Fire Yoshi
Tbh, it's not the price that's hindering my decision to want to buy a 3DS right away. It's the fact that there are only a few good games (imo of course) out for the thing, some software is still "missing," and the color red isn't out yet. In all pickyness, the color red not being out is the main reason why I haven't bought one yet. =P That aside, they have to reach a certain economy of scale before a price drop is feasible. Remember: Nintendo is not as diversified as Sony and Microsoft. Loss-Leads are much more risky for Nintendo than MS or Sony. I guess you can say that this is partially the reason why Nintendo's games take forever to drop in price.

Deploy
Maybe a price drop will come when the Nintendo Stream (aka Project Cafe, Wii 2, Wii HD) comes out in 2012! :D
Sarita
Heck, just releasing the device on pink attracted a lot of girls. Don't hate on my pink DS Lite. Or I'll make you buy me Hello Kitty things for it for my birthday. /srs conversation is srs. On a similar note, maybe when the price drops enough, it'll be time for me to upgrade to a 3DS... of course, that's assuming I use my DS more. I almost bought a pink DS Lite until the store clerk found a white one. Anywho, I don't really care about a price drop. All I want is better games, maybe a new Dark Spire. DZComposer
A 2012 price drop isn't an impossible idea, though I doubt it. Remember, the Osbourne effect WILL hit the Wii (which already has declining sales) after E3, and if the 3DS is turning a healthy profit, they won't want to cut it during that time period. I'm beginning to think that the Wii was a collection of grand experiments, of which one ultimately failed. That's not to say the Wii was a commercial failure, far from it, in fact. I'm talking conceptually, here. Wii was a commercial proof-of-concept on three fronts: motion control, casual-focused gaming, and caricature avatars. Motion control is here to stay. Everyone has it now. Even cellphone games are starting to use it. 3DS has it. Cafe is sure to have it. It just will be more subtle that Wii's motion control. Casual-focused gaming, however, I think proved that it was not sustainable. The wii was designed to be a casual gamer's machine. The controller form factor, for instance, looks like a TV remote. This form factor is not ergonomic at all, but it is familiar to anyone who has used a TV. You have "channels" for software, again making it familiar to people who aren't used to interacting with their TVs. It was also underpowered so that it could be cheap. While these decisions upped the mass-market appeal, they added to 3rd party reluctance on the system, and made gamers shy away. Nintendo appears to be showing that they learned this. Nintendogs is the only largely casual game on 3DS. There was not a "Mii Sports 3D" game. Pilotwings Resort sure looked like one, but it IS a bonafide sequel to the Pilotwings franchise. And the Miis are a welcome change. Avatars > generic nondescript pilot with your name. Miis. Avatars are here to stay. Everyone has them now. Even Android phones have "Androifify" avatars. Trust me, Miis aren't going anywhere, especially if Cafe has more online abilities. That said, I would like to see a "Mii 2.0" with more available facial features, clothing, etc.
Beau Skunk
I hear it's selling very very well, even with the expensive-for-a-handheld price. (Maybe 'cause it was still cheaper then expected.) So I doubt Nintendo's ganna lower the price soon personally. Also, look at the Wii, it's outselling the PS3 & 360, and it's price didn't go down until a year & a half ago. If it's the same case with the 3DS don't count on getting it cheaper anytime soon. The reason the GameCube's price went down so quickly is 'cause it wasn't selling as well as other consoles. As much as I love Nintendo, it does make me wish that the 3DS sales would slow down, so I can get it cheaper.
