Waaait! Waiwaiwaiwait! Put those rocks down! Lemme explain!

*ahem*

So there I was, planning a bitchin RP for you guys when I was suddenly burnt out and overwhelmed with like 3 others at once. So I come back, promise it's coming, and then tornados and crap hit while I'm figuring out how to do Let's Plays. AND THEN THERE WAS NO ROOM FOR THIS RP IN MY NOOB HEAD.

...*cowers*

Okay. I promised this was coming, and then procrastinated and was chastised. Well, I regret none of that at ALL, since I have just drastically improved this. I wanna know what you think.

First, some backstory. So there I was, browsing http://am2r.freeforums.org/ and appreciated my custom Fire Emblem avatar I have there. So I began a train of thought, starting with Fire Emblem being an RPG I need to give more love. RPG - G = RP, of which reminded me I was procrastinating on a different forum. That reminded me of this thread, and with the character portait of General Milky fresh in mind, it made me wonder how the characters in this RP could scratch him if he wore armor, like in an FE game. Then it hit me. This needs a number system.

But, but, I also want this to be a story RP and not a poor man's tabletop game, so I brainstormed ways to have both. I think I've got it. So then, the point of this thread is for you all to unite and take Milky down? Why not promote bonding? And therein lies the system. Every character will have a static pair of stats, attack and defense, and so will Milky. So do you go out and fight monsters and such? Hell no, this ain't D&D, I ain't gonna reward you for punting squirrels. Instead, you all will have an invisible "achievement" system.

These will be feats and mile stones on a list only I will have. Each achievement will modify your character's stats, which will serve as your growth. To avoid players grinding them, I will alert people their achievements over PM, and ask that you don't speak of them until the finale, which will be the only time this number system becomes relevent. I repeat, this stat system will only matter any amount of beans in the final march. So how is this going to work?

Basically, this will be an ordinary roleplay for the most part. However, any character, solo or party, can at anytime decide to go face the evil General. If things are unfavorable, your character will almost surely die. To suit the focus on bonding, I'll tell you the formula I have in mind, using an example I already pitched to a friend.

Mark and John are hiding from a resistence sweep. The building they are in is surrounded by Milky's commandos and armed sentry bots. Should mark and John survive, they will walk away stronger, more resilient people and thus will be awarded the achievement which grants a +1 bonus to defense. But there's more, should John and Mark be in the same squad infiltrating Milky's lair, their sharing of that achievement will multiply the bonus to 2. Their bond, from surviving and experiencing hell together, strengthens their resolve to survive. Now, say if a Mary was also in the same sweep Mark and John were earlier, and also was in this squad. All three of their +1 def achievement grants them a much better +4.

The idea behind this is that experiences make people strong, but a single person can only be so much. There needs to be a bond, an emphasis on these people operating and fighting off of eachother's strength rather than their own, and the resolve to keep eachother safe makes them stronger than raw physical ability experience alone. This is why any squad attempting to fell Milky may share their collection of achievements, to apply bonuses to achievements they share. Milky's stats will be hidden to avoid breaking the immersion and turning it into a "grind until we are ready" approach. I want players to come in as a group uncertain of the outcome and connect them much like the characters themselves are.

So how will the stats themselves be used? They will be used to determine an RNG. I'm not exactly sure how I'll be doing this yet, but it'll run off percentage compared to Milky's stats. For this example's sake, say Milky has 100 defense. Any character with an atk stat of below 50% of that (say he or she has 47 attack) it'll always fail. Milky will always be unphased, dodge, or some other godmod action to nulify the attack. The opposite holds true, too. Any character with +50% will always wreck the General. There'll be a balance in between, being a 50/50 chance of success or failure at an even stat and scaling up and down from there. I don't know the exact percents or formulas I'll use yet, but it will be something along those lines.

Any questions or objections? Anything to add maybe?

Being the friend he pitched his example to, I support this notion 100%.

This could work quite well, I like the idea of having hidden stats.

I've never done anything like this before and so it boggles my mind. I'll probably mess this up. :( I'll more than likely need help. I better go create my character anyway...

I didn't even think about creating a character until Redeem said that  I better write up a character. (Though I have a question can we use different races other than humans like a fox or an elf or something or do we have to be human?)

Don't worry about that. I'm the only one that ever does anything with them, so all you really need to know is "they are good."

Before I became a mod here on SF-O, I was working on airing an RP somewhat similar to this, with stats and figures deciding whether or not you'd succeed or not. At that time, it didn't get enough support that I considered it worth the effort. The main roleplaying base then found it most fun if they could pull Landmasters out of thin air and win every fight rather than letting their characters grow with the challenges.

In any case, I wish you best of luck with it. And if you fancy adding some random parametres to your win/defeat calculations, take a look at this place. Dice room

This be an online dice room. You can create your own little room to roll dices within, and other people who have the room name will be able to see your rolls and the results.

Oh shit, I suppose I'd better go write up a character myself. It's meant to be a representation of myself in this forum, yes? Because I can have a lot of fun with that as a guideline :D

Alrighty then!

Well then, I suppose we'll get this going as soon as a good few of you get some characters done. As Xort said, try to have him or her representitive of you and your place here on SFO.

If you're late, don't worry. You can come in at nearly any time.

The stat system Milky explained was pretty confusing but I'm hoping I'll get the hang of it during the RPG. If not hopefully there will be some help at this.

He'll handle the vast majority of it, really. Basically, when you feel your character has been through enough tough shit and survived that he can handle the General, you go take him on and he'll tally up your stats and see how it goes during the confrontation. I assume most of the number work will be hidden, though.

Look up my topic, I used a fairly decent template. I was appointed as an RP mod when I was 14 so I'm super-perfectionist about my profiles.

Miiiiilllllllkkyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy..... Which version of me do you want me to use? The psycho brain analysis guy I am here, or my weird doctor persona you seem to find me to be? Either one works, I honestly don't care.

I could use an evil doctor if you're on my side. Especially if you're a smartass. :P

One last roll call to see who's in. If you haven't made a character, do so now and link here. I'll try to get this going either over or directly after the weekend.
