IGN Hate Star Fox (Fox McCloud in particular)

Mr. Krystal

Recommended Posts

To be honest, I somewhat agree. Star Fox is a series that relies on continuity yet it's the one with the most errors. I'm left tired and annoyed of his constant changes. He and Peppy are the characters that have changed the most from the first and now they're starting to do it to Krystal. But you know, I'm willing to deal with it, though I don't like it, that's not what the game's about. To me, atleast, it's about the gameplay and plot (even thought that too is full of plotholes) And I don't think they're getting a tidal wave of hate mail, it's pretty true things that they've said. Maybe if they worder it differently it would sound better than just hate.

But I don't se what's wrong with Falco. And this new Fox has sorta grown on me unlike the Assualt Fox.

But seriously, they've... pretty much... just summed it all up, if you think about it... they're right, Fox has gone from good... kinda good... to very good... to horrible... then to a new stage of horrible...

I mean, I personally like the non-furness in N64, but once they tried that in Assault and from the looks of it and in Command. Wow, please go back to making the furry animals actually having fur to begin with. Falco? As of I see in no problems with him in the past games (kind of edgy with the ending scene in Adventures though, he looked kind of... metrosexual) and I see no problem with him in Command, hopefully they don't ruin him.

But making Peppy general, that's the thing I don't understand one bit. Then again, I have no idea why the group split up in the first place... that just killed the series right there, they already tried that... why go for round 2?

Slippy has improved alot through the series, I'm glad they didn't hate on him.

Then it comes to Krystal, who went from VERY good in Adventures even though she was a damsel-in-distress... to bad(IMO) in Assault, come on, there's no way she became a pilot that fast... then to the other stage of horrible like Fox in Command, her disease of headmelongitis like Fox just ruins right there... we don't need a Starfox version of Telly Tubbies, I thought I would be getting a game worth while but I've having doubts just looking at the team's appearance.

More Continuity problems in the same game.

If Fox looks like this,

Then Why does he look like this here?

I know, odd to compare such a large image to such a small one.

I agree with the article, I'm not too happy with the way Nintento has been treating the Starfox franchise.

I think it's really pathetic if someone thinks the game will be poor just because they don't like the way it looks.

ESF, she already knew how to fly a ship, she did at the end of Adventures...and would you rather they had made another huge time gap? Even if it isn't all that sensible, that shouldn't make you think less of her. The design was better in Adventures, but I thought she was more of a contribution in Assault. And the design in Assault wasn't THAT bad.

Okay, I've known about some people in IGN thinking a game about fuzzy animals flying in space shooting baddies isn't cool. First of all, how much cooler is a plumber jumpining on mushrooms? Or an elf boy in tights? And, news flash, animal characters are in media a lot, including games, for example, oh I don't know...how about Donkey Kong! Or Sonic the Hedgehog? Those are some of the most well known and beloved games!

Now I can understand the complaints to a point...the style, if you will, of each StarFox game has never been very consistent. N64 was solid fun, Adventures was gorgeous but not very good as a general StarFox game. Assault brought some of the original formula back but...lacked the luster of the older games. I for one liked each of them for what they were, but it would be nice if they just picked a theme and went with it.

It's not so much the Command design that's upsetting me...I actually think it's kind of cute and befitting for a portable game...I can't stand that it's so unanimously disliked. It's not that big a deal! Fox has always had kind of a big forehead...it looks a lot like RJ from the Over the Hedge movie to me, actually, and I find that funny. I don't have a roblem with the way Krystal looks, Falco and Slippy look just find to me...I am a little iffy on Peppy, though.

I think the look of each game is different because it gets passed around so much. Not that I think Rare and Namco did an awful job, but maybe if Nintendo cared enough to do the series themselves...or at least if the companies cared enough to be consistent with each other.

So I think IGN has some reasoning behind what they said, but I still think they, and lots of other people, are being WAY too critical and are focusing too much on symantics. Whether it's "cool" or not, or how it looks...really shouldn't matter. It pains me that people make such a fuss over this.

and well, ESF, you acutally kinda liked Krystal in SFAS before..

and wasn't IGN's review of SF:Command possitive?

aswell as all other games in the series, the score didn't got lower then 7.

So I finds this topic.. Very wierd..

"cool" and "not cool" its up to each one..

Liked Krystal in Assault, when? The only thing I "liked" about Krystal in Assault is her suit that tops off Command's in a heartbeat(Pink... come on, don't give me that "she's trying to be more femine" crap either) and her taunts in multiplayer... everything else about her is "eww", do we have to go through the "No personality" segment again? Or her and Fox's willing to flirt in the worst way? I can nitpick thousands of problems she had in Assault... but I'm not going to argue over her, I like her too much for that. She's still awesome though, even with the let down of Assault... and in my mind the soon-to-come "SF Command". What little role she had in Adventures is alright with me... I still play it enough, more than N64 and Assault or the NES version put together.

I agree with Kit (once again) And I actually quite like seeing what's next for the character design in Star Fox. Man IGN are such haters, go with it, Star Fox is great, character design shouldn't take your mind off gameplay. And if they're soo upset with Fox and crew always being redesigned, what about Link in Zelda? He has only really once looked the same in a different game. Oh and what annoyed me was that IGN likes the SSBM Fox better than the others; the SSBM Fox looks nothing like what he should, I mean, blue eyes  seriously. Oh and Kit, the "elf boy in tights" has quiite a big sword, I would be careful...

Yeah, as well as bows and bombs, and that plumber has some crazy jump moves. My point is that Nintendo takes things that are not necessarily "cool", and make them work in their games.

I'm saying they may have a point with the other stuff, somewhat, but a Fox named "Fox" and such being a flaw...give me a damn break, people.

Hmmm.....That was a low blow. I couldn't care less about how his look has changed. The important fact is about how the game has developed. Craig here seems to only focus on "the look" of Fox. So, when Craig can come up with better reasons to challenge the SF franchise, then I would take an offense to the article.

I highly disagree with that coment on IGN...sheesh...he looks neat on DS, I don't see what's the problem and well his name is ok...Fox McCloud, very original if I can say

I find that to be...quite sad. I could care less about the stupid outfits; they don't matter enough to make someone think one way or another about a game...at least they shouldn't...From what I can tell, you only care about Krystal, so I'm not even going to pretend to really get what you're saying.

Edit - Sorry you feel that way.

The biggest problem I see with this series is that EVERY game had a DIFFERENT developer. Nothing is consistent, and canon--in one respect or another--repeatedly gets altered. They can't even get eye colors to stay the same between games.

I'm guessing that the reasoning behind this is that the developers didn't have good taste for a part of the storyline of the predecessing game, and they change those parts to their liking for the next game.

As a matter of the fact, I love Starfox, and I've been a fan since the NES, and I have proof with pictures if you want them... so where do you get off saying that I just like Krystal. Did you even PLAY the NES game? I think I have full authority to post about the series since I actually played them all.

You mean the SNES, and yes I have.

And when did I say I was surprised? I'm actually not.

Look, I erased what I said. I wasn't getting off or blowing off, I just couldn't understand what you were saying. But fine, it's gone, just don't take it so damn personally >.>

All I'm trying to say is...good character design is nice and all, but gameplay and story lines are what matter most...at least to me. I'm not picky; if Command has decent play and story, I'll be happy. So I don't know why everyone is so upset about it.

That's all.

Thats one of the flaws with internet...

it can be hard to show your true feelings or so.. and "emoticons" are often used for humourous reasons..

I agree on ESF, but seriously.. the look of Fox could been a hell alot worser.. or "less good" if you see it that way..

I'm still waiting to see if Command is half decent or just plain... dirt.

I've been seeing magazine reviews for this game, and all of them placed it in a "so-and-so" section.

And now I'm feeling guilty for getting on their appearance, especially Krystal's. I suppose I shouldn't really care about them, but then again I feel I should because... it's going in a downslope... they've completely ruined Krystal's appearance...

I doubt it, Nintendo have changed the look of all the characters and have not just singled out one specific character, she's just in the same style as the rest of em.

If anything I think nintendo would wanna boost her popularity

I agree that the fact of furries in space with a fox named Fox who leads the team Star Fox... and rides in the Great Fox... I suspose that is a bit redundant. o_O

You know what else they need. A longer storyline i mean really assualt had only 10 levels. starfox for the snes had only a few levels per path. Adventures was ok and had a longer story, but that was one game. Command is getting there, but it still seems to short. 64 was also to short.
