Am I the only person that is suprised that SFO city A- got approved/started, and B- that there are people willing to play it?

Obvious Troll is Obvious.

I would sorta suggest this got locked so this didn't cause us to make fun and poke at Saber for doubting an obviously intriguing idea he simply wants to say is bad and hate on. Also, as we all know, this'll lead him to just troll on it.

But what do I know; I'm just some guy who happens to know some stuff and happen to be right almost all of the time.

I vote this stays open so we can troll Sabre about his trolling of the RP.

We already discussed this, and it was allowed to go forward. There's not much else to say on that.

Wait, what was even wrong with it?

Nothings wrong, and no trolling going on. I'm just suprised it got as far as it did. Given the RP sections history and a RP that has so much drama potential.

Hell, even the concept is usually something that doesn't attract players. There was a RP on another forum that had a much more lively RP comunity then this one didn't like the idea of RPing as other people on the forum.

Everyone has the right to be on it or not. And obviously, if it turns into a drama pot, Mods will see what to do with it.

It won't turn into a drama pot as long as I'm in it. Just relax. It's all for fun.

I don't see what's so surprising, it's a compelling storyline, and there were people that were interested in it, why is it so surprising it was approved?

My name is Milky and I'm hijacking this thread.

Welcome one and all to the discussion/info thread! Here I will clarify a few guidelines as well as list every player and link back to their character sheet.

The cast:

Milkyway64 as General Milky -

ajc3000fox as James -

Fluxy as Nick -

Redeemer as Red -

Shadow Matrix as Daniel -

Icantlose74 as The Other James -

Xort as Xort -

The list shall grow as more people show.

A bit of discussion now, mainly on some things I should have went over sooner. For those not aware, powerful characters are discouraged. It's fun to blow all your problems away with a hyper beam, but we're not going for that here. A little restraint will go a long way. Just know that your character isn't about to be a one man hero or superweapon or anything.

Second, I will personally be laid back for most of this. I'll influence the story some, but mostly this is your guy's thing. Thus, it's only fitting we're on the same page on a few NPCs. You are allowed to take control of the goons. However, not to any significant degree when a certain other character is present, which will be clear soon. Whenever it's kosher for you to use them, follow these guidelines:

1. Not all of them are organic, and they are all rather smart. Not running around with Tweedle A and Tweedle B here.

2. You may only take your liberties when it directly affects your character in someway. That is to say, you're not allowed to decided what they do at base or on the other side of the city.

3. My intervention is god. If something happens by my writing, it happens.

I may amend this as needed.

I'll close with a reminder to read this:

Okay. I promised this was coming, and then procrastinated and was chastised. Well, I regret none of that at ALL, since I have just drastically improved this. I wanna know what you think.

First, some backstory. So there I was, browsing http://am2r.freeforums.org/ and appreciated my custom Fire Emblem avatar I have there. So I began a train of thought, starting with Fire Emblem being an RPG I need to give more love. RPG - G = RP, of which reminded me I was procrastinating on a different forum. That reminded me of this thread, and with the character portait of General Milky fresh in mind, it made me wonder how the characters in this RP could scratch him if he wore armor, like in an FE game. Then it hit me. This needs a number system.

But, but, I also want this to be a story RP and not a poor man's tabletop game, so I brainstormed ways to have both. I think I've got it. So then, the point of this thread is for you all to unite and take Milky down? Why not promote bonding? And therein lies the system. Every character will have a static pair of stats, attack and defense, and so will Milky. So do you go out and fight monsters and such? Hell no, this ain't D&D, I ain't gonna reward you for punting squirrels. Instead, you all will have an invisible "achievement" system.

These will be feats and mile stones on a list only I will have. Each achievement will modify your character's stats, which will serve as your growth. To avoid players grinding them, I will alert people their achievements over PM, and ask that you don't speak of them until the finale, which will be the only time this number system becomes relevent. I repeat, this stat system will only matter any amount of beans in the final march. So how is this going to work?

Basically, this will be an ordinary roleplay for the most part. However, any character, solo or party, can at anytime decide to go face the evil General. If things are unfavorable, your character will almost surely die. To suit the focus on bonding, I'll tell you the formula I have in mind, using an example I already pitched to a friend.

Mark and John are hiding from a resistence sweep. The building they are in is surrounded by Milky's commandos and armed sentry bots. Should mark and John survive, they will walk away stronger, more resilient people and thus will be awarded the achievement which grants a +1 bonus to defense. But there's more, should John and Mark be in the same squad infiltrating Milky's lair, their sharing of that achievement will multiply the bonus to 2. Their bond, from surviving and experiencing hell together, strengthens their resolve to survive. Now, say if a Mary was also in the same sweep Mark and John were earlier, and also was in this squad. All three of their +1 def achievement grants them a much better +4.

The idea behind this is that experiences make people strong, but a single person can only be so much. There needs to be a bond, an emphasis on these people operating and fighting off of eachother's strength rather than their own, and the resolve to keep eachother safe makes them stronger than raw physical ability experience alone. This is why any squad attempting to fell Milky may share their collection of achievements, to apply bonuses to achievements they share. Milky's stats will be hidden to avoid breaking the immersion and turning it into a "grind until we are ready" approach. I want players to come in as a group uncertain of the outcome and connect them much like the characters themselves are.

So how will the stats themselves be used? They will be used to determine an RNG. I'm not exactly sure how I'll be doing this yet, but it'll run off percentage compared to Milky's stats. For this example's sake, say Milky has 100 defense. Any character with an atk stat of below 50% of that (say he or she has 47 attack) it'll always fail. Milky will always be unphased, dodge, or some other godmod action to nulify the attack. The opposite holds true, too. Any character with +50% will always wreck the General. There'll be a balance in between, being a 50/50 chance of success or failure at an even stat and scaling up and down from there. I don't know the exact percents or formulas I'll use yet, but it will be something along those lines.

Any questions or objections? Anything to add maybe?

For you skim readers or those easily chased off by long walls of text or complicated systems, I'll sum it up. You get secret awards through PM that will help out in the finale, which can be any time players choose with no limits. Keep these to yourself until you're ready to go for it with other players (if applicable), at which point you share with those involved. The RP is finished when someone succeeds.

Lastly, read up on some of the threads explaining how to be a decent RPer. At the very least, I expect you guys to try and write well taking everything into account. Be descriptive. The basics, you know.

There we go. I'll update this as needed.

I'm afraid this will lead to drama, so I'll do us all a favour and lock this topic. Milky, please copy and past your information into a new topic. Topic hi-jacks can't lead to anything good.
