Xortberg
Alright, so I was browsing Serenes Forest and noticed that they're doing a whole lot of what are called 'draft tournaments.' Curious as to what these were, I looked into it and found a rather long-winded topic explaining them in detail. I won't bore you with all the tl;dr of it, so here's a brief summary that will hopefully cover all the important bases. I myself am proposing one of these for FE7, so if you take the time to read through all this and decide that it's cool, feel free to sign up. However, don't put your name down unless you're fairly sure you'll be able to keep up and not end up dropping the whole thing for whatever reason. The Premise The entire premise of a draft tournament is to play through a chosen game (I personally am setting up for FE7, but it could be done for any of them) using a predetermined set of characters in the lowest amount of turns possible. Certain characters will be given to all participants (any units you are forced to deploy, maybe a Jeigan) and the rest will be chosen a la picking teams in high school, to be explained in slightly greater detail later. Undrafted characters (Say participant A calls dibs on Pent) cannot be used in any way to contribute towards combat. That means, even if you unequip them and let enemies attack them, you have broken the rules, and will be penalized. Certain exceptions can be made (i.e., using an undrafted character to recruit one of your own draftees) but for the most part they are forbidden. The Drafting Process - Note that, since the post on SF does a much better job of explaining it than I possibly could, I will simply be copypastaing it. There will be some unfamiliar names, but just roll with it. Donna's results are me, Soul, herself, Furetchen in that order. As I am myself and therefore not a smart man, I draft Neimi*. Furetchen, far down the line, shakes his fist in mute rage, as I have taken his favorite character out of the pool. Play passes to Soul, who drafts Syrene because he's kooky. Donna then drafts Kyle, and play moves to Furetchen. Furetchen, being at the end of the line, gets to draft twice and picks Franz and Vanessa - then play rolls back to Donna, then Soul, then me twice, then Soul. And around and around it goes until the characters are all gone - or until the teams are equal and there aren't enough characters to make another pass. To remember the order, simply count the number of contestants, say the last number twice, and go back around. 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3 ... Obviously, you don't want to hold up the draft. If you're pretty sure you're going to be sleeping or at school or at work when your turn comes up, and you won't be back for a while, you're allowed to implement a contingency plan. This involves - generally - sending a PM to another user with a list of picks. Let's go back to this FE8 draft that's going on. We're early in the draft, and we're waiting for Furetchen to get his double-pick done. Donna knows she'll be in bed like a good girl when Furetchen makes his pick and doesn't want Soul to have to wait. So, Donna sends Soul a PM. Generally speaking, I like to send the PM to the person drafting immediately after me. The reasons are many; the person can't shift his picks (soul: ooh, forde's a good idea. yoink!) to block me, and he's the person who would be stuck waiting anyway were I not around. Then, to the example, if Soul shows up before Donna does, he can say "Donna took Forde, and I want Lute." It's generally considered polite to leave a notice in the thread stating you might miss this pick and your second is X, additionally. Finally, I find it's best to, when implementing this plan, have a hierarchy of one plus however many drafters are coming before you. So if you're waiting for two people to draft, have three characters lined up for your second. If you're waiting for the double-pick and two more ...well, at a certain point there's no reason to have a second. This is really only for if you're almost up for picking and won't be ready. Rule of thumb: if there are more than two people between the current status and you, it's not worth it. * - for God's sake, if you're drafting FE8 don't take Neimi first. And that's about it for the drafting. Now, we move on to the actual tournament. Playing the Game Once the drafting has been completed and each participant has their full roster, the tournament itself begins. The rules vary from tourney to tourney, but the idea is to use your characters to beat the game with the lowest turncount possible. Some people like updating their progress after each chapter is beaten, some might want to post every few chapters with some screenshots, and for those among us who feel like it they can just record the entire process and upload it to Youtube. In any case, the fight is on and it only ends when everyone involved is done playing. Generic Ruleset - Once again, pulling straight from SF. The Main Lord (defined as being the designated Seizer) is free use for everybody, all the time. * FE6/7: Marcus and Merlinus are free for all. * FE7: Matthew is allowed to open chests, and exactly only that. Whoever drafts him can still use him to fight. * FE7: Athos is free for all. * FE8: Seth is prohibited. Ephraim, being a sub-Lord, is counted under the main clause. * FE9: Titania is free for all. One Laguz Royal (Tibarn/Naesala/Caineghis) is also free, at the player's discretion. * FE9: Ena and Nasir are one and the same. * FE10: Sothe is free for all. Micaiah, being a sub-Lord (has her own Seize chapters, counts as a Commander in 4-E) is counted under the main clause. * FE10: Black Knight and Lehran are one and the same. * FE11: Jeigan is free for all. Gotoh or Nagi, at the player's discretion, are free for all. Meatshielding, defined as being attacked without an equipped weapon: * FE6/7/8/9/10: Prohibited unless stated. * FE11: Allowed unless stated. Gaiden chapters, defined as anything that can be skipped or have its requirements bypassed: * FE5: User option. Turncounts below 20 are ignored for the final tally. Penalties extracted per norm. * FE6: Forced unless stated. Turncounts apply per normal. * FE7: 19xx and 22x/23x (Genesis) are prohibited, all others forced. Turncounts apply per normal. * FE11: User option. Turncounts below 20 are ignored for the final tally. Penalties extracted per norm. Undrafted units cannot do ANYTHING EXCEPT: * FE*: Shop, trade, rescue undrafted characters, recruit characters. * FE6/7/8/9: Find hidden treasure. In FE10 this is prohibited. I did not forget. * FE11: Die. * Everything, everything else is prohibited, but remember Rule Zero: the OP has the final word. Turn penalties for breaking the above: * FE6/7/8/9/11: 4 turns per unit per chapter. Multiple actions by the same unit do not incur multiple penalties. So yeah, there's the premise of it, so post here if you're interested in taking part in this craziness and if you feel you have the time to complete the tournament. No, it's most definitely not a solo challenge. It's low turns, which means you really have to plan and make use of all of your units. Have you ever watched any low-turn runs? DoctorAllosaurus
If I can find my GCN, I'll give this a shot. I only have FE7 at the moment, my copy of Path of Radiance is still in Florida... I really need to get that back from my step-brother.

Only reason I never do in casual plays is because I like getting support convos (even though I have 100%).
Xortberg
Aight. I've never expressly tried for low turns myself, but I have speedbombed chapters several times and it can't be too hard. So is that you signing up?
Robert Monroe
Maybe. Sniff. Maybe. I'll think about it further.
