Pokemania: A Case Study on the Number and Effect of the Pokemon Series

Aight, besides the overly complicated title for this topic (Which, I may add, is neccessary in doing a research thing ) it really comes down to a basic discussion on your feelings on the Pokemon franchise.

More specificallly, are there just TOO MANY Pokemons now?

Personally, I feel that they should have stopped adding new ones after Gold/Silver/KCrystal ().

Or, at least have put out a helluva lot less. Like, add maybe 10 or so new Pokemon per game, and expand on the story more instead.

The idea for this topic came from a conversation I was a part of in the Rec Room, so I know it is a hotly debated issue.

I'll likely add more to my intial thesis as we go along, but for now, let's hear what YOU think SF-O! k_e_smile.gif

Personally, I like having a large variety of Pokemon to catch. I think this opinion mainly comes from the fact that I like racing games with hundreds of cars in them. This Yoshi likes variety, it's one of the key factors I research before getting a game.

If they stopped adding new Pokemon, then in it'd get boring.

That'd be like if Nintendo said, "Hey, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 were successful, so let's not change it up whatsoever and make 6 more galaxies!!!"

You're right Deploy, but that is if they keep the same story going (Cuz the games all have pretty much the same story, with minor differences).

I propose that they should have added a few Pokemon at a time and done a more grand story throughout the series.

Just my opinion though! k_e_smile.gif

The story isn't what most hardcore Pokemon fans desire. They want Pokemon, lots of them to collect, and more ways to use these Pokemon. More Pokemon features, more Pokemon.

More Pokemon.

More Pokemon.

More POKEMON.

I'm currently trying to get back into Pokemon; at the urging of my friends of course. x.x

But yeah, I'll be the "old man" who refuses to acknowledge change and say only the Gen-I pokemon are enough.

For me, personally, they could have created new adventures, but let the Pokemon count stop once Sinnoh was created. I strongly prefer the Kanto and Jhoto Pokemon, but I don't mind Hoen or Sinnoh.

However, I cannot stand the most recent generation of Pokemon - it just feels as if they've lost their charm, and they just look so ridiculous and bland. On top of that, I refuse to play Black and White, due to the fact that I cannot import the Pokemon I want until I either beat the game, or trade with someone who has already finished the game.

Like I said before, it would have been nice if we could continue onto a new adventure as one of the characters from past games (Gold ----> Platinum), as if it's a continuation of their - and ultimately, your - story. Just don't create any more new Pokemon - or, at the very least, actually sit down and think about designs, as opposed to simply sketching garbage and calling it a Pokemon.

Pokemon got boring for me after the original silver and gold, aka 251 folks.

Pokemon is cool. But Imma say that they need less pokemon, they're running out of ideas.

Guest Mr. Nintendo

I stopped playing Pokemon at the time Emerald came out... (Despite me owning Pearl which I swear will not ever buy another Pokemon.)

Why should it matter if they make more, as long as they don't get rid of the old. Your tea only consists of 6, so just find the ones that you think are the coolest, and then the rest don't matter. In this situation I believe more is better. Also if Pokemon are substitutes for animals, there should be millions of em.

I agree. Plus new pokemon get a lot of hate simply because it's change. It's why I'm going through each Generation's games. I'm trying to adjust smoothly into said change, rather than plowing in after about 10 years of not playing. Plus my A-team of pokemon is all Gen-I mons anyways. :B
