The "Complain About the Plot" Thread

Krystal

She had a potentially great back-story, but they reduced her to a sex symbol and damsel in distress. Why not give her moments in the series where she kicks a whole lot of a@#? Maybe make her something more closely related to Star Fox than a magical Aztec girl; a ground trooper from the Cornerian Army, or a freedom fighter among her people to free them from Andross?

Adventures' gameplay

I would've been perfectly okay if Krystal and General Scales were the only things brought from Dinosaur Planet into Star Fox, but why not fix the gameplay as well? It would've been so much nicer if the gameplay overall went like this;

STAGE 1: Krystal, a rebel fighting to free her enslaved people from General Scales, heads to Corneria to find Star Fox for help, but must blast her way through enemy ships. Boss-Pirate destroyer ship.

STAGE 2: Arwing mission where Star Fox is taking out a group of space pirates. Fox runs into Krystal at the end, in love with her, but she's not too keen on how Fox stares at her certain moments (She even slaps him a few times). Boss-General Scales in what looks like an old 16th century pirate ship, but with futuristic technology.

STAGE 3: First of many branches in the story's path. Either investigate alleged sightings of Andross' remaining goons on Titania (First-person), or defend a munitions plant on Zoness from a gang of pirates trying to rob it (Arwing combat). Bosses-Captain Shears riding a mutant boar (Titania), and an enemy aircraft carrier with a massive turret (Zoness).

STAGE 4: Arwing mission in Sector Z to destroy a space pirate battle station, or Landmaster mission on Fortuna to keep the pirates to capturing civilians into slavery. Bosses-The battle station itself after it transforms into a bat-like machine (Sector Z), and a giant ground assault vehicle that splits into 5 parts.

STAGE 5: Play as Krystal again in first-person mode, either sabotaging a pirate stockade on Fichina, or an assassination attempt against Scales (She fails and Scales gets away regardless). Bosses-A pirate commander in an electrically charged suit of armor (Fichina), and General Scales armed with a sword and minigun.

STAGE 6: Play as Fox again in Arwing mode, the options being to free pirate slaves held in a bunker in Sector Y, or to take back a Cornerian army base in the asteroid field. Bosses-A synthesis of the Corneria bosses from Star Fox 64 (Sector Y), and a heavily armed excavator-like machine (Asteroid Field).

STAGE 7: Landmaster mission as Star Fox, either destroy the pirates' secret weapon on Corneria's moon, or break into a pirate base to steal important data. Bosses-An enormous spider-like mech (The moon) and a computer virus brought to life in reality (Also the moon).

STAGE 8: Play as Krystal in first-person mode, either free slaves to the pirates held on Aquas, or cut off the pirates' fuel supplies by blowing up their depot on Macbeth. Bosses-A vicous octopus-like monster with sharp blades at the end of it's tentacles (Aquas) and a battle mech armed with 2 Gatling guns and rocket launchers (Macbeth).

STAGE 9: Play as Fox in an Arwing mission, either rescue General Pepper from the pirates in Sector X, or drive a fleet of pirates away from Solar. A large scorpion-like ship (Sector X), or a horrific gargoyle-like monster (Solar).

STAGE 10: As Krystal, in first-person mode, free the slaves back on Cerinia by taking out the pirate commanders, and organizing the Cerinians into a rebellion against Scales to drive him away. Bosses-A massive tunnel boring machine with automatic turrets all over it's body.

FINAL STAGE: As Fox, hunt down Scales as he flees for Venom, fighting your way through the remaining pirates, and destroying Scales' hideout with a Nova Bomb. Fox and Krystal share a hug and bid each other farewell, promising to work together again someday if they have to. Boss-General Scales, piloting a flying fortress that resembles a Medieval castle.

Andross:

Shouldn't have made it into Adventures. Having General Scales as the main villain, and final boss, would've been much better, giving fans of the previous Star Fox games something new and exciting to do. Nintendo already has plenty of villains like Bowser or Ganondorf who keep coming back time and time again, so it's nice to have villains who aren't in their respective sereis' as often as others are.

That sure was some complaining about the plot. I'm impressed.

Also, on topic, my thoughts on the plot have already been stated herein and I see no reason for redundancy.

yes, i too would have liked Adventures if it had gone exactly according to the elaborate fanfiction i plotted out in my head

but it did not, because Rare insolently failed to read my mind, so they suck

the bastards

Blame Microsoft. They acquired it from it's proper owner, Nintendo, thus also ruining Banjo-Kazooie with shoddy character designs, and fewer and fewer Jiggies to collect.

Blame Rare for allowing itself to be bought out. Microsoft has nothing to do with the Starfox franchise.

Yeah, I think Microsoft's only hand in Adventures' shittiness was rushing Rare to finish the game, hence all the incomplete scraps. But even then I'm not sure of their excuse for not trying to cover the gaping plotholes. It's not like Bill Gates himself crawled in there and thought "you know what? I'm going to totally mess with their shit".

I Look at it this way, Thank God Star Fox wasn't sent with Rare

Because the two games that came after it were significantly better?

How is that any better? I know what you mean. You don't wanna see a Starfox game on Xbox. The only reason that Conker and Banjo & Kazooie had Xbox titles is because those franchises belonged to Rare (which is owned by Microsoft.) But on the contrary, Assault was developed by Namco, and some will say that Assault, though being the more Starfox game, is in fact worse than Adventures. Command was dev'd by Q-Games and Nintendo EAD. What I'm saying is Rare may not be the worst developer. But this is about the Starfox Plot. Let's leave the devs out of this

Actually, development had a lot of effect on the poor plot I would think. All the writers were afraid to mess with the characters TOO much because it wasn't their original work...they were being cautious with subject matter they didn't know very well and it shows.

Yeah. I guess you're right. If I had been asked by someone to make something with their characters, I would be worried about manipulating them too much, for fear of ruining the character's personality and in turn displeasing the original creator(s). But it seems with these developers that doing that or the exact opposite can have the same negative results. Then again, I wonder if the characters would be written better if writers for some Indie developer took charge. I guess we'll have to wait and see

Someone not afraid to explain shit needs to get ahold of it, or, y'know, Nintendo themselves can straighten out their stuff and write the characters as they originally intended them. Tiptoing around other people's work is probably responsible for most of the plot holes in the games thus far, and lack of relationship explanation. "What's Fox and Wolf's backstory? Hmm, let's not say because Nintendo might have something planned." "Should Fox and Krystal get together? I dunno, let's not do that in case Nintendo wants to go somewhere else with that." Those kind of things that would make writers leery of going into detail that we actually unfortunately need for anything to make sense.

I kinda of wish there was a squad based system of gameplay. Like Republic commando, but SF still ^_^

That has...nothing to do with plot.

Well in that case, they could have just done "more" with Assault and adventures. They have/had alot of potential, but i would understand if the commpany and producers were under alot of stress and were under a certain time constraint or something like that.

Yeah. Adventures was happening right as Rare was bought and Assault got screwed up by the Triforce Arcade Project's failure.

What Command's excuse was is anyone's guess.

I ponder if Command was solely just to piss off the fans, while at the same time, tiding them over for whatever they were planning next for the series.

Well, Q-Games is part of Sony ya'know...not just Nintendo.
