on the shelf. When I played the game, it was fantastic...more characters, more stages and more replay vaule. Then 1 year after MvC2...the crossover fighting franchise grew silent, I was afraid Capcom would be done with the Vs. Capcom franchise and get back onto their works like Okami or Resident Evil [Or in Japan they call it Biohazard]. 2008 arrived after almost nearly a decade of no Vs. Capcom game in the wroks (With the exception of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom). Then in April of 2010, MvC3 was announced at Capcom's Captivate press show in Hawaii in April of 2010. Ryota Niitsuma (Best known for his works like Street Fighter IV and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom) signed on as director and producer for the game. As the days passed since the game was announced, I could barely wait to watch gameplay footage of it on Youtube...but it didn't happen until E3 of 2010. Watching the gameplay footage one after another, I was excited to see my characters from the previous games to come back and please me...when the Marvel and Capcom characters were announced mid-to-late 2010, this was my reaction: All of a sudden, I don't see Megaman, Ruby Heart and many other of my favorite characters. I don't even know these characters that were added... is this what we get after Keiji Inafune resigned Capcom? Oh well, whether I know any of the characters or not, I'm still getting the game like everyone else will. So I decided to pre-order the special collector's edition of the game (I got it for Xbox 360, so content may be different in the game if you have the PS3 version) and I waited until 2/15...when that day came, I was excited to go to my game store, pick up my reserved copy and go back home to play it. When I turned on my console and popped in the game's clean and shiny disc...excitement was going up. After the logos and the opening movie were shown, I was ready to play the game. I selected "Offline" mode and then "Arcade" mode...a moment later, I was taken to the character selection. This is what I heard from the announcer: "Welcome to Marvel vs. Capcom 3! We're gonna take you for a ride!!" The announcer was OK but it certainly is NOT better than MvC2's announcer, I wish I could turn off the announcer but there's no option to do so. Again, I didn't care and I wanted to fight, so I picked Arthur, Viewtiful Joe and Zero (Luckily, there was no time limit to pick your characters like in TvC). After setting the difficulty (I setted it to Normal) and the time limit (Was set to Infinte), I was ready to fight the CPU... As soon as the game was about to start, I got a intro from my character Arthur (Whoever you pick first usually makes a intro) who said "Show me your medal!! ...Or something." I laughed a little and was about to play the game. But somehow during the fight, at first I thought my controller was whacked up because I always seem to perform HYPER combos whenever I pushed the A button...turns out the "Simple" controller option was toggled. I don't remember playing MvC2 like this at all and the controls seem like something I would use for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Luckily there's the "Normal" control option if you're familar and like to use MvC's controls. The graphics...are decent, yes they are decent. The graphics look the same as Street Fighter IV's and...they don't seem to look something that you'd find in a comic book (Other than the words for combos, starting the fight, KOs and etc.), so I was a little disappointed. The layout looks like Street Fighter IV too, for your HYPER combos, the time limit and the character's health. What, was Capcom too lazy to come up with a better design? So cutting to the victory, Arthur says "You lack dicplene, O' foregin knight!" and gets a key and then my score gets entered...then after the character quotes from a battle, I move on to the next battle...and the next until I reached to stage 7, that stage is where the final boss lies and awaits you. The villian of the game is named "Galactus" who's plan is to you guessed it: "Take over the world." I do not know why it's just me but Galactus looks like a rejected Magneto character design. Anyhoo, I start by fighting a character that apparently Galactus controls...the character is pretty much a Marvel/Capcom character, only in a form that I would say that Alpha-152 from Dead or Alive 4 is like. After the fight, I got to fight the villian which it was too easy of a challenge to do, back in MvC2, Abyss was a pain-in-the-ass to take down...well OK, there's SOME challenge to it but it's not hard as I expected it to be. Galactus would spam his lightning attack off of his finger like Master Hand from Super Smash Bros. and then try to crush me by grabbing my character and squashing it, thankfully you can break free. After the boss battle, the game was offically over and I got Viewtiful Joe's ending. DO NOT WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE ENDING YET... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXwAjjx7Hzc Looks like Capcom decided to follow the same formula used in TvC and turn this into 1 still frame with the character and insted of getting like 3 frames of your character, you only get 2, I understand many of us won't shut up for this game to come out but I think Capcom may have rushed the development. After the character ending, the credits roll and...guess what? Nah I'm just kidding. The game is over, you unlock new characters, new character models, new music and etc. Now go back and play the game to get the same process. The only downside I found in this game is...YOU CAN'T ENTER YOUR HIGH SCORE AND YOUR NAME/INTIALS!!! Now I have seen nearly many Vs. Capcom games using the high-score feature but...why not this? Well it turns out you can send high scores...on Xbox live, PSN, whatever!! Now here is the part I get really ticked off at...THE ENGINE THE GAME USES!!! I was expecting the game to use the same engine that is used in Street Fighter IV but it turns out it's not because the engine MvC3 uses is MT Framework which has been used previously in games like Dead Rising 1, Lost Planet 1 and 2, Devil may Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5. The engine is horrible...just horrible. Another thing I'm ticked off at is how this is very similar to Tatsunoko vs. Capcom in terms of controls and gameplay. Sounds like a game a casual gamer would want and a hardcore gamer (Not implying that I am one) would simply be frightenned away by it. But again...controls can be switched, so it's sort of a good sign. MY FINAL OPINION: 10 years and this is what we get after being patient for the next Vs. Capcom game to come?!? While some characters are good, the stages are good and the designs you unlock for the game are a nice addon, I wouldn't say this by far the best crossover fighting game of this year or in the time of gaming but I wouldn't say it's the worst crossover game to exsist. (That belongs to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe) This game is pretty decent although you won't find too much of a challenge here other than players you fight online. As far as the game is released now, there are still new characters to come into fray but only for DLC which I can only hope Megaman of any kind will join. Maybe as the years go by, we'll probably get a great Vs. Capcom title like for me: Konami vs. Capcom, Tecmo + Team Ninja vs. Capcom, Nintendo vs. Capcom, SEGA vs. Capcom, who knows what! There's plenty of suggustions out there awaiting to happen!
Nova
Would you recommend this for someone who has never played a Fighting Game and is looking for something flashy with recognizable characters?
ballisticwaffles
You do complain about chaercters you havent seen before, perhaps cause The companies are constantly making new games? Most of your complaints are how this game isnt exactly like all the other games you played, therefore, it sucks.
Guest Mr. Nintendo
Would you recommend this for someone who has never played a Fighting Game and is looking for something flashy with recognizable characters? I would in fact recommend this game for people that are still new to the Vs. Capcom series since there are simple controls and easy challenges in the game, plus some recognizable characters...if you happen to know many. El Zorro de la Estrella
Nah dude, I know who Galactus is lol. I just find it strange that Mr. N doesn't know who he is, cuz Galactus is like the main bad guy in Marvel AND was in the last FF movie. I don't mean anything insulting by that tho! :friends:
Guest Mr. Nintendo
To be honest...I'm more of a DC than I am of a Marvel.
Nova
Now that I've noticed the new trailers for Mortal Combat, I think I will be holding out for that. :P
