I love the Pony fandom. It's so bizzare and illogical and I can never guess wtf any of them are thinking because it defies basic explanation.

Pinkamena doesn't have to be her psycho-mode. Just Pinkie with her hair down. Though due to "Cupcakes" most people identify it as psycho-mode.

Then there's also the happy and cheerful Pinkamena that didn't get all poofy simply because the Sonic Rainboom never happened (Alternate universe), and thus she is still a rock farmer, and her cutie mark is rocks.

Even so, get this. Pinkamena is just Pinkie's real name.

It still bugs me, because it's a lot like, say, Krystal fans identifying her assault and adventures appearances as two completely separate people/personas. It makes no sense to me beyond just the simple referencing of a shock fic.

Well "Cupcakes" was written before Pinkamena, so it's using poofy-haired Pinkie, and it's just a name for an alternate style of the character. Like Twilight Flopple is for Twilight with the floppy horn, Hairity is for Rarity with all that hair and what not.

Just Pinkamena happens outside of "Bridle Gossip" and is more prominent in fanart. And is associated with "Cupcakes" due to her severe lapse in sanity in "Party of One," but it's simple. People say Pinkie Pie when talking about poofy-haired Pinkie, and Pinkamena when talking about straight-haired Pinkie.

Ah! You're right about all that. I had forgotten what came before what. I also remember that the Krystal example I listed HAS happened in Kursed.

In that case, I'll shorten my bitching down to how I dislike alternate character interpretations finding their way into slightly altered appearances of characters.

Well like I said, it's not even so much alternate character interpretations so much as it is being able to describe character appearance. Not every Pinkie Pie will be happy and cheery, example A:

And not every Pinkamena will be mentally unbalanced with a desire to bake ponies into treats, examples B and C.

Though I know what you mean, but to be honest, "Party of One" with "Cupcakes" makes it far too easy to picture this:
