Come on, we just narrowly avoided one catastrophe with laws on video gaming, and here comes another.

Every single time any bill in the U.S. that has had any sort of censorship power over video games has been drafted, it's been shot down so hard every other bill took splash damage. This one will be no different. Can't even enforce it, anyways.

This bill will never pass.

Well, now I have an excuse to take down my poorly voiced Machinimas...

Trust me,they'll recognize how wrong this bill is and get rid of it.

If not, I won't be responsible for my actions. *locks onto Jack Thompson* I've been waiting years for this.

You are always responsible for your actions.

You know how it is, if the drugged up witches that live on top of Mount Doom say it's a good idea, they'll do it.

And it's all you guy's fault you know. If you didn't want this bill you shouldn't have voted for Obama 2 years ago. Foresight people!

What are you talking about, there are no witches on Mount Doom. You've successfully combined two stories, well done

This isn't the Pulpit Pub. We should probably keep political discussion away, or get this topic moved there.

Hell, it should probably be there anyway.

Outside political discussion the only thing you can really do is rage.

And that's why I say we should probably get this topic moved, because Lord knows raging at this is just pointless >_>

Here it is. If you hate it that much, you should protest. That's why they invented protests.

Or you could do what I do and become a terrorist.

Um, what? I'm sorry, but that post isn't making much sense to me :/

You know, protest?

MC_042210protest.jpg

Just about every forum I'm a member of is raging about this bill so I think it's unpopular enough to start a protest movement.

I was more referring to the whole

Here it is.

Part. I understand what a protest is :P

Perhaps I'm just not braining well because it's 6:40 AM here.

The bill is summarized thusly:

Makes unauthorized web streaming of copyrighted content a felony with a possible penalty of up to 5 years in prison. Illegal streaming of copyrighted content is defined in the bill as an offense that "consists of 10 or more public performances by electronic means, during any 180-day period, of 1 or more copyrighted works" and has a total economic value, either to the copyright holder or the infringer, of at least $2,500.

The ratifications are designed so that copyright is protect from web streaming. That is not going to hurt or hinder any game businesses like Games Stop or what not. All it is doing is keeping some internet/ meme pop star from producing youtube videos. The internets, which is global community, is kinda hard to regulate. I doubt this will pass, but if it does I think it is a fair deal. What if you produced a game? Would you want all your hard work thrown to the winds? This is pertaining to not only games, but videos, and many other media. This is ratifying a bill that has ALREADY PASSED, and making the punishment a little more clear cut and severe. To me its not a bad idea from the private business perspective.

And a further point, if you wanted to use a copy righted song or bit of video game, you could always get permission. Now there's an idea.

Guest Mr. Nintendo

Problem with that is let's say I wanted to review Battlefield 3 and for some parts, I'm going to use footage from the game and some Linkin Park's IN THE END as music for part of the review.

If I send an email to EA requesting that it's OK for me to use Battlefield 3 gameplay fooages, they won't respond unless your game was glitched up or broken.

I'm sure I'll probably get a response from WMG or Linkin Park but VG companies like EA, Tecmo...whatever, I'm sure they'll just ignore it and continue their busniesses.

So while the economy falls to pieces, they're trying to stop people from streaming TV, games, etc.

I love this country so much.

The GOP and Dems have been trying to solve the ecomony for quite some time now with no real success and August 2nd is fast approaching. Furthermore, they use committees to discuss whether or not to attempt to develop and pass laws such as this video game one so yeah they can discuss the ecomony and video games (among tons of other things) at the exact same time using different groups of people.
