What scares you

Again not phobias.

Are there things in movies and the like that really get to you? Like the classic side on view where you can't see what's behind the character, then they turn around, the camera shifts and there's a monster.

For me it's the single loud note that plays when there is a nasty surprise, it always freaks me out, even when I've seen the movie and know it's coming.

I've always been a sucker for the "jump scare." Anything just popping up, usually accompanied with the appropriate music, is enough to have me sleep with all lights on

Glowing, beady red eyes scare the crap out of me. Ever since Amittyville Horror and the, "Jody went out the window" scene, where the mother doesn't believe in her daughter's "imaginary friend," looks out the window, and sees this.

jodyeyes1.jpg

Found a video of the whole scene,

All I gotta say on that is, "Fuck that shit."

Also, I was at the most eight when I saw that scene.

Other than that, however, things that scare me are creatures so foreign in their appearance they drive you to the brink of insanity with merely their presence.

Usually what scares me is when whatever the heck it that is stalking them tears them up or is maiming or killing them most painfully and ruthlessly and they force you to watch them be killed. I watch how they do it, it gets stuck in my mind, but it just makes me wince or close my eyes a little. Days after the movie, i can imagine gruesum things in my mind and it is usual from moives or games.....

Like fore intance when Joker forces that bodyguard's face/eye into the pencil he had deployed onto the table in darknight. I alsways close my eyes or look away because i know that that would really hurt.

Jump scares accompanied by loud sounds. That's about it.

Well what i mean to say is their screaming, yelling, futile calls for help, their pointless beggong to stop or save them. Only to be cut off by death or some kind of blood curtling, gut renching death. Mostly bexasue i can imagine that...and other things. I also think about things like that during the day at times. "yes, i am a sick person".

Mine is the classic jump scare,or gore. But what really scares me are Documentary type films that feature monsters (Coverfeild) ,demons (Paranormal Activity),that

make it seem soo scary because the protaganists are usually kids or young people that you could relate to,and they put the characters in surreal situations that none of them could get out of alive.

EDIT

And,what Vydrach said, glowing, beady eyes. Like Doll's eyes... *COOKIE 4 REFRENCE*

Is it sad that in just about every slasher film I want the antagonist to win? Especially when it's any of the Friday the 13ths past 2? I am always rooting for Jason Voorhees to kill someone in those movies, as 95% of them are so annoyingly stupid, you just want to see em get messed up by Jason. I've only ever liked two people in the Friday the 13th series, the young boy who took the fire axe and started hacking into Jason when he saw that he might still be alive (not sure which movie it was exactly, but I believe it was 4 or 5), as I thought the plan was good, but the execution (no pun intended) was bad, as he didn't go for a decapitation. I'm sorry, but if my family just got attacked by an undead murderer who comes back to life every few years, I'm going to at least decapitate him. The other was the black guy in, "Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Does Manhattan," as that guy actually tried to get away from Jason for a long time, but in this movie Jason apparently hacked reality as he teleports EVERYWHERE. You rarely saw him take a step in that movie. Guy runs from him down an alley, last you see is Jason at the entrance to the alley, guys runs into a building way down it, few seconds later Jason throws him out a window. Anyway, guy tries to run away for a long time, gets cornered, tries to fight him, doesn't work, and Jason ends up killing him, and my reaction was, "Awww, I actually liked him."

I also find it funny I can't be scared by any creatures touched by Stan Winston (Alien, Predator, Terminator, Pumpkinhead). Not that they didn't look amazing (quite the contrary, as I love Winston's work), but I just didn't get scared by them (probably because the creatures were too awesome to be afraid of). Alien didn't scare me as a child, PREDATOR damned sure didn't (I watched it probably 100 times before I hit 12), and Pumpkinhead I didn't see until I was in my mid-teens, but that didn't scare me either because he was funny with his sick sense of humour. The one character that really shouldn't of died imo was hiding in a church, hoping he couldn't step on holy ground and praying, if I remember correctly, and the creature walks up to her, notices what she's doing, and carves a cross into her forehead before killing her. My reaction to that scene was,

As for things that actually scared me, this scene from Stephen King's IT did (also that movie just traumatized me with clowns since I was about six when I saw it the first time),

That scene is actually rather funny now, but as a kid I was able to realize that he's basically screwed since no one else can see the thing, so they can't help, and if he said anything he'd likely get locked up, making it easier for the clown to kill him.

Not as much scared of it as really annoyed. When the person that is chased stands with his/her back to a tree, and whatever is pursuing is sniffing around on the other side, most of the time ouf ot camera view. Whether the movie so far have been good, or less so, it always make me lean foreward on the chair and start grumbling for that twat to get away from that tree and turn around to face it.

I'd have to say any game, or movie scene, where there's a dark area with an eerie silence and the only thing you hear is MAYBE the character we're focused on is doing (breathing, footsteps, muttering, etc) and all of a sudden there's a small sound that catches their attention. They look around, or you do since you're controlling the character via controller, and hears/sees nothing. So, they carry on and they hear a loud sound that catches their attention A LOT and sees that it's nothing. It may calm down from there a bit, but suddenly, the thing following you or the character pops out and attacks.

A few good examples would be Condemned 1 and 2, F.E.A.R 1, Extraction Point, and Perseus Mandate, some parts of Amnesia, and Fatal Frame
