By now people are aware of the heat that's gripped the continent over the past few weeks and shows no signs of letting up. Normally I'm an advocate of getting younger folks like Milkyway outside for some exercise that all kids so desperately need nowadays but in this case it's obviously more dangerous to be outside than in.

Anyways, if you have any comments or stories you'd like to share concerning the triple digit temperatures post them up! :) There's been a couple of news stories already about people who have died overnight due to their AC breaking down or something.

Guess what? It's only 21-23^c (70-75^F) here in the Seattle area. Very comfortable, not too hot, not too cold. Just right. :8-):

Have fun burning to death.

It's 90 F right now in Toronto at 6:25 pm but it feels like 106 F with the heat index factored in. Thursday seems to be the hottest day for the rest of week with it getting up to 97 F with a humidity of 115 F.

Good thing I'll be in Vegas to get away from this heat...oh wait...THERE IS NO ESCAPE!

Reminds me of the good ol' southern days when I lived down near New Orleans. I left pretty much after Katrina, due to family reasons. But currently residing in New York, its kinda fun to watch all the people complain about the brutal heat here even though its like 80-90; its not to bad to me.

For others it is kinda hot, so I can understand. Now when winters come around oh god...... I can't wear shorts like many of the other kids do.. I saw one kid wearing a t-shirt and flip-flops in a snow storm... I was like WTH..

I rode my bike to the library today. I wasn't as sweaty as I usually was though, probably because of the wind. But it was still freaking hot out and it doesn't help that there are several small rises on the way to the library.

Heh, I guess you can say us northerners have adapted to the cold. :P

I walked in the hard heat all the way to work and back, without sweating...

LIKE A BOSS!

This isn't uncommon for people from northern Ontarian who come down to Toronto during our winters. They laugh at how Torontoians bitch about the snow and temperatures when they get 3 times as much snow and temperatures 20 degrees colder. I agree with them completely.

I don't see why people are complaining about the heat so much. It's the summer. It comes with the season.

And *GASP* in the winter it gets... COLD!!! :o

This just in! It's hot this summer!... Yeah... it's a slow news day...

Seems like a pretty normal summer to me. Guess it depends on the area. But yes, it is hot, because it's summer. :P

I've pretty much decided I'm flying south to Mexico for the summers :P It's currently a nice 77 degrees here. With nice breezes and clouds and happiness. Even still, in my native Alabama, it's only 84 :P Not bad. Coolest summer ever, I would consider for home.

It's always weird to see expressions such as "a nice 77 degrees" or "it's only 84" when you're not used to Fahrenheit! :P

Deploy> Well apparently, it's not for quite a bunch of people! XD

You guys think you've got it bad. Here in St. Louis, it'll be in the high 90s all week and 80s in the evenings. And on Wednesday, 100 degrees.

And that is not including the humidity increasing the temperature

It was 114 F with the dew point here yesterday. This heat wouldn't bother me nearly as much if it didn't cause me so much pain.

Guest Mr. Nintendo

It's not so hot in Portland right now as it probably was 1 week ago.

Currently, it's 72º where I am and last week, it was about 83º-90º. But heat doesn't scare me though because it doesn't like me when I am hot-headed. (OK, puns intended...:hehe:)

"In Chicago, city officials said a half-dozen cooling centers would remain open this week, as temperatures as high as 105 were forecast in Illinois."

ffff... No kidding.

97deg is an average temp for Texas. We've surpassed 110F here this year.

This is a huge (area wise) heat wave that we haven't see this "bad" for at the very least the last 5 years. It's affecting more than half of the U.S. states and most of the Canadian population as well. Crops will be ruined, people might not have enough water, People have died in their sleep or been injured due to highways buckling over this so yes, it very well is news worthy.

At least it's "refreshing" to listen to instead of daily news on how the U.S. can't figure out their debt problems. <_<

The humidex (which is what Canadian meteorologists use) got to around 115 F yesterday and for the rest of the week (excluding today) it will be just as bad). Personally I don't mind the extreme heat though.

Only Americans use Fahrenheit anyways...

Having been to Portland twice it never really gets hot there on a long term basis. It's like Vancouver, relatively nice year round with no extremes in either direction.

I'm in Chicago itself. Today the heat is utterly merciless, I'm in my bedroom with a window AC unit going full blast and it's still not enough to take the edge of heat out of here.

For me, everything is going to get even hotter. Theres supposedly a heat wave thats going to be going on until the end of Thursday and it is going to be approximately 105 degrees. What makes it even worse is that our refrigerator has been having problems and most of our drinks have gone bad. Good thing the freezer is still working.
