FiM and SFO

Alright, I'm doing a survey to see the opinions of everyone around and how they see FiM in general. So yeah, I hope most of the active users do vote.

Ahem, n00b entering the discussion, exactly what is FiM? I've been seeing it around the site lately but still have no idea what it consists of.

It's a Flash cartoon headed by Lauren Faust that has taken the internet by storm.

Known for it's smooth, detailed animation, likeable characters, and alluringly innocent atmosphere while avoiding all the things that makes girly shows bad.

Anyhow, I like it, and nowhere does anything ever say that we can't have multiple fandoms here. Just as we're allowed to talk about Metroid, Zelda, and so on, we can talk about MLP. If it gets to spam-level, then it is spam and should be dealt with. I'd say it's okay for it to show up around the place as long as it doesn't hijack topics.

I would like to see more pony related talking in general, but this is SF-O, and I would not like to see it to the point of consistent hijacking. Though I do agree with Psygonis that Ponies in arwings, blasting a ponified Andross would be awesome.

That depends greatly on where you come from.

As an animation/tv fan. It's a cartoon for kids that has widespread acclaim for it's good writing and being the first animated show in a long time to be actually worth watching. The gist is a character driven show with a moral of the week. The show has various faults. The animation is one, due partly to the need for animation to be cheap and fast these days. Others are much more subjective. It is by no means a classic, but worth your time if your into character based series.

It became a problem when the 4chan types picked it up as a meme, soon any reasonible discussion about the show died. If you check the threads, they almost instantly turn into meme spams and flame wars. So by that messure it's just another meme.

I have further info on it. Ignore -everything- Sabre says, as he's not watched the show or really done anything about it other than stroking his hateboner for 4chan. His opinion is thus biased and skewed with bitter rage and as such reasonable conclusions and opinions on his end have died.

I'm not sure that's possible. I think the show itself is ok and yet the idiot fanboys claim I hate it. Anything short of fanatical devotion = hate to those people.

I hear/see reasonable discussions of the show all the time.

And everyone gets tired of how much you despise 4Chan, NOT how you despise or don't despise FiM. Pay attention.

It isn't out of control yet, so I don't see why this poll even exists. We have two topics and a couple of users have adopted avatars and sigs of it, but that's no worse than Mr N's Ayane sigs and avatars. (Her name is Ayane, right? I'm doing it off memory)

it should spread as much as the interest for it allows. If every member of SF-O ends up liking FiM, then what would be the harm of FiM stuff popping up in nearly every topic. Not derailing the topic, mind you, but using it for references and responses.

My main beef is the complaint that it's a "disease". What is it about 3 topics that make it a disease? It's well contained to those three topics as well, unlike some other things. For example, we have at least 3 topics about the Wii U alone, when they just as easily could've been contained to one relevant topic, like the pony topics are. Another example: the sheer amount of topics we have that talk about Sonic.

What makes it a "disease" is really just the blithering antics of the scant few that cannot comprehend a group of people liking something that they do not. Yet funnily enough the only argument they can consistently form against it is "baaawww it's too popular".

I like MLP, but I wouldn't consider myself a brony. I see nothing wrong with people continuing to express their liking of it so long as it doesn't derail or intrude on other topics, and even then, that applies to anything unrelated to the original topic.

In the end, Friendship is Magic should be handled like any other non-Star Fox series here on the forums. Just don't make a trillion topics about it, but talk about it as much as you please within the topics created.

Lolwut, I never stated that I liked the show and I was part of the fandom. I'm not even a Brony but still, I don't hate them at all...I just don't care about them nor their fandom because it means little to me. (Unless Xortberg spams me with his messages saying I must join. )
