My last post

I'm curious, has anyone been reading the MLP comic books yet?

I'm actually hoping to find the Changeling comic.

That's the first four issues. Though it's only at issue #3 right now.

I plan on buying all three from the comic shop tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow. Twilicorn has had me iffy for awhile and who knows I might give up my brony badge. I j-...I just want you guys to know that no matter what happens *sniff* after all we've been through together...

That was an awesome episode! Liquid pride was leaked! TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM CRYING!

Not sure how feel.

Twilight becoming an alicorn/princess isn't necessarily show changing, but the entire thing kinda seemed rushed in this episode. Needed to be more buildup than what we've had towards it. Granted episodes hinted at it, but it still seemed kinda thrust upon in the episode. Should of been at least a two part episode for that.

That being said, the songs were awesome, and I welcome the new Apple Farmer Pinkamena. We just need to see what season 4 has in store.

Also, Vinyl Scratch.

That went surprisingly well... CADANCE IS SO JELLY RIGHT NOW PRINCESS TWILIGHT GETS TO STAY IN CANTERLOT. (not married off).

That was an awesome episode. They really pulled out their best songs for this one.

I agree with most everyone I've seen on my friends list talking about it in that it probably would have worked much better as two parts, but overall I fucking loved it. Granted, I'm not necessarily without my own beefs, but I'm just too damn content with how well they pulled it off to care too much about them, plus with all the fucking Twilicorn haters around I just feel the need to ignore my own problems with the episode out of spite.

And oh my god when Rarity is trying to fix the weather during the big cutie-mark-fixing montage and she's about to cry oh god why I started crying oh my god and when Applejack started boarding up the boutique ;_;

That wasn't liquid pride. That was tears.

So yeah. Hella excited for season 4 now.

For me, it was like...they rushed it in the sense that we were immediately thrown into a situation we knew nothing about (yeah, they explained it in that brief flashback, but still).  But the songs were pretty great, in my opinion, and they helped tie everything together.  The appearances of our beloved background ponies certainly was awesome, annnnd overall, yeah, I liked the episode.

Oh, though I do wonder why Gummy was in Fluttershy's/Rainbow Dash's cottage.  lol I guess Pinkie was busy working the orchard.

(I'm not sure what could be considered a spoiler to most haha)

Yeah, and that excites me, but my beef with the two-parter deal is that the episode we got needed more parts. Too much happened too quickly. Not a huge complaint, because I still loved it all, but yeah.

So it's more what happened in the episode was too condensed and instead should have been spread out over multiple parts, not so much we need more parts tacked on.

But...that is a little reassuring.  lol Again, I enjoyed the episode!  But I feel I can still maintain that parts were rushed.

I'm sorry that finale was really bad, I don't even mind the whole twilicorn thing or whatever but

The problem and solution are discovered within ten seconds of each other, so there's no conflict at all, and the rest of the episode is just a 15 minute musical montage that ends in Twilight gaining ultimate power for solving a rhyme

um

was expecting a little bit more here guys

I mean I know there are two more episodes in the arc but??? you kind of need to have some kind of plot or structure per episode too...

That was my thought after watching the episode. It looked like an average girl cartoon episode, with like you said "The problem and solution are discovered within ten seconds of each other, so there's no conflict at all", something MLP:FIM  initially tried to avoid!

The whole musical thing irritated me too. After the second song, I thought "They will develop the story after these instead of putting MORE songs!" But they chose the latter option.

I can understand that Twilight Sparkle would have become an alicorn ultimately, but it was really rushed here. Resolving a magic rhyme was the key?! C'mon! That's cheap! Also, if you think it is about the elements of harmony being messed up, then I think Season 2 Ep1 and 2 would have been better candidates, with Twilight trying to save her friends from Discord's corruption.

Also, just because she's an alicorn, Twilight becomes a princess?... Technically she was already one since Season 2 finale...

So yeah, I'm fairly disappointed by this finale. They better get it right for Season 4. Drop the lessons, solidify the fundaments of your universe and try not to shoehorn your products' advertising.

And where is that episode where Fluttershy turns into a freaking dragon?!

I'm rather used to them not developing story or key characters during finales or premieres.  Like, as we all know, Sombra had no development, and he played a pretty key role.  I still enjoyed the two-parter.

Nightmare Moon was defeated in a deus ex machina fashion, but hey, I continued on with the series even though that was really the first taste I got of MLP.

Chrysalis was awesome.  She just had to go too soon.

Even with Discord I would have liked the ponies to have struggled a little more in an actual confrontation than struggle by themselves, confront Discord, and blow him away then and there.

And I guess songs are just up to personal preference.

So I'm not trying to say that the finale wasn't rushed or that it didn't throw us into everything without development--I said that much in my first post about it here--but I still think it can be well-enjoyed.

At least the episodes you mentioned actually have a villain, or at least some kind of antagonistic force.

And Alain, yeah, the music. The thing about the music in MLP...they're trying to go for the Disney music sequences I guess, which is great, except they miss the mark on what Disney music sequences are meant to do. They're really just meant to be expressions of character beats, and can fall into a few basic functions, like "I Want..." songs, which are present in Disney films in songs like Out There, I Just Can't Wait to be King, Almost There, Belle, etc. Though MLP's had some songs that do this correctly, absolutely none of the ones in the finale did. They honestly just seemed like time-wasters to throw overtop of all the montages that existed where the plot was supposed to be. You can get away with this in some places, like the montage in the "bully" episode (though all the reused animation was offputting), but not in a season opener or finale.

It just felt so hollow, like a recap of the series rather than anything, y'know, interesting. What did we learn with it? "Twilight knows stuff about her friends"? Yeah okay. I'm also feeling a little iffy about Celestia saying Twilight no longer has to write to her. Like there goes the premise of the show. "Congrats, you've learned all you need to learn about friendship!" hahaha uh oh

I have to agree with pretty much everything Dras is saying here. I enjoyed the episode but it was lacking in many departments. And I don't think Twilight has earned her Princesshood any more than the others have. In fact, I'd say some have had more progress than her in terms of developing into something that represents friendship.

Welp, I'll say again that I'm not disagreeing, per se, with anyone here.  I just don't think it calls for a "dislike."

Episode = Decent

Needed a shitload of work.

One thing I did like. Twilight went with Celestia into the Matrix and showed her past and made her a princess. That scene was decked out. It was just really cool.

Question/Bad thing. When someone puts a friend/student to power, next is revolution. I just started thinking of Rasputin Twilight.
