World Record Ability

Another day, another "gaming world record smashed!" and, just like all previous times, nerd rage follows.

Simply put, these record attempts pop up, usually sponcered by some magazine, website or game company. but my problem is ability. Name any game, genre or series, it can be it's own record and be 'smashed' without difficulty.

One said record was the record for longest stealth game marathon, also being streamed on the internet (I wont link it as that is what they want) and tuning in I saw that he was playing Metal Gear Solid 2 on the easiest mode, and being really bad at it, while also talking about stealth games and displaying his shocking lack of knowledge on the subject. I hate stealth games and yet even I know more than him and could play better than him, and yet I assume he brushed up on his stealth game knowledge before hand, I would've.

This is my problem with these record attempts. They take 0 skill on the part of the person breaking the record. If you can sit in a chair and press buttons, you are qualified to be listed in the book of world records.

There are some gaming records that would in fact be worthy records, such as beating the first level of Duke Nukem 3D in less than seven seconds (I could only do it in 11), or the most consecutive jumps in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and beating the game Fallout in less than fifteen minutes.

But yeah, genre specific marathon runs are generally easy records.

Try a Tetris marathon, you'll see if it's an easy record! :P

Depends on what kind of ‘‘records’’ we're talking about.

Major video game records sites such as Cyberscore and Video Game Records are well known and fun to compete on, but they're usually for high scores.

Things like playing through stealth games for hours, ‘‘how long can I play this game without moving?’’, etc are stupid. I agree.

I'm not sure what the topic of this thread is…?

I find game marathons to be just silly. It's more a test of patience and bladder-capacity than any actual skill.

I actually have the Norwegian record on event match 25 in SSBM, "Gargantuans". Want to say it was skills, but I was for the most part just lucky.

Do games world records take skill. Also related stuff like the bias on who can apply for them and what records should exsist.

It's not even that, because they get a 5-10 minute break an hour for food and toilet and that kind of thing.
