"User"
http://www.tmrzoo.com/2011/22013 Looks like Sony is embroiled in fight with LG over patent infringement regarding the Blu-Ray devices. Doesn't surprise me that Sony would be stealing from another company... :/
Sabre
I doubt this will have any meaningful effect to consumers though. Hardley anyone has a PS3 here anyway.

Fang O'Donnell
Welp it's a good thing I like Nintendo. Oh, and it also helps that I don't live in Europe
Star Fox Runner
Now THAT'S interesting. According to the article, LG is trying to to extend the ban to the US as well. This could really kill Sony if that happened, as a whole, not just their gaming market.
Scott7
I figured as much, I mean...I personally don't know anyone who plays more PS3 then they do Xbox 360. well... I bought the ps3 instead of the 360 since i knew it was likely to have better 'quality' players then the 'quantity', most of the people i knew on PS home were very mature when i was still playing. That, and i didn't think the whole "golden membership' thing really was worth it when most of the demo's on ps3 were free.... <_<

I've played online games on PC, wii and DS, and various genres. People often make the claim of "system/game genre x has more mature players" but I have yet to see that. LoneWolf
I think I read somewhere else that it's just an import ban. No PS3s in, but you can still use yours. According to the article, LG is trying to to extend the ban to the US as well. This could really kill Sony if that happened, as a whole, not just their gaming market. If this is true...Time to grab a shotgun and climb onto the roof. IF YOU WANT MY PS3 COME GET IT!

Your right Sabre, it's only the ones that were yet to leave the warehouses that were seized. They can't really do anything about the ones that reached the stores or have already been sold. Fang O'Donnell
True but it will do damage to Sony but I expect it to be minor and something PS3 could bounce back from fairly easily

Shinigami
Not to mention I don't see how this is going to blow over without an outcry of rage from a hell of a lot of people saying that this isn't fair. Especially the US--LG pulling this off is close to the account of a monopoly.
Rogue Fox
Well this could be interesting considering I just got a PS3 for Christmas. So LG is angry because PS3 has a Blu Ray Player. Sony may have to remove the Blu Ray from the next generation of PS3 or make their own Blu Ray device. Either way, I don't think that Sony will be forced to stop making games or game systems. StarFoxfan-FUR_ever
I don't mean to sound like a complete jerk, but I'm one of those Nintendo/(Sega, kind of) fanboys, so basically... This news just made my day! Thankfully, I have a 360...which is so AWESOME!!! I can't stand Sony at all...about time they got what was coming to them. I am absolutely thrilled to hear this news. *fist pumps* All hail Miyamoto and Bill Gates. It sounds more like LG is annoyed because Sony is using their technology without their permission? Correct me if I misunderstood. LG cannot be accused of forming a monopoly simply because Sony did not create their own version of blu-ray to implement in the PS3. If LG had something to say about Sony creating a different version of blu-ray, then they would be guilty of a monopoly. From a business standpoint, who wants to bet Sony will now charge players for online services to make up for the lost profit (given that they do suffer a somewhat significant loss)? Either that, or Sony will be forced to pay LG more to use the technology, thus increasing the price of the PS3?
Sabre
The charging for online play has to do with the master servers that handle matchmaking. Given that most games are Peer to Peer though it's hard to justify any cost more then a few quid per player. It comes down to greed. MS makes a fortune, so they want it. Also, compaired to MS, Wii has a terrible online service. Also you do sound like a complete jerk, or more of an idiot really. I'm not a fan of the PS3, but atm it has more going for it games wise then the wii does. I really want Ratchet and Clank, but is only on PS3. Uncharted, Infamous, Resistence, all great apparently. The wii has been so disappointing It had so much promise but now even Nintendo has stopped putting any effort into it's games. Other then Mario Galaxy, it's hard to think of anything worth playing on that bloody machine that there isn't done better elsewhere.

I own a wii, and the only online game worth anything is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Every other game is just lame online.

Every other game is just lame online. Well, it seems I've offended a few people. At no given point in time did I ever say that Nintendo was doing anything noteworthy in terms of online features, yet my comment is being viewed as such. Or am I sencing a little bit of fanboy-ism coming from someone else? I simply stated that I HATE...I repeat...HATE Sony and left it at that while celebrating like a fool. You both went along and started focusing on those "why nintendo sucks" arguements (like most others). FYI, I did mention I fully support Microsoft as well. I could very easily go into specifics about both Sony and Microsoft in terms of the overabundance of a certain game genre. (Can you guess which one?) It seems that you are upset simply because I expressed my resentment of Sony. I'll admit I did sort of start a bit of a fight, but seeing this begin the same way as all video game console arguements go, I don't want to bother with it. Same old, same old...and they just get boring. Anyone want to discuss possible business scenarios?
CrypticQuery
I believe it was caused by Sony putting a patent infringement lawsuit on LG, and LG doing the same in return. Preliminary rulings have banned import of PS3s into Europe currently, but I don't believe the action is final. Sony does have several consoles on reserve in the country anyway; they would still be able to sell for a couple months. Let's hope that all turns out well And StarFoxFan-FUR_ever, what's up with all the hate against Sony? All companies have had their strong and low points, but you sorta posted some serious flamebait there.

Anyone want to discuss possible business scenarios? 1st off I wasn't offended by your oppinion, it's yours and you're entitled to it. 2nd I actually LOVE nintendo, it's my favorite company of the three. but, with that being said, nintendo could focus more on there online possiblities and game making abilities. I mean, lets face it, they haven't come out with many top rated games for the wii, and the wii has had far less success than the other Nintendo consoles of years past, that's all I'm saying. "User"
Sabre, drop it with the name calling. As far as I can tell he was just stating his opinion (albeit a strong one) about Sony. Regardless of whether his expressed opinion is fact or not I can think of other members who do this quite regularly on this board.
Nova
Tens of thousands of PS3s have already been seized by customs officers last week in the Netherlands. Oh how I would love to be a Custom Officer in Netherlands...
