New Console is called WiiU

Star Fox Runner

I have to admit, I was a little disappointed when I saw the new name, but once it started showing gameplay footage, my mind was changed.

I was really surprised to see Battlefield coming to WiiU, that was the last game I expected to be announced.

And that tiny bit of footage from that Zelda game, THAT BLEW MY MIND!!!!!!!! Imagine the possibilities for other games, especially Star Fox! Imagine how THAT'S gonna look!

Nintendo has a lot of work to do. Wii is not the brand you want to put on a system you want core gamers to play. That brand is a no-go for them. I would have preferred Stream to WiiU.

It's a sad thing they didn't explain more things, I was sold with Zelda HD and smash brothers 4. But having EA ceo going onshow was a total unexpected surprise.

I was too, Nintendo really seems to be trying to bring in the third parties this time.

Although they still didn't say who their online partner is going to be.

Although, outside of that Zelda clip and the mention of Smash Bros. 4, they really didn't show off their IPs for WiiU. So I'm wondering what's coming.

Like HAWKS on 360 perhaps?

To be honest, all zelda has going for it atm is graphics which are not as good in that footage as say Halo Reach. While the video was compressed, I think mind blowing is overstating it.

I guess I overdid it right there, but it has got me excited to say the least.

If nothing Nintendo does pleases you, then why are you here? o_O

I assume you are talking to me?

I don't see the problem with not being happy. My feelings on all of them is apathy. Normally that would be a middle ground between fanboys and haters, but in a fanboy envioment maybe it seems as though I am the lone nay sayer.

If by here you mean the forums, you know why and you also know the lack of that why is why I rarely here. If you mean the thread, just offering my opinion on the matter, although it is possably getting off topic.

The Wii was looking awesome when it was first announced and launched, and then quickly died. This new machine is starting without much hype from me and, as you pointed out, 'core' gamers. Also, it's in the same possision the Dreamcast was, in between 2 and thus could share the same fate.

As I said in another thread, the silent scope type demo looked like it could be interesting for FPS. The lack of screen watching could be great for some games. However, let's not go overboard with the hype.

First, why would I buy a machine that plays games I will have on xbox that I already own? They might have some touch screen gimmick, but if the wii and DS are anything to go buy, that will likely make those games worse.

The cost of the controller is a concern, but Nintendo machines have always been cheap so the console itself doesn't worry me to much.

Problem 3 is rehashes. I really dont care about Mario Kart, or Smash Bros, or Zelda. While it will have maybe a year of Xbox games on it, what about when the PS4 comes out? Will the Wii2 become a grave yard like the wii and the later years of the DS?

It has the potential to be very cool, but let's not kid ourselves with terms like 'mindblowing' when the demos have shown nothing that wasn't done by the likes of Project Offset 6 years ago. Hell Indies are looking great at the moment.

and if the wii 2 can't run Unreal 4, Cryengine 4 or idTech 6 (which are currently being worked on) then that's a real problem.

It's to early to write off the machine, but it's to early to call it awesome either.

Guest Mr. Nintendo

^ That.

Also, while I won't comment on the graphics or anything... I think Nintendo could've came up with a better name and console than WiiU (What does the U even stand for? "Ultimate"?)

(What does the U even stand for? "Ultimate"?)

According to what Reggie Fils-aime said after the press conference, the U stood for "Utopian".

I read it as "We: You" which is just...goofy.

Third party games is alright, but I didn't exactly want Nintendo's main deal to be "look, we can play the same games as other consoles!". That's...great?

Meh. I'm underwhelmed. Not overly disappointed but just, "meh", you know?

Third Party = MANY more games that can be played on the wii U = more moneyz = more betterfuller non third party games. Hopefully anyways.

As a name it's ok. Comparing other consles with their respective pasts...

The control seems just plain confusing at first, I admit. But it looks like one of those futuristic products everyone imagined would exist back in the nineties...

I wonder if it'll have backward compatibility with the 3DS, like playing 3DS games on the big screen. :D *reminisces the days of the GameBoy Player* ^^

Some news. A hands on story from Giant Bomb claimed that the new Zelda isn't a new game, just a tech demo for HD. Second, the 'mindblowing' zelda game, the art was twilight prinessed up rezed and rendered in HD. So it's a slightly sharper version of what some emulators can do. The screen to screen thing apparently worked flawlessly.

The machine will apparently use it's own disc format and play wii discs. I'm guessing it's something comprable to bluray. It has to be really.

The bad news. You can't have multiple controllers. There is no hard disc, they are going with flash memory again. You can use a USB hard drive, but why should you have to?

I haven't found any graphics, cpu or ram spacs outside of the very vuage "IBM Multi core cpu" which is like saying "A car has an engine".

When will Nintendo ever learn from their mistakes...a hard drive isn't even that much money today. >_>

I was never under the impression that Nintendo was actually struggling financially. Anyways, I'm not AGAINST them allowing it, but it just seems silly; are they going to rerelease a bunch of third-party games for it? 'Cuz if that's the route they're going then we...already have the consoles for those...

am I the only one looking forward to it?..Honestly the new console doesn't seem all that bad at all. The controller looks interesting enough..though I think I'm going to wait a little bit..probably until the price drop considering I'm in short supply on cash.

Third parties = more games. Mario is fine, but look at the best xbox and PS3 games. Dead Space, Batman, stuff like that, made with these consoles in mind. Look back at the N64 or the PS2.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's DETRIMENTAL, I'm not not excited for it because rather than buy a WiiU I already have the consoles that can play those games. Really strong original titles are what will hook me for the WiiU, though Smash Bros 4 isn't a bad start I guess.

Right now, the pros of the controller are its versatilites. The cons, it's shape...

I have to say, I've got mixed feeling with the WiiU as well.

Sure it game have lotsa great games on it (Just imagine Metroid, Star Fox etc...) but hopefully the controller will make those games actually great to play.

Also, Nintendo wouldn't release a half-assed console/controller would they?

I'm sure I'll be more convinced next year when Ninty show it off PROPERLY. =D
