Faisul
Well, you got me there. Implication =/= reality and all that. Good show! Do we start talking about the objectification of women in Duke games now or would that be way too freshman-year womens' studies for you guys? kkstarfox
tarting with Duke Nukem 3D in 1996 a lot of people have been calling Duke Nukem a misogynist playboy. Why? This being the original question, I believe that we have not only got off track, but derailed the train. So is or isn't Duke a misogynis and why or why not eh? ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
I'm actually fairly convinced that beneath the thin veneer of colourful, playful adventure, Super Mario is in reality the story of the Mushroom Kingdom's demented, drug-addled totalitarian ruler's cruel and random acts of murder, kidnapping, and vicious intruige. /fakepost How is Princess Peach anything like that? Or did you mean Bowser. Oh, and Land of The Babes sounds like an interesting take on the series. Did you mean the original Splatterhouse, or the remake? Faisul
How is Princess Peach anything like that? Or did you mean Bowser. Mario, actually. But I don't wanna derail further, let's just say some people have whacked out interpretations of children's video games (me included) and leave it at that. Duke as a misogynist? Hell if I know. In the game's universe, I don't think so. He's the protagonist in a setting that glorifies basically everything that some marketing guy thought dudes like, and it turns out a lot of them do. I don't know if I can fault the character himself for that. Like Vydrach said, Duke can be a chill, one-liner spouting guy when he's not kicking alien ass and chewing bubble gum. I don't really have an opinion on this, come to think of it.
Steve
As someone who played duke nukem forever (don't worry, I didn't spend money on that garbage)....the game does a REAL bad job trying to make Duke look cool. Women are seem like objects and Duke doesn't even care too much, yeah, he goes all rampage because his "babes" got kidnapped, but then really goes all "eh whatever, lol" when he finds out the girls were all alienized. Duke was kinda cool before, but this? seriously, game makes women seem stupid, and all men either are rednecks or mentally challenged. Game revolves around making Duke look like god, and everyone around him are either stupid or hookers. So yeah, I can't believe they released that piece of garbage, and I can't believe it sold so much, oh well, hype goes, hype leaves.
Vy'drach
Did you mean the original Splatterhouse, or the remake? Sorry I was tardy to the party on this post, but the original. About the area where you first get the harpoons, and there's also what happens to his girlfriend in that game, then in Splatterhouse 3, I believe, depending on how well you do, you can either save her in time, or if you fail to beat a certain boss, she is devoured from the inside out and becomes a mindless monstrosity. You say duke was cool before, but was he any different? The N64 version removed alot of stuff, but the PC and PS1 games he was pretty much the same. Steve
I was talking about the n64 version, not the other games. Should have stated that.
