Dublinthefox
I know its been a while since it was released and I know I'm not really a fan of Microsoft, but for the past week I've been having thoughts of maybe getting an Xbox 360. And not the big 1st version, the slim one. I know that some people would say that the PS3 is better, but as far as I know, sooner or later theres gonna be PS4 or something like that. I'm not sure If there's gonna be another version of the Xbox due to how popular the 360 is currently right know but a few friends of mine have a hunch that theres not going to be a next console for a very long time. Also there are some games I wanna play thats also for the PC, but since my laptop got f***ed a while back and can't play games, why not try the Xbox versions? Also it kind of embarrassing if your friends ask to hang out and play games and all you have is a PS2, a Wii and a SNES and they are into current hardcore stuff like Halo Team Fortress 2. One of the problems I have about the system is the monthly fee. I know that the PS3 has no fee, but most of my friends have a 360 and want me to play online with them since I have rarely see them since collage started. So yeah, I'm really having a hard time deciding if I should or not get one. I know I won't do it immediately. I'll just wait until after this years E3 to decide since thats the time of year when they announce new hardware. Any suggestions?

CrypticQuery
If most of your friends have it, and you can afford the annual membership to play online, then I'd say why not. Be wary of potential hardware problems though; you just can't trust Micro$oft fully after what happened with the original 360s. Personally though, the PS3 is the better console; the online play is absolutely free, it's a better media player, larger games come on one blu-ray, the track record, while not perfect, is much better than the 360s, and there is an INCREDIBLE library of exclusives ranging from Sly Cooper/Ratchet and Clank to Killzone/Resistance. As an added bonus, there are many SF-O users that own a PS3 too (including myself ) And I don't see a PS4 or Xbox 720 coming out anytime soon; the hardware is still churning out games quite well, and it wouldn't make sense to switch to newer consoles yet. There will be another Xbox as M$ can't resist the money, and the 360 has sold well throughout its lifetime; same for the PS3.

Icy
The PS3 is 10x better than the 360. But if you want to play with your friends who have 360s, then I still say stick with the PS3. J/k, if you want to play with friends, get it! Microsoft is money hungry (Even though they're loads richer than Sony) and they charge for online play. I always wonder why Microsoft charges and Sony doesn't. Microsoft has way more money than Sony and yet they charge… The PS3 has a lot more exclusive series (Uncharted, Jak, Metal Gear Solid, Ratchet & Clank, etc) Microsoft has a few I know of… (Gears of War, Halo) Although, XBLA has a lot more stuff than PSN. PSN has movies and stuff, too, but I'm not sure if XBLA does that… Overall they're the same, but the PS3 is way more reliable, has more exclusive games, (FUN exclusive games) and it can play PS1 games. (And PS2 if you get an old model, but they're less reliable) PS3 also has Playstation Home, (where you lounge around and meet random people while doing things…) and I don't think Xbox does. So stick with the Xbox if you want. ^^ Also, the Xbox is a lot cheaper, so that right there probably decides it. (Except for the stupid online charges)
ThePointingMan
I don't think it reaaally matter what you get cause they make so many of the games for all the systems. Also cause a solid computer is better then any of em, and I'd be really surprised if ps3 had more exclusive games then a PC.

CrypticQuery
I'll just wait till after E3 just to make sure. The only thing I wish the PS3 had was PS2 backwards capability! I'm pretty sure that Sony will be focusing on the NGP this e3, but it does make sense to wait As for no PS2 backwards-compatibility, it is a shame, but it's done as a cost-effective measure. And it's always good to still keep the PS2 around If you're looking at pricing though, the PS3 will work out to be cheaper as there are no service fees, all you have to pay for is the games :D
GameMasterGuy
Definitely get it. I use the 360 more for chatting than gaming now, anyways.
Fox-Shot
I suggest 360. I have one, all my friends who have PS3s say it's better because you don't need to pay for online, but they never talk about exclusives, because they only play multiplatform games. Unless you're really grabbed by some of the exclusives, go get PS3, but if you're liking multiplatform and Xbox exclusives more, go with it, the 50 dollars for online for a year isn't that big, and honestly, pay it, and you're covered for a YEAR. Also, even though online is free on PS3, a lot of other things need a "Premium" account, like sales for games and stuff.
CrypticQuery
Also, even though online is free on PS3, a lot of other things need a "Premium" account, like sales for games and stuff. I'm not entirely sure what you're referring to, there is no premium service needed on PS3 for the download of games, playing online, etc. You can upgrade to PlayStation Plus (paid service) which gives you access to BETAs and some free/discounted games, but that's about it. XBL has a great userbase and offers more then what PS3 does, IMO. 2. PS3 games take a while to load because most have to install to your HDD.. 3. 360 also has its own exclusives - Gears of War and Halo being two of them.. Vy'drach
If you do get one (and it's an alright system, but the PS3 just beats it in everything except a party chat feature), keep in mind where you have it sitting. If it gets bumped it can destroy your CDs, if it's in too small of an area it can overheat (the main cause of 360 deaths, last I heard), and if you can put it in a larger/ more ventilated room, do so, as my computer, my PS3, and another of my systems running at the same time don't produce the same amount of heat as the 360 does by itself. Also, look up more durable controllers for it as the official Microsoft ones are horrible. The joysticks wear out pretty fast on em; I have a few friends that are on their fifth or so controller, and mine will cause my guy to look straight up and spin to the left if I just set it on the table/floor/what have you. El Zorro de la Estrella
We already talked about this on FB, but I figured I'd throw in my 2 cents here too... Anywho, I say go for it, ESPECIALLY if all of your friends have it. All of my friends have 360, and that was a deciding factor for me too. ALSO: since you are a PC-first gamer, 360 will better meet your gaming needs. It is more similar to PC then PS3, and certain 360 games can be played online vs PC players! Personally, not a fan of PS3. 360 just has it beat all around. Also: I dun get how peeps can call Microsoft cash-hungry when PS3 is SO much more expensive. 600 BUCKS at launch. In addendum, XBL Gold is only 50 bucks a year. So, like, 4 Bucks per month. Now, to discuss points brought up in chere... Controllers Fall Apart: In my experience, not even remotely true. I play hardcore and have the same controller that came with my 'Box. And it ain't like I've been easy on it either! Dropping it, friends/Fam accidentally stepping on it, tossing it to buddies who miss the catch and it nails the floor, etc. Yeah, I'm pretty rough on controllers. PS3's have bad load times: Every game needs to install to the HD to be played, and it takes FOREVER. Now times that by like 3 for MGS 4. So much waiting. That was one long night, I tell ya hwhat! What can XBL do besides gaming: Netflix, ESPN, FaceBook, LastFM, chat, etc. Backwards compatibilty: Xbox can haz it! Ya just need to install a small patch for each game, which takes about 60 sconds. PS Home: From what I've heard, it's junk. Hyped up as awesome but then Sony just totally dropped it after it's debut. But, that's just what I read in gaming mags. Anywho, this is really all just IMO and from my own experiences/research
CrypticQuery
Anywho, I say go for it, ESPECIALLY if all of your friends have it. Good reasoning, if you want to play with your friends, then a 360 would be a good idea, but if the pay-to-play for online sounds crazy, read on! XD ALSO: since you are a PC-first gamer, 360 will better meet your gaming needs. It is more similar to PC then PS3, and certain 360 games can be played online vs PC players! I don't see how a 360 is more similar to a PC than a PS3 as consoles are DRASTICALLY different than PCs in most aspects. Personally, not a fan of PS3. 360 just has it beat all around. I don't see how XD Also: I dun get how peeps can call Microsoft cash-hungry when PS3 is SO much more expensive. 600 BUCKS at launch. M$ makes you pay for online, they have made boatloads on repairing consoles, etc. PS3 may have been $600 at launch, but when you include all of the items you had to buy for the original 360 (wireless adapter, hard drives, etc) it came up to be just about the same price. In addendum, XBL Gold is only 50 bucks a year. So, like, 4 Bucks per month. Still, that's money that could be spent on games Now, to discuss points brought up in chere... Can't say I disagree; controllers for both consoles are built well, but both tend to wear out over time. Oh, and PS3 controllers come with a rechargeable battery whereas the 360s do not. PS3's have bad load times: Every game needs to install to the HD to be played, and it takes FOREVER. Now times that by like 3 for MGS 4. So much waiting. That was one long night, I tell ya hwhat! Can't deny it; the PS3 has to install games first, and although it takes some time, if you have patience you won't be too annoyed. What can XBL do besides gaming: Netflix, ESPN, FaceBook, LastFM, chat, etc. PS3 can also surf Netflix, watch movies, go on FaceBook, chat, and BROWSE THE INTERNET! Backwards compatibilty: Xbox can haz it! Ya just need to install a small patch for each game, which takes about 60 seconds. You need the hard drive, which you'll have to buy separate if purchasing an Arcade model. And he already owns a PS2 PS Home: From what I've heard, it's junk. Hyped up as awesome but then Sony just totally dropped it after it's debut. But, that's just what I read in gaming mags. From what I've PLAYED, it's rather decent. Nothing to write home about, but cool nonetheless Anywho, this is really all just IMO and from my own experiences/research PS3 still wins in my book, it can double as a Blu-Ray player, has an online browser, free online, and has a much better reliability record . El Zorro de la Estrella
Anyways, just a couple of points to talk with ya Crazy: A. Xbox 360 Arcade doesn't exist anymore. B. All Xbox 360's have HDD's now C. I feel that you are drastically overstating the fact that XBL costs money. It is a very small cost, and you definitley get what you pay for: Much faster downloads and cross-game chat. D. 360 is more similar than PS3 because it is made by a company whose focus in on PCs. 360's work with PC's in a number of ways. You can create a whole network in your house with PC's and a 360. Like, transferring movies and stuff between them. E. 360 also has Kinect and XBLA, and exclusives like Fable, Mass Effect, and Left 4 Dead (Some are on PC too, but this is 360 v PS3) F. Multiplatform games, for the most part, look and run better on 360 G. This is, in the end, just a matter of opinion. The systems are nearly IDENTICAL. Outside of exclusives they have mirror libraries. And the exclusives are nowhere near as powerful in console selection as they were in the old days: ie. Xbox vs PS2, PS2 had a lot of power in that they had GTA and the premier WWE series, among other games. Now many of those former exclusives are multiplatform. The only console that really makes you think about console selection with exclusives is Nintendo consoles for Mario, Zelda, SF, etc. Really, I'm not here to cause fights or anything. Just wanna talk games! :friends:
CrypticQuery
XD, that's going into my pictures now A. Xbox 360 Arcade doesn't exist anymore. B. It is a very small cost, and you definitley get what you pay for: Much faster downloads and cross-game chat. Eh, I still feel that paying for online, no matter the cost, is insane, but that's just me. Although a small cost, it will add up over the years D. 360 is more similar than PS3 because it is made by a company whose focus in on PCs. 360's work with PC's in a number of ways. You can create a whole network in your house with PC's and a 360. Like, transferring movies and stuff between them. You can always media stream files from your PC onto your PS3 too! E. 360 also has Kinect and XBLA, and exclusives like Fable, Mass Effect, and Left 4 Dead (Some are on PC too, but this is 360 v PS3) PS3 does have a larger variety of exclusive games though, and although Kinect is there, no notable games besides Dance Central have come out for it. F. Multiplatform games, for the most part, look and run better on 360 The tide is beginning to shift, IMO there is almost no noticeable difference for the majority of the GOOD games out there G. This is, in the end, just a matter of opinion. The systems are nearly IDENTICAL. Outside of exclusives they have mirror libraries. And the exclusives are nowhere near as powerful in console selection as they were in the old days: ie. Vy'drach
ALSO: since you are a PC-first gamer, 360 will better meet your gaming needs. It is more similar to PC then PS3, and certain 360 games can be played online vs PC players! I strongly disagree, what with the more user-friendly UI of the PS3, the custom backgrounds, internet browsing, including youtube and google and such. Along with the customizable icons for the PS3 and the larger storage space. Also you can actually put PC hard drives into a PS3. Personally, not a fan of PS3. 360 just has it beat all around. I disagree here, as all Xbox has over the PS3 is HALO, which is negligible, and the party system. The PS3 has the Xbox beat left, right, and center in all other categories, imo. Also: I dun get how peeps can call Microsoft cash-hungry when PS3 is SO much more expensive. 600 BUCKS at launch. In addendum, XBL Gold is only 50 bucks a year. So, like, 4 Bucks per month. But take into account the fact the 250 gigabyte PS3 is only $350 now, and has built in wireless, and already comes with a rechargeable wireless controller. Only thing missing is the headset, which any bluetooth headset is useable. The $100 Xbox wireless adapter (or at least it was $100 when I had to get one), the Xbox Live, replacement batteries (or the charge 'n' play kit), and replacement controllers if you don't want to fight yours later, also, larger hard drives. Mine is 10 gigs and it needs more space, but like hell I'm shelling out money for a system I haven't used for anything more than to talk to my friends while playing on PS in over 200 days. If you're talking about what I said, I didn't say they fall apart from misuse and such, said the joysticks wear out, which they do. My friends' controllers still work, but they have to fight them in games because the sticks are worn out and they want to go a certain direction on their own. To keep my aim steady I have to put pressure to the right on the right stick, and if I accidentally put too much, I jerk my aim off target, causing me to miss. My friend CrAzY1WhItE1BoY's controller will randomly decide it doesn't want to run forward, which has gotten him killed more than a few times. Playstation's sticks don't have the slightest bit of wear on them. I set my controller down, and my character doesn't move or look in random directions, none of my friend's controllers do. PS3's have bad load times: Every game needs to install to the HD to be played, and it takes FOREVER. Now times that by like 3 for MGS 4. So much waiting. That was one long night, I tell ya hwhat! Only game I've seen to do that was MGS4, if that's your only experience. It depends on the game itself. I've played some games on both systems, Bayonetta for example (got all but two achievements on Xbox, and I have platinum on Playstation), and the load times were one second or so longer on PS3, until I installed it where it was faster than Xbox imo. What can XBL do besides gaming: Netflix, ESPN, FaceBook, LastFM, chat, etc. Playstation can do Netflix and facebook I know, not sure about ESPN, but for that and LastFM and all, youtube and just general internet browsing. LastFM is rather bad anyway, imo, because I search for Nightwish, it finds one song, I save it, hit next, and it brings up bands similar to Nightwish. Backwards compatibilty: Xbox can haz it! Ya just need to install a small patch for each game, which takes about 60 sconds. Not all games register on the 360 (some of my favourite games don't, like Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance), and of course there's the lack of being able to read the memory card, which gays out alot of games too. I just hook up my original Xbox rather than put them in the 360. The games run better on the original anyway. PS Home: From what I've heard, it's junk. Hyped up as awesome but then Sony just totally dropped it after it's debut. But, that's just what I read in gaming mags. PS Home is just Second Life, with some perks. I have a golden AK-47 in SOCOM: Confrontation because I went to the SOCOM headquarters in Home, found all the parts of the AK, practiced assembling/disassembling the AK until I had the movements memorized, then took the parts to a workbench and assembled the weapon in under 12 seconds, which is damned hard (believe my time was around 10.6 or so), and I also have a "shirt" that lets me carry around an AK in the PS mall and such, though I don't take off my Predator armour to wear it. I also have a log cabin on top of a waterfall with an awesome view where I can go fishing, and it's lined with guns from all over the place. Though Home is just something you go in for a few seconds, or if you want to chat on PS with your friends (can also just do a chatroom). C. I feel that you are drastically overstating the fact that XBL costs money. It is a very small cost, and you definitley get what you pay for: Much faster downloads and cross-game chat. Actually, me and my friends have the exact opposite experience. The PS3 downloads MUCH faster than the Xbox, as my friends and I have downloaded the same thing on both systems and the Xbox took at least 10 or so minutes to download. D. 360 is more similar than PS3 because it is made by a company whose focus in on PCs. 360's work with PC's in a number of ways. You can create a whole network in your house with PC's and a 360. Like, transferring movies and stuff between them. Every networking thing I can do with Xbox I can do with PS3, pretty much. Only thing I've been tempted to do is watch movies/shows that are on my PC on PS3, which I can do via the torrent I have, which connects to your Wii/PS3/Xbox E. 360 also has Kinect and XBLA, and exclusives like Fable, Mass Effect, and Left 4 Dead (Some are on PC too, but this is 360 v PS3) Mass Effect 2 is on PS3 as well, and Valve is working with Sony too now, because last I heard they were a little miffed at Microsoft. F. Multiplatform games, for the most part, look and run better on 360 You are the only person I've seen to actually say that. Every other person I know says the exact opposite, as I've had friends play games on both systems, and I have as well, and we'll take the PS3 version any day of the week and twice on Sunday, especially multiplayer games as they lag horribly on the Xbox compared to the PS3, especially EA games like Battlefield and Medal of Honour, though last I heard CoD: Black Ops was less laggy on PS3 than Xbox. The only console that really makes you think about console selection with exclusives is Nintendo consoles for Mario, Zelda, SF, etc. Sony has SOCOM, Warhawk, Sly Cooper, Ico/Shadow of the Colossus (which is being remastered for PS3), L-A-I-R, and a few others.
