No Deleting Saves

This would be in the arcade, but since it's less about the game and more about a business practice, I put it here. Move if needed.

Capcom has announced that instead of saving the Mercenaries in the usual 3DS way, they are saving to the cart and making it so you can't delete your save data, so if you want to start over and unlock everything all over again, tough. This has happened in the past with games like MRC but that was mostly lazyness and there was often ways around it. However, capcom has actually gone to effort to include this 'feature'.

Theories as to why are many, but the strongest one is that it will stop people from buying used as the game will already be completed.

This is interesting.

Now why did they want to add this "feature." Is it so you can't lose saved data or for some other reason.

They would just be subtracting from the games replay value >.>

That's what they are claiming, and given that mercenaries is little more then a high score rush, then it's not a huge deal.

However, they won't say the reason, and japanese shops won't pay much for a trade in due to the 'feature' hence the conspiresy theories.

My money is on that they'll have this feature, but somewhere hidden will be a way to delete this "unerasable" data. Plus sometimes games don't save right, the data gets corrupted. Now they can let you delete this corrupted data or simply screw you and you now have a hunk of useless, corrupted data that will make consumers rage.

Guest Mr. Nintendo

Another one of those stupid ideas Capcom has came up with since the lack of checkpoints and only 1 save file for Dead Rising.

If only Keiji Inafune was back, he would already be like "SON, I AM DISAPPOINT"

Meh, Ill believe it when i see it. Where there is a will there is a way, and some one will crack the code and let the whole world know.

For N64 games (MRC is one I had) you could use action replay which would save the game with a fresh start. A far more brute force was to use a magnet to corrupt the data and have the game reset the file.

More likely, people will just pirate the game to start fresh.

"There's always a loophole....somewhere"

Still no delete data button, is it REALLY going to be a huge problem?

I know how to fix the problem, to delete the data all you need to do is a barrel roll!

This seems to me like nothing but a crummy business move.

Whether they like to admit it or not, companies like to pull stuff like this in order to get a hand up on the consumer, in this case, making people want to buy directly from them instead of the used game shops.

No skin off my teeth though, though I love Resident Evil, and I may want Mercenaries 3D, it's pretty low on my must buy list right now.

Well it is their game, and it is there right to do with it what they want. So i cant really blame them for wanting to protect their brain child. But hey maybe they will get the message if enough people don't buy it because of that point. Doubtful though.

Oh. I know. I'll turn the game into a flea, a harmless little flea! And then, I'll put that flea in a box. And then I'll put that box inside another box, and then mail that box to myself. And when it arrives... AH HA HA HA HA, I'LL SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER!!! IT'S BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT, I TELL YOU!!! GENIUS, I SAY!!!

Or I can just poison it with THIS!

*Magnetises the game cartridge and erases the game and save*

Uh... My bad.

Anyways, knowing Capcom they probably have a feature under options to delete all save data.

Nope, that's the point.

Well, the only upside I really notice is that someone might come along and delete all your progress while you're not looking just for the evulz. I really doubt game companies are gonna care about that though, so I'll stick with the idea of them using it as getting the upper hand over used games in sales. I can't think of a single person who'd end up doing that to me though, maybe there's loons out there that get their kicks by deleting whatever saved game data they can find.
