Phantasy Star Online 2 got announced plus trailer. I liked the first one despite never taking it online. The good news is that it's made by the developers as the original, the bad news is that developer is sonic team, makers of such classics as Sonic Free Riders as well as all the bad Phantasy Star games since PSO.

It gets worse. It looks like they are ripping off monster hunter with massive monsters that take entire squads of guys to bring down. While PSO had a bit of that, that's not what made the game great. It's also a PC game, putting up against segas own excelent free MMO Spiral Knights which has a similar theme and recaptures alot of what made PSO so great.

So, when it comes out later this year (it's about to go into invite only beta) it's going to be Jelly Knight vs RaCast, at least for me anyway, and to be honest, Jelly Knight seems to have it won. Unless Sega does something really special anyway.

Played the free demo on PC and the "Modem-patched" Gamecube version at a friend's.

I hope they don't screw this one up! :x

I'm not sure how the new Phantasy Star will hold up since Sonic Team is the developer and they haven't been doing much. (Getting Sonic back on his roots doesn't count.)
