Nova
Now as we know from my poll, about 65%-70% of us here are all from the fandom and to each his own favorite parts of the fandom. ((Including those who arent Open about it yet...You know who you are! User will find you! LOL)) Seeing as there is just so many different possible aspects of being a furry, And anyone could be a mix of any of them... When on the issue of "Coming Out of the Closet" how would this be attempted? Its obviously different than saying you are Gay, Bi, Lesbian because that is easily defined under one or two things... Being a furry is much different because some people are attracted to certain animals, Characters and Art styles and Vise-Versa with Disliking it. What would one do to try to explain your "Being a Furry" to your Family/Friends without them just simply saying "Oh you like Anthropomorphic characters... I see" because it is clearly more than this! Rogue Fox
For me I explained to my parents and non-furry friends the same way I explained to people online. I'm a furry because I take an appreciation of furry art, writing, etc. Really there is nothing more than this. No big mystery here.

Nova
As I said in the Original post, Everyone has different reasons of being a furry, Different likes and dislikes. Some are just fans of the art style, Some are Fur Suiters, Some Roleplay and so on. Im just curious is to how different people have different ways of explaining what they do. Vulvokunvrii
I'm a furry because i love animals (more than people, but people are okay i guess), i enjoy and draw Anthro/Furry art, many have seen it both onlien and real life, and some other things that i keep private (none of it's nasty though, so don't worry). Lol and i do enjoy and watch and enjoy shows and movies that have Anthropomorphic animals within them . That's all i can think up at any rate. LoneWolf
Where I am a furry: Here, GameSpot, on Steam, on any other multiplayer game, anywhere I'm just an anonymous user, DeviantArt. How I explain: Yeah, I'm a furry. Surprise you at all? I just keep it to myself. But I'm definitely not gay, nor am I a total perv. Although, there are only 3 IRL people that know I am, although I spread obvious hints around.
Milkyway64
I usually don't. People in real life often have no idea because I don't talk about it or paint my life and being with the stuff. Even online I don't stress it much unless it comes up. How I explain: Yeah, I'm a furry. Surprise you at all? I just keep it to myself. Lies. Otherwise you wouldn't spam your spray all over. =V
LoneWolf
Lies. Otherwise you wouldn't spam your spray all over. =V Offline. My Steam account is a furry account, and thus I go ahead with furry sprays. Look at my profile on there.

Braux
A fellow /b/ronie... Welcome to SFO Oh god bronies... I really don't see why someone would need to "come out", like OP stated, its not a sexuality, to me its just a hobby. You dont "come out" as a stamp collector, or as a toy airplane builder. If someone asks then tell them, simple as that. Plus, on other forums I go on being a furry isn't frowned upon, its the action of making threads like "BAWW FURSECUTION" and being an attention whore which then paints a bad light on the fandom. That logic can translate into real life. /opinion
Vulvokunvrii
I even admitted to being a Furry on my steam account, one of my friends from school looked on my steam from his account and so he found out. I've even told anonter friend from school that i like to draw Anthros more than people (he and i like to draw, he draws Anime and Manga stuff), so the fact that i am Furry is out there in differnet forms, it's just a matter of everyone finding out for themselves. I have no shame. (if there is any to be had)

Your name is Derpy Hooves but your avatar is not a picture of Derpy. I <3 Derpy. Welcome to SF-O. Make a topic in the Welcome Wagon so that you don't interrupt topics with people welcoming you, when you get the time, please. On the topic at hand, "coming out" has never been much of an issue for me. I'm not on the extreme spectrum of the fandom anyways, so it usually doesn't matter. I tend to get uncomfortable and close my sketchbook when people are trying to watch what I'm drawing anyways, whether it's furry or not.
Milkyway64
A fellow /b/ronie... Welcome to SFO What makes you say he's from /b/, the MLP avatar? Protip: MLP is a genuinely good cartoon and not just a 4chan meme, so that's not accurate. :P

MLP is tolerable, not so sanguinly sweet that you feel that you will go into a diabetic shock from ewatching it.
Matrilwood
Its obviously different than saying you are Gay, Bi, Lesbian because that is easily defined under one or two things... Being a furry is much different because some people are attracted to certain animals, Characters and Art styles and Vise-Versa with Disliking it. And some furrys aren't exclusively atracted to furrys at all. The main reason I'm a furry is because I hate humans.
