King of the Shrooms
Agreed. A "fandom brony" ain't a real brony. yeah there just dead weight to make us REAL bronies agitated.
Xortberg
I wouldn't go that far, you two. As far as I'm concerned, a brony is a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Denying the fandom as part of the appeal is foolish. We even discussed this in the podcast we did over the shit. Now, I'd not go so far as to say I don't care about the episodes - I still regularly rewatch most of them - but the big appeal still definitely lies in the fandom and the excitement over season two, which quite possibly wouldn't have happened without the fandom. Matrilwood's as much a brony as anyone else who likes the show. yeah there just dead weight to make us REAL bronies agitated. And who decides what a "real" brony is? Isn't the whole ideal behind the fandom to love and tolerate? So he's not the kind of guy who rewatches stuff. That doesn't mean he's less of a fan. Matrilwood
I just feel that the Fandom gets into things that the mane series can't get into. Like stories about dyslexic Ditzy Doo (The one who speaks funny and always gets picked on by other ponies). When ever I find stuff on her I have to read it because I can relate. Sure the mane series is good, but I can't really enjoy it properly because I can't relate to the whole friendship thing for the simple fact that I don't really have any friends. ^ I always get scared and confused when Xort agrees with me. Xortberg
^ I always get scared and confused when Xort agrees with me. No need. Just because we don't get along doesn't mean I'm going to go out of my way to be an asshole or anything.
Matrilwood
Also, if the Mane Series and the Fandom wasn't bonded so strongly then how do you explain < getting a mane role in Season 2?
Deploy
I'm pretty sure Derpy hasn't gotten a MAIN role in the series, but maybe a more important one to some degree.
Xortberg
She's not getting a main role, I thought. I seem to recall hearing she was still going to have the whole "Where's Waldo" thing going, the only difference being these were planned ahead of time instead of improvised. Either way, it still shows that the creators are paying attention to the bronies.
Deploy
I love how much the makers of the show pay attention to the fans. It's great to see that.
Matrilwood
I say mane character when-ever I refer to MLP because it's an excuse to use bad spelling. @Xort That's a relief, I was so worried about it because she has so many different personalities that enforcing 1 would ruin her for the majority of fans who were disappointed. Matrilwood
I wonder if FiM will ever be like the Simpsons, where there are a whole heap of background characters but each and every one of them is a fully developed character.
Milkyway64
@Xort: Yes. Yes we discussed that. And there's the whole "no true Scottsman" rule, but there is a boundary. It's not Matrilwood's desire to rewatch episodes that makes me feel like he's missing the point, it's his selfish, apathetic view of the fandom that is out to please him and only him (not caring if the episodes are down despite them being the cornerstone of his fandom, not caring about the growth of "the herd" or other such things.) in the same way that furries kill starfox (not caring about anything except, well, what they care about and nothing beyond, much less the source material. Sure. He's entitled to this. In the same way I like green skittles best, maybe Matrilwood here only is really in it to excercise and ship his alternate character interpretations. However, whereas I'll eat the whole skittle bag and enjoy what I like as well as what I like a bit less, his words are pretty much throwing the rest of the back back at someone's face. >feels really pretentious with all the analogies
Vy'drach
Enjoying the fandom is fine, some would say better than the show itself. But gotta keep the source material active in your mind, gotta remember the roots, for without the show, the fandom would not exist. Speaking of, I gotta watch me some good, wholesome Pinkie Pie, because this Pinkamena thread on Ponychan, and the "Ask Pinkamena" tumblr is starting to warp my mind (yes, I am addicted to the tumblr, apart from the NSFW one, it's my kind of art. Horrifying, and adorable, at the same time).

He's merely apathetic, and he even acknowledges that losing the Youtube episodes is a dumb move on Hasbro's part. To go along with your Skittles analogy, he's acknowledging the rest of the bag just fine, taking what he likes from it, and leaving the rest for whoever wants it enough to go get it. Milkyway64
And you somehow get the right to decide where this supposed boundary is drawn? Not me per-se, but the common train of things. Fandom of franchise + apathy of franchise = what are you a fan of, again? Vydrach sorta said it in a way I like better. Fair enough, but it does come across as dick hole-ish and counter productive to his own history of the show + the message. I know that's a pretty big assumption, but think; if he got into it through the fandom and all the alternate character interpretations and memes, I again ask "=what are you a fan of, again?" He's not apathetic to the franchise. Where did you get that idea? Even if the videos are removed, they still air on The Hub, will still be available online somewhere, and Season 2 is still coming out. And as I said, he even acknowledged that removing the videos is a bad move, so it's not like he's just saying "Fuck it all." It's more like "It's a shame, but it doesn't affect me and my personal tastes." He just said that he was scared of 19 of the 20 sub-characters of one mare would be destroyed. He maybe didn't say "fuck it all" but he is undeniably much more into the fanon than anything else. Which can be pretty frickin' stupid (Pinkamena, etc) What does this mean? It means he's said that he likes internet-ponies, not FIM. He's a fan of the show and its associated fandom. I don't know how to make this any simpler. He's a fan of the show's fandom by his own word with only a passing "It's okay but I can't relate" to the show. Nothing particularly wrong with that except for maybe it puts a shadow of doubt on his validity of being called a brony. I don't know how to make that any simpler. He just said that he was scared of 19 of the 20 sub-characters of one mare would be destroyed. The Derpy Hooves situation is one that Hasbro needs to handle carefully. Admitting her to the canon is great, but since she hasn't had a proper introduction fans have created personalities for her, and to choose one of those personalities over another could piss some people off. It's a perfectly valid concern. He maybe didn't say "fuck it all" but he is undeniably much more into the fanon than anything else. Which can be pretty frickin' stupid (Pinkamena, etc) What does this mean? It means he's said that he likes internet-ponies, not FIM. It's a bit difficult not to be more into the fanon at this point. It's been several months since a new episode, and until season two there's little but fanon, and for every stupid fanon bit there's multiple amazing fan creations. FiM doesn't have a big overarching twist-filled plot for us to make epileptic trees out of, so the fanon is all there is to go on. And said Internet ponies nearly always stay in the spirit of FiM, so the difference between fanon and canon is very small. Hasbro has already made the word brony canon, as well as DJ Pon3 and Derpy, so the Internet ponies and FiM are pretty intertwined. He's a fan of the show's fandom by his own word with only a passing "It's okay but I can't relate" to the show. Nothing particularly wrong with that except for maybe it puts a shadow of doubt on his validity of being called a brony. I don't know how to make that any simpler. One doesn't have to completely embrace every minute aspect of the show to be a brony, or even be able to relate, really. If one enjoys the show, and/or associated fandom, they are a brony. You have no argument here, because you're trying to use nonexistent qualifications to prove he's not a brony when the entire idea behind the fandom is to love and tolerate others, even if they share differing viewpoints. Matrilwood
Really I'm only a brony by association, sort of like those people who wear video-game t-shirts and call themselves geeks even though they don't qualify. Ok, I love the Fandom, but I'm not crazy for the show. Also I don't just ship ponies, even if the only stuff I've published so far has been. It's only because it's a million times easier to write. For the whole Derpy thing, she kind of has to stay non cannon because she represents people like me, and if they made her fully cannon, it would ruin it. Sort of like how DarthVader represented black-gays, and then they showed his face. (That Darth Vader thing I heard by word of mouth from one of my friends who tends to be a bit random so I'd seriously question my source's validity)

Matrilwood
When I found out MLP had singing I felt a little tedious about it (And the pony part didn't phase me) I usually hate singing in shows. But the MLP songs are some of my favourite vocals. Cupcakes is my favourite, even if it's pretty short.
