The Confrontation

"Holy ****!", they just fired at us!", Pheonix 3 exclaimed as he got his Jet back into formation.

"Pipe-down and stay in formation 3.", Pheonix Lead ordered,"They fired first, but don't give you're hopes up. If they do that again, you'll get first bite, copy?"

"*sigh*, load and clear sir."

Stacker kept a balled fist where his chin would have been, had been human, and kept his ears glued to the radio chatter and the screens of the UAVs and city recoding cameras.

They better now mess-up.....

"Pheonix Squad, you have permission to engage at your discression," he quiclkly thought of the airmen, not wanting them to lose thier lives needlessly,"Don't take any unnecessary risks, over.", Stacker ordered.

"Copy that sir, we'll do our best, out!"

Cupelo fitted the headset on, and spoke.

"To the fighter wing trailing us: identify yourself, immediately."

"To the fighter wing trailing us, Identify yourselves.", the voice from the fighter said. Seemingly being demanding when they weren't at liberty to demand anything.

The Vulpine looked to a communitcations officer,

"Patch me through to that frequency, now.", Stacker ordered.

WIth a few adjustments and buton pressing, the officer turned and handed him a headset," You're on sir."

"To the unknown craft, you are violating the government sanctioned No-Fly Zone law. These fine Gentlemen will escort you to a nearby airbase, where you will be questioned for your violation. You will either comply, or be fired upon, as you didn't hesitate you fire on us, over.", Stacker explained, knowing already that these had to be rebels; for who would fly in unauthorized airspace?

"I am aware of the no-fly-zone," Cupelo answered, "and you'll have to excuse my somewhat excitable pilot. Things haven't exactly gone according to plan..."

The older fox seemed to switch timbre, from a haughty high-strung voice, to a solid, official tone never heard from him yet.

"This is Central Intelligence agent Serge Noire, Identifier code: Theta-Mu-Five-Seven. Run the audio through your superior, do whatever checks you need to, and then we'll talk."

There was silence on Stacker's end, he was wide-eyed with surprise,

What the hell? A Central Intelligence agent? Working with the rebels? What is rogue or something?, he thought to himself, mind racing.

He struggled on what to do, whihc wasn' good becasue almost half the sentients in the room were looking in direction for orders.

"Patch me through agin please.", he said almost in a whisper,

"If that...if that were true,", he almost wanted not talk at all,"Then why are you even amongst these...these sewer rats in the first place?! How do I-we, know its not a trick? Answer that!", he unknowingly yelled in the comm.

He stopped a moment to calm down,

"I will not let you simply waltz around the sky-way, like some theme park. Now you either allow us to escort you, or I will not hesitate to end you and your career. Permenantly. Do you understand?", he said with a dash of a threat in his voice.

"Go ahead and try it you damned jarhead, and I can assure you Director G herself and your superiors will have you court-marshaled, discharged, and possibly executed for killing one of Intel's finest veteran agents during an operation." the older fox returned with solid, yet irritated conviction

"You listen here soldier and listen good, I was trying to make a subtle exit in pursuit of the very same rebels you tried to get a lock-down on; the telepath girl, the sniper, the crazy medic, and their guardian angel thief; because they managed to slip away just before the no-fly-zone was put in effect. My associate assured me he could get past undetected, but clearly not; a testament to cloak detection technologies and strategies."

Cupelo/Serge let out a particularly aggravated sigh.

"Now, here's what you're going to do: you're going to stand down your flyboys before the whole city freaks out, you're going let me through, but you are not going to call off the no-fly zone, as doing so would alert my target; I need your forces down here to appear preoccupied, understand? And if you're still insecure about all this, simply route the audio of my name and ID code to your superior, and they'll cross check it with my voiceprint in the Intelligence database. Have I made myself clear enough for you?"

THe bluish Fox frowned/snarled to himself,

rrr....he's right...I'd probably be excecuted....worse if sanfor has his way with me....*sigh*...another time perhaps....another time...

"Call them off.", Stacker whispered, left gloved paw supporting his forehead.

A comm officer looked at him in disbelief, "what sir-"

The Vulpine's only answer was the discharge of a Desert Eagle, and the bloody entrails of the ensign all over his station.

Stacker sighed with satisfaction, and holstered the smoking weapon,

"Understood.....sir.", he winced a bit at the word,"Phoenix....stand down. You boys'll have fun another day, out."

*The four Aerospace fighters veared away from the fleeing craft in unison*

Regaining his calm composure, he turned to see a room of jaw dropped, or wide-eyed soldiers, some staring at the carnage he had inflicted.

"I want those men debriefed when they get back-", Pete looked at the body and scattered entrails, an evil toothy grin on his face,"Someone clean that up."

With that, he left the room, automatic door shuting behind him...

A few minutes later, Sanford's transport has arrived at Stacker's location. He stepped out of the transport and spoke. "Alright, I must see Lieutenant Stacker, this is an urgent matter so I must not be kept waiting." He said to a nearby sergeant under Stacker's command.

"Y-yes sir, right this way.", the Sergeant studdered a bit. He seemed nervous.

As he lead the Reptilian through the base, not many sentients looked up from their work. Those who did quickly glanced back to their stations, not saying a word.

It all seemed a bit.."off"

After the Phoenix's left Alex continued to fly out of the planet's atmosphere. When a good distance away, he turned and held a gun " So your a CIA agent. Hmm, should have known."

He had a tight fist ready to fire. "See, I don't work well with feds." He said with an unsure tone.

Star soon enough got up and walked up to Savior

"anything come up while i was asleep? we need to keep a watchful eye on that door, otherwise its game over for us" Star said in a serious tone

"besides, getting captured wouldn't be very fun now would it?" she added

"See, I don't work well with feds." He said with an unsure tone.

"Neither do I, as it turns out." Cupelo/Serge responded, unintimidated by the firearm in his face. "I'll offer you a chance to explain myself, but you could easily dismiss anything I say as a lie, and rightly so. Since you can't trust my words, then trust in my actions: I just lied to military men to keep you from getting shot out of the sky, I brought Star and Savior back to you where you would've been alone, and I risked my own life to get them out of the mess in the mall, even killing a few soldiers in the process. I'm on your side."

"For now, we still have a task to do: get the alias documents for you and Star."

Soldiers in Sanford's wake appeared to cower at his presence. He thought nothing off it and continued to Stacker. "Alright Peter, while at HQ I noticed a ship taking off in violation of the laws I placed. I tried to radio you but for some reason I couldn't get a hold of you. So seeing as you are here I can only assume that you have shot down the ship right?" Sanford asked his lieutenant.

Alex twiddled his fingers a bit. "Your lucky that your right." he said putting down the firearm, and continued flying.

"We all do things for money, that's how I got in this mess." he said in a melancholy tone. "Blood spilled and bodies fallen, that's all."

"I hope you don't mind, but I have a travel mix playlist." He said holding up a memory chip.

The Fox looked up to see the door open with Sanford standing in the doorway, asking a question about if the ship was shot down.

A fit of rage erupted in his being, and punched the wall, leaving a small dent,

"No, I didn't shoot down the ****ing ship! They got away, and there was nothing I could do about it god damn it! If i get a hold of that man who ordered me to stand down, I will skin him alive, and Feed him his own eyes!", the Blusih Fox snarled.

Doing his best to calm down, he hopped on a computer and loghed into "Mission Data" and opened up the recoded. Voice samples and footage were visable.

"Thewre you go...sir. Thats what happened."

After listening to the sound clips of the situation, one of Sanford's mechanical eyes twitched under his concealing sunglasses.

"This is a joke right?" He said after listening. Then he saw the anger on Peter's face. "You're serious. You actually believed that the man on the recording was an agent of ours?!" Sanford said with rage growing in his voice. "The name alone should have given you the hint that he was a fake!" He yelled in anger.

"I hope you don't mind, but I have a travel mix playlist." He said holding up a memory chip.

"I've never been much of a music person, so I doubt you're going to have anything that'll bug me too much."

"I even offered to escort him or be shot doon and he got the better of me, with all due respect sir,"e chose his words carefully,"What would you have done, if you had been in my boots?" Stakcer caustiously queried.

"Well lieutenant I would have known that the name Serge Noire is the name of a perfume and not that of an operative and that his identification code is outdated!" Sanford yelled seething with rage. "Do you have any idea how hard it's going to be talking us out of this?! The general could have us all executed for this!" He yelled once more.

Stacker shuddered at the thought,"W-well...where could they even go? We have everything under survelliance, military checkpoints, security stations...i even enacted Martial law, just make sure citizens were out of the way..."

He pondered a moment,"They'd have to land eventually, for fuel I mean, We could have ground Support craft and death squads go on the hunt for them...?"

Oh my god....these rebels are far more clever than I anticipated....

Sanford was not comforted with Peter's observation.

"Why do you think that this resistance still exists? Because there are places in this system that we can't observe. They could be halfway across the system by now and there is nothing we can do about it." Sanford replied. "Now all we can do is try to capture the other two and hopefully that will be enough to save us from death." Sanford said.

Stacker sighed in defeat, he right.....we need to find those others....or we will be the ones who will want to flee the system...

Meanwhile....

A Cypher over in its patrol path, scanning buildings with thermal vision, looking for anthing tha might be deemed suspicious.

Ttas when it spotted an old abandoned looking building, with two life readings within!

"H-hey, I think I got something!", the UAV operator announced, and a Wolf with the look of authroity strolled over adjusting his patrol cap.

"What do have, son?", the Lupine asked.

"Two life froms in a building said to be abandoned a few months ago....", the operator repled.

The Wof pondered the comment,"I think Stacker may want to see this...."

As Peter and Sanford were finishing their conversation, another soldier cam in and wanted to see Peter about something. "What's this about soldier?" Sanford asked the man as he entered.

Alex plugged the memory stick in and played some tunes.

"Just a word of advice," Alex said. "We are now closing in on the most cruelest planet ever colonized. You won't find a man, woman or child that hasn't been shot and lived to tell the tale. So keep your eyes peeled."

Then the monitor flashed red. "Well here we are. 40 parsecs from Cornelia, I give you Katina." They ascended into a patch of flat land outside the town. "You ready?" said Alex in an excited tone.

"We uh...found something you two might want to check out.", the wolf beckoned,"Two strange life signs in an abandoned building somehwere in the industrial sector."

The Fox looked up, feeling a bit better,"Now's our chance for redemption. Show us."

"Yes sir.",the Wolf acknowledged as he led the way to the UAv operator room.
