My friend is on TV-

My friend sent me a message a while ago saying he was going to be on TV, then we lost contact, having regained contact, he said he is going on a show called "OMG! With Peaches Geldof" while wearing his fursuit. When I got home, I looked into what the show was.

It's basicly an exploitation show. The premise is they find people who are part of an outragous sub culture and mock them in a trisha/jerry kyle like interview. He claims it went well, but these shows are bad at best, and at worst it's going to be heavly edited to make him look like a pervert.

To make matters worse, my favourite (and only) TV show is TV burp where Harry Hill takes the mic out of the weeks TV.

He seems to believe that it's going to be an awesome show that sets the record straight on furries. (he says he and they never mentioned sex/yiff once) I think he's being set up.

That is outrageous. Whoever does this show is a complete d@#$wad and needs to be taken off the air. Your friend shouldn't be treated like he's part of the Nazi party. I don't know why people do that to furries.

They are easy targets maybe? The other episodes are about vampires (goths that drink their own blood) and swingers. They also did an episode about facebook couples, but those were actors allegadly.

Because furries get a bad rap because of all the yiff. And it is a lot actually, I estimate around 30% of furry art is yiff. So it's just kind of misfortune.

And it's entertainment for those who like to hate and gossip.

95% is a more believable percentage.

More like 60% but are we really going to argue about it?

I never grasped the meaning of "like to hate".

It doesn't make any fuckin' sense to me. If I hate something, I don't like it, and I don't like hating something because if I think about it I don't feel good. There's a difference between "like to hate" and the actually correct "like to make fun of something I hate because I'm just a random misinformed person who actually did even worst things in his/her life without realizing it".

Hell, I mean, that would be fine if, and only if, all the people on the world had a good knowledge about everything.

He seems to believe that it's going to be an awesome show that sets the record straight on furries. (he says he and they never mentioned sex/yiff once) I think he's being set up.

Yup. Because it's gonna work. Yeah.

It's a good thing to be Italian. It's rare to find someone that knows about furries... and I actually know some kind of people that are gonna enjoy tailsrulz's gallery... a lot.

It's a tribal mentality. There's "us" and "the others". People fondly remember world war 2 because everyone got on, and the reason they all got on was because of a common hate figure. The Nazis. Without that common hate figure, people turn on each other. eg. He's fat, he's black, he's gay, or whatever.

When people like to hate, they tend to hang around in groups.

The other type is something people accuse me of sometimes. The idea is by focusing on the negative, they think other people seem them as deep and worldly wise. They tend to use the term "You call this good X?" alot.

How many accounts did you end up getting banned from the FA forums today btw? You were sending me links on my blackberry showing threads that you or your cousin started that were trolling attempts but ended up failing hard.

4 accounts, could have gotten more banned, but I had enough. And they didn't fail, I lol'd hard and pissed off a lot of furries, which was the whole point.

I seem to recall the UK having pretty strict defamation laws. I don't think they'd go too far.

As far as furries being perverts, there is a significant portion of them that are. I can't put a percentage on it, but it is significant. You will find porn o' plenty at any furcon.

That said, most furries are in it for the escapism, even the more sexual ones. There is a reason why there is so much drama among furries. These people tend to not have high self-esteem to begin with. There is also a lot of denial about said lack of self-esteem. Their character may be self-confident, but their real person is not.

The laws are strict, so strict that there is something called libal tourism, where companies will try and justify getting a case heard in the UK for that reason. However, I think it's more professonal reasons because it doesn't stop the kind of thing this show is about. Hell, there was a famous case where a show edited a show about the queen in such a way to make her seem like she randomly stormed out at the slightest thing.

Games are escapism as well.

I'm sorry but I've seen a LOT of trolling in my days online and those attempts were just too amateurish. The best trollers out there are the one's that can own/piss the shit out of people and be amazingly intelligent in their arguments at the same time. Having some detailed background about what/who you are trolling is a must as well. Making a troll topic right off the bat and acting stupid and dumbing down comments and making other n00bish mistakes like typing in all caps just sticks out like a sore thumb too easily and too quickly. You gotta start a legitimate topic which no one would suspect of trolling and then add a minuscule amount of bait and then build up from there. Some of the best trolling I've ever seen has been done by intelligent people with years of experience in the matter. That being said, I have confidence in your long term outlook. :)

Have you ever been to a furcon by chance?

True indeed. Sometimes that makes me I feel that I'm the only "normal" furry around.

Protip: All definitions involve sex to some extent. Just remember that and you'll be fine.

Double post? How did that happen?

Sorry.

There isn't anything inherently wrong with escapism. Everyone can benefit from it.

But, there is a line between harmless escapism and the kind of escapism that can imply the existence of personality disorders, self-esteem issues, or inability to cope with life. There are people in the community that create a character as a persona and create a world for them, but there are also those who have such a need for that fantasy that they go whole-hog in attempt to become that fantasy. Many people in the furry community go that far.

Just like there are people who play games, and then there are people who play WoW in 72 hour binges, only getting up to take a piss, grab a Pepsi, or throw a Hot Pocket in the microwave.

I most certainly agree with you.

Joking or not, I submit that, as far as I'm concerned, a "Furry" is nothing more than a person who has an interest of some sort in anthropomorphic animal characters. Nothing more, nothing less.

Think of it like this: "Furry" is like Anime in that, while there is porn, it is not what it is about. Saying all furries are sexual about it is like saying all anime fans are obsessed with Hentai.

That's what I think, as well, Blaze. But generally, I would probably never say I was a furry or something, 'cause people would probably take it the wrong way because of the steroetype. :?

Sometimes the artists forget/neglect to set them though.

The definition of "furry" is pretty vague, but I think all of us can agree on this basic criteria.

Think of it like this: "Furry" is like Anime in that, while there is porn, it is not what it is about. Saying all furries are sexual about it is like saying all anime fans are obsessed with Hentai.

Only thing I would add to this is that the extent of sexuality in the fandom, as a percentage lets say, greatly exceeds that of anime. Anime may sometimes get a bad rap because of sex, but the vast majority of popular series/movies etc contain no porn or sex whatsoever (it might be a bit suggestive though). Whereas with the fandom the most popular furry sites are full of some of the most "screwed up sex related stuff imaginable". FA and Fchan immediately come to mind, as do other sites.

That's what I think, as well, Blaze. But generally, I would probably never say I was a furry or something, 'cause people would probably take it the wrong way because of the steroetype. :?

Most of the Laser Quest community knows about myself being a furry and it has no effect on what they think of me - mainly because in person I have a lot of positive/likable traits about me and also I don't flaunt it around with my non-furry friends or on non-furry message boards. :P
