Blaz3
I'm just interested to see whether or not you here like the gameplay style that Star Fox Assault use(Classic rail shooter, all range flight, on foot missions and all range landmaster) or do you prefer SF64's Arwing classic rail shooter, all range and rail shooter landmaster? Controls don't make much of a difference but if there is a problem with controls mention it and me, personally, I could not think of a way to better improve SF Assults' onfoot missions (Other than changing controls) I ask this because the main review on Gamespot said that the landmaster controls and the onfoot parts of the game were its main downfall. Dark Fox
to be honest with you, i never liked that 'bout 64. I was like "look you CAN fly everywhere, what would stop you? GAH!" so much tactical skill lost........64 was great, but it could have been legandary. thus assult, all hail the death of rail shooters ('cept for those money-sucking arcade ones)
Kal
I liked Assault's gameplay better, but not for DF's reasons. The on-rails levels were the best ones, but on-rails Landmaster just seemed...forced. If Assault had more on-rails Arwing levels, it would have been nigh-flawless in my book.
Sol-Ratcht Saporro
I liked the on-foot missions that Assault had. In SF64, when they tried the on-foot multiplayer, it kinda sucked. But nevertheless, I liked SF64 too. I believe Assault's gameplay has more versatility and interest.
Inuyasha
I think 64 was better. Sure, not as polished, but I find myself going back to SF64 more often than I do Assault. -Inuyasha
brotheroffalco
I think 64 was better. Sure' date=' not as polished, but I find myself going back to SF64 more often than I do Assault.[/b'] -Inuyasha ditto, that and the landmaster controls in assult were a little akward to get used to, and if I haven't played it in a while my skill with a landmaster is non existant. I'll agree that the SF64 landmaster rails missions seemed like the game was rushing you but I look at the landmaster, and especially the blue marine, as more of a try at variety than anything. BTW Multipule paths rule
Master Jal
64's had more replayabilaty because of the map you can go this way or that way rather than you are going to do the same missions in the same order each time you play and in assault i didnt have landmaster control problems. Blaz3
Master Jal, you have a good point there. But I also want to say to brotheroffalco, I quite liked the landmaster controls for assault, except for bumpy maps (most of them) the landmaster didn't need to move much, I just used it to shoot stuff down because it was uber powerful. It was much too slow and needed to get going to get faster, which was realistic but annoying. Oh and the turning was terrible.
brotheroffalco
my biggest problem came with the way it moved I could not turn it if my life depended on it and I can take it down in multiplayer both being on foot and in an Arwing. I say make strafing L and R and let turning be right and left.
Four-eyed Vulpine
I liked Assault better, because of the variety of modes. Though, I wish it had multi-path gameplay like SF64 had. P.S. I didn't have any Landmaster control problems either.
Blaz3
Brotheroffalco, I find taking down the landmaster in multiplayer on foot is quite easy as well, My friends have a habit of trying to ram into me with the landmaster so I try to jump on top of the landmaster. While my friends are confused as to where I am, I whip out my machine gun/gatling gun look straight down and hit the R button. Man its fun to watch their expression as they see their landmaster totally destroyed. Its soo funny!!! Oh and my one problem with the arwing is that if you ram into a wall, you don't get warning that you're arwing is getting destroyed, Some of my friends who haven't played before keep trying to shoot me in their arwing as its ramming against the wall only to find it gets destroyed. They get all confused that their arwing gets destroyed. It should at least rumble when you get hit, and it needs to make a crunching sound to warn you. Kal
Yeah, that's one thing I missed. In the old SF, the screen would flash red a few times; SF64 had the screen going crazy when you hit something. Assault...hey look, I'm shooting one laser now, when did that happen?
Four-eyed Vulpine
The ONLY clue you have that you're getting damaged by structural elements in Assault is when the section of your Arwing taking the damage flashes red while it is contact with the structure. In comparison with the big picture, it can be difficult to notice, so I recommend keeping a close eye on the ship when flying in close proximity to an object or structure. Another subtle hint is if you are flying close to an object and you see your health meter start to deplete, even though you are not receiving enemy fire.
