How do you measure Time.

While driving and listening to NPR, A interesting topic came on.

How do you measure time, not in just Minutes or Hours, but how you measure it.

For example: I measure my time in How I or the World acts. I'm used to doing thing like eating at certain times of the day. Also I can tell the time by looking at the weather. Since Time and Weather are the same word in Spanish, Tiempo, I figured that also works.

Hmm. By daylight intensity I guess?

I dunno, I've always relied on my watch. Though I look at where the sun is in the sky to give me an idea, and then look at my watch for precise details.

I think High meant without the regular use of watches or clocks?

The sun or the moon, usually the latter because that's the only time I'm outside and want to know what time it is.

Hmm... Without technology...

Smart persons way (using tech): Find out the position of the earth from satallite imagery

Idiots way (using tech): Look at a clock

Smart persons way (No tech): Look at how far the sun is from the east.

Idiots way (No tech): They say "i dunno lol"

I measure time two ways, when will I get my next pay check and when do i have to fill up my gas tank. All other time is irrelevant and meant to be enjoyed.

This minus the gas-tank, because I ride a nuclear powered pony.

Time is an abstract concept that can not be measured exactly without an instrument.

So, to answer your question:

Sun is up: time to wake up.

Sun is down: time to sleep.

Sun is hot: time to go inside.

With an atomic clock of course!

If you choose your isotop well (and resist a steady flow of radiations!), you have a pretty readable time-measuring decaying pile of stuff! :P

Hmm, I think some people are misunderstanding the question. ;)

I usually, well, look at my watch…

When I don't have my watch on (rare) I usually look at the sky. Usually get a good idea of it.

But I don't do that too often…

How about "Stay awake until someone yells at you to go to bed"? That's how it's been for me lately. Other than that, I get a good idea based on how much music I listen to. The average song is about 4-5 minutes so that gives a good estimate.

....But that's tech now isn't it?!

I'll say that counts for it's not a clock.

Some said the fundamental notion of time was irrelevant in the regards of sciences. That's still arguable today.

Anyhow, for us, poor humans, the notion of time definitely has a concrete relevance, even for that dear Albert! ^_^

How to measure time? There's lots of ways.

You could measure in daylight, in sunsets, in midnights or cups of coffee. You could measure in inches, in miles, in laughter or in strife.
