My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

One must be man enough to admit this show is good.

To tell the truth, I was expecting it to be....girlish crap, like the original pony show, and I'm glad I was wrong, I was obligated, by Sara, to at least watch one episode.

I'm man enough to say...it's good stuff, really original and funny. I ended up watching all the episodes (1-26), and no one had to make me watch them, I'm a grow up man now. .

See? ponies demand love too.

Not really. Before it was a meme, maybe, but atm people just assume it's a reference.

What exactly were you replying to in his post? I sense that I disagree with what you're saying (big surprise ) but I can't quite figure out what exactly it is.

^As cool as that was in its own weird way, it's not appropriate for this thread so much as it would be for the Bronies Unite thread :P

WTF is with all of these grown men obsessing over Pink Ponies. It's a show for little girls. Did you leave your masculinity somewhere? Sheeh... These damn things are everywhere, and I am quite frankly sick and tired of seeing them.

And they're fucking ugly. Ugh...

Day-by-day my adblock plus custom filter grows fatter off of these damn things.

Sir, i am 14, and the show does have its girly moments, but aside all that is pretty dang good. Especially after whatching several diffrent episodes and the charcters begain to disagree with each other.

MLP: FiM is a show that's reminiscent of the quality of cartoons that was prevalent in the 80's and early 90's. One reason why it's so popular today is because it's far better than all the low quality crap that gets pumped out today but if compared to shows like Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Inspector Gadget, Animaniacs, etc it falls short still IMO in terms of overall quality. FiM is one of those shows that appeal to ALL audiences with it's jokes and other types of humour that kids wouldn't get but adults would (like Animaniacs.

Nothing wrong with ANYONE liking FiM, especially since this generation is long overdue for a GOOD cartoon series like the one's that I grew up with.

First off, there's only one pony in the mane cast who's pink. That would be Pinkie Pie. Secondly, when did liking a show about ponies make someone un-masculine? This is the sort of bad judgment I definitely wouldn't expect from DZComposer. Does wearing a purple or pink shirt make me gay? Does liking vegetables make me a vegetarian? This is bad form, DZ, and I'm quite honestly shocked.

As for what's with everyone obsessing over them, look at User's post. It's actually a damn good show, if you can put your petty prejudice away and get past the fact that they're ponies. It's decently animated, has a nice art style, the voice actors are good, the music is damn good, the morals are true and not over the top, the comedy is actually funny, and the characters are well written and develop over the course of the show. In short, it's a good show.

I happen to think they are unfairly adorable.

Hahaha. First sentence. Either that's a typo, or an accidental pun.

Sorry for my prejudice here, but isn't the target demographic girls age 7-12. That said however, it's never the show that's the problem, but the FANBASE!

It was neither. It was an intended pun :P

The target audience for MLP in general is young girls, yes. That's why I, and so many others, were skeptical to watch it in the first place. However, Lauren Faust, who is the creative mind behind season 1, has said something along the lines of "I want little girls and grown men to be able to enjoy this show." She was also a part of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and the Powerpuff Girls, both awesome shows in their own rights, so the show has quite a bit going for it as far as appealing to a wide audience. Also, there's quite a bit of very subtle innuendo and other such things in the show, but that might just be the fandom going a bit crazy :/

As for the fanbase itself, yeah. It can get a little annoying if you aren't part of it. However, and I don't know how true this will remain in the future, but the pony fandom as I've encountered it - Equestria Daily, Ponychan, and Flankbook - are some of the most welcoming and polite people I've ever come across in the Internet. Not to mention, helpful. They're a really awesome group, if you can get past the horrible puns we use.

And just be glad I'm not replacing "everybody" with "everypony." I could be doing just that, you know

Honestly, I have to say, It's a good show.

After 5 episodes. The story is good, so are the graphics and characters.

The only reason people don't really like it is most-likely because it's intended for little girls.

SO WHAT!

Just because it's intended for little girls doesn't mean to bail on it and not try it out.

Careful, DZ. Like the Touhou fandom, the Pony fandom is large, works fast, and is absolutely rabid. Expect to be swarmed.

Only you're wrong. Aside from me, the only person here likely to really take DZ up on a pony debate is Vydrach, and as I said, the only thing we're really rabid about is making new fanworks. I know I'm not going to go batshit on DZ just because he doesn't like ponies. The only reason I reacted as I did was because his logic in his post was horribly flawed and based in unwarranted prejudice, which is something I definitely don't expect from one of our smartest members.

I try, and try, but I just can't do it... the second the theme song starts playing I can't take it anymore... I know the show is gonna be good after that theme song, but! I just! can't! make it!!!

Just make it through about three episodes and you'll learn to love the opening. I know from experience :D

I've said before, some people like DZ, claim to be objective, but say dumb things like "Its for girls so bleh", and even many people here and elsewhere who now claim to like it mocked me back in day. What's strange is the show is simply good. To recommend better stuff gets that same "Its for kids" reaction, which makes me believe most of the people who claim to like dont, and are just in it for the meme. They have no thought or opinion of there own other then what 4 chan tells them to like.

Liking or disliking something is someone's prerogative, though I am a little disappointed that he's dismissing it without actually giving it its fair shot. I used to despise My Little Pony, I still have the older generations of it, because, let's face it, this is fucking creepy.

lyratv.png

(By the way, that would be Lyra, one of the many background ponies given names, looking at generation one Bon-Bon)

Contrary to popular (IE Milky's) opinion, I didn't get into the show because of the meme. At least not in the normal sense. I did see ponies every where, especially on FA, and was wondering WTF was with all the ponies, and Jay Naylor did a picture of the mane (lol) cast as humans, didn't recognize them, then shortly thereafter he did a picture of Derpy Hooves as a human, which reading the comments found out who the character actually was, and why I had been seeing ponies everywhere for several months. Then I did some google snooping, wound up on Knowyourmeme about Derpy, and from there to the show in general, and found that people were being banned off 4chan for liking ponies, which piqued my interest quite a bit, as from what I'd heard I pictured 4chan as a cesspool that anything goes, no rules, so having people banned off the site for liking ponies meant it had to be potent stuff, one way or the other. Also artists I liked also liked the show (such as Squeedgemonster and Renard), and it stood to reason that if image artists I liked also liked the show, it meant that the animation was good (which I was correct in assuming), and that if music artists I liked also liked the show, the music was likely good (also correct). So, knowing people I shared similar tastes with liked the show, finding the idea behind Derpy Hooves hilarious, and knowing people were banned off 4chan over the show, I decided to give it its fair shot to impress me. I found out when the show was on, watched it, and it was the episode "Green Isn't Your Colour," and laughed my ass off at Pinkie Pie's randomness, as that was humour I enjoyed a lot.

Granted the meme factor did have a hand in introducing me to the show, I don't enjoy the show because of the meme and pictures like this,

loveitwithfire.jpg

I love the meme and pictures like that because of the show. When the meme has blown over, I'll still be watching the show (even if it's just reruns on youtube because they didn't release a DVD collection), and I'll still be going through my picture collection and laughing.

As for why I like the show, myself and others have already explained about the characters being likable, the events in the show not being super dumbed down girly, music that usually isn't forced, out of place, or sounds bad, good animation, etc etc. Other good shows have been named in here, and I've seen some of them, and they were good shows, but I wouldn't say they were all around better. They were better for categories, like Animaniacs beats FiM for slapstick comedy hands down. No contest. But with those shows, when they were over, they were over. With FiM, I constantly craved more. When the show was over, I wanted to know more about the characters, what happened to them, what their families were like, things like that, and I know I wasn't the only one, as people would theorize about the characters. A lot of people thought the reason Pinkie was so "Nnnnnngggghhh!" was because her parents died when she was young, and that her insanity was a way to deal with the grief, leading to images like this.

130705820311.jpg

Granted it's basically fan fiction, but there's more to it than that, a different element to it. Rather than just wanting to make up a story, the people were more trying to understand the characters better.

Only two other things ever really affected me to the point that I had a need to know more about the setting, the who, what, when, where, and whys. Those were Star Fox, and Dragons (mostly the Dragons from the Temeraire and Eragon book series).

Anyway, don't just hate it because it has "My Little Pony" in the title. I recommend giving it a shot, you just might be surprised. Like it or hate it, it's fine, just as long as there's more reason to it than because of the title.

I hate to pick a single line out of a post, but it's really the only thing I have to respond to specifically. As far as this topic goes, it's Sabre and not Milky who's saying people got into it because of the meme. Milky mentioned its meme status, but only really in passing.

Other than that, you basically just reiterated what everyone else has been saying with your own personal twist on it, so I have no beef with it at all.

Yeah, MLP kicks ass, but it IS a meme. Doesn't mean much other than the internet at large is all over it now.

Nah, that was aimed at something he said in another topic, where he said I was just a 4chan sheep who liked MLP simply because it is a meme, and had no originality, despite the fact that I have only been to 4chan once that I can remember.

Oh. Well, I'm sure that was before I inadvertently turned him into a pseudo-brony. Plus, Sabre needed to be included in your little spiel there anyway, seeing as he's advocating that point of view pretty hard.

I was trollan' not to mention that your utter obsession with it came off that way (I had yet to learn what a brony was or the fucking earthshakingly huge fandom and independent websites they had) because spamming Pony images = 4chan = /b/rony = /b/ = unoriginal waste of internet
