DZComposer
Yesterday, Mozilla released Firefox 4. In their infinite wisdom, they decided to use DirectWrite for text rendering. DirectWrite has a known bug for a long time that makes text bold and blurry with certain video cards, especially white-on-black. This, sadly, affects SFO. Apparently nVida cards are the worst, but it looks pretty damn bad on my ATI Radeon card. Workaround: Preferences/Options > advanced > uncheck "Use Hardware Acceleration Where Available" Stupid that they did this. This is going to drive people away from Firefox. Average users won't figure out how to fix it and go back to IE, while those of us who know how to fix it have to disable the big feature touted in this release. I also don't like a lot of the UI changes they made. I fucking HATE IE. Stop making Firefox look like IE, dammit. If it weren't for the Firefox extensions I use, I'd fucking switch to Google Chrome right now.
Wes
I also don't like a lot of the UI changes they made. I fucking HATE IE. Stop making Firefox look like IE, dammit. Mozilla needs to completely rewrite Firefox's UI, but they refuse to do so I'd fucking switch to Google Chrome right now.
Nova
...There is absolutely nothing wrong with FF4 on my computer... Using a Radeon 5670. No problems of blurry text at all? Also I love the Aero theme for it out of the box. Is nice. ^.^

DZComposer
Would you rather I use IE? Firefox is starting to suck now because every major version, they get closer and closer to being IE Lite. I don't want IE Lite. I think Firefox hit it's peak at 3.0. Since 3.5, it has started going downhill. Especially with 4. They did shit like arbitrarily re-arranging the order of menu items screwing with the way my muscle-memory has been for tabbed-browsing since the version 2.0 track. When I have to download extensions and disable features to maintain usability, there is a problem. Change can be good, but not stupid change. Opera is meh, and hell will freeze before I use IE or Safari. Maybe it is time for someone to fork Firefox.
Shinigami
Huh..I'm using FF4 but it didn't affect me before the changes. guess I just got lucky or something.

Owner/Technical Admin Sideways Posted March 24, 2011 Owner/Technical Admin Share Posted March 24, 2011 So I bit the bullet and upgraded to FF4. I had to rearrange some icons and change the persona, but now it's more like 3.6 was graphically wise.
FoxMcCloud
Ill send a message of to the Firefox 4 Dev team, I worked with them on some community stuff a bit back, and they might be interested in hearing about this bug. Also I seem to have no problems about this bug, and Firefox 4 has been running smooth for me.
DZComposer
People have been bitching about this bug since early beta, dude.
FoxMcCloud
Yeah they told me about it when I sent them the information on it, they said they are working on it, and hope to have it resolved soon
DZComposer
Which validates my point. They knew about this bug, but shipped anyway.

DZComposer
No, I'm complaining about taking something out of beta when it has a huge known bug. OSS or Proprietary doesn't matter, it's annoying either way.

FoxMcCloud
Understandable, it was a small bug. Most users that beta tested it provided positive feedback, and in my testing, I had no problems, as did others. I mean look at apple, they shipped the Iphone with the huge problem it had (dropping the calls), they wanted to release it, and it will be fixed in later releases to make it better. They cannot please everyone, bugs are always bound to be done on anything that is released, nothing is really ever bug free, glitches always occur. Nova
someone is touchy about such a trivial matter. I don't understand how he is so mad over a simple text rendering issue that is easily solved by turning on Accelerated Graphics... Firefox is a free web browser that is open source. If you don't like it. Don't use it? its free.

DZComposer
The problem is I don't feel there is a worthwhile alternative. IE sucks terribly. Chrome lacks features I use. Opera looks weird, and lacks features I use. Safari is an Apple product. Fuck Steve Jobs. I can still make Firefox bend to my will. It just takes longer to do that with 4 than it did with 3.5. Add the bug, and I have plenty to bitch about. If there is no worthwhile alternative, the only option is to bitch about it. :P
