Sabre
It's official. Silent Hill is now dead and exsists only to milk money from fanboys. See, the trailer for the latest game is out. Coming to PS Vita, it's a top down co-op dungeon crawler. As the trailer said "No need to worry as there will be a special appearence by everyones favourite monster who walks softly and carries a big knife." Personally, even as a none fan, I don't think they could miss the point so much with turning 180 and firing directly into the crowd. Maybe it's pulling a resident evil and branching out, but I think a horror top down dungeon crawler would be better served with a new IP. Maybe the magic book of memories came from eBay like that book in Dying Inside.

Redeemer
I don't like the multiplayer idea, but I'd still play this for the story. I'm addicted to Silent Hill.
Tailsz
I'm addicted to Silent Hill. Guess those catch phrases! "..The hell?" "Have you seen a little girl? Short, black hair. Just turned 8 last month..." "Mary?" "[insert potty mouth]" The only one who doesn't have a catch phrase was Heather... Anyways, a "top down dungeon crawler" with Silent Hill characters? This is definitely a departure from a traditional Silent Hill game. Especially since it focuses on cooperative team play. Although the story intrigues me... Silent Hill series always have good storylines. Although a book that has your life written in it and when you write in it reminds me of something... Dunno what. It's not silent hill characters, unless you make one I suppose. That's the plot of the never ending story.
Nope.
Well, if we think of it as some kind of spin-off, we'll be fine. Who am I kidding? BRB raging for 40 minutes.
Matrilwood
Traditional survival horror is a dying genre. Modern gamers don't have the patience to go back and forth through the same areas, so it's not as popular (Lower popularity equals lower sales, you know how it is with these commercial types) But don't worry independent developers like Frictional Games (The creators of Amnesia: Dark Descent) will still make these sorts of games because the independent game industry isn't as competitive, and cares more about making a good game than raw statistics. I disagree about that for a few reasons, but there is one thing in particular that is wrong and I feel I have to correct. While you can argue popularity and market trends, saying that the indie scene isn't as competitive and is all about making good games over mass market crap is wrong. For a start, have you been around the indie scene? You hear about the breakout hits like Minecraft and Amnesia but if you want an example of typical indie quality unfiltered. Look on Xbox Live Indies. It's all crap. Steam, XBLA, and other such indie services actually have strict quality standards. Also, while indie games are cheaper and quicker to make allowing for more risks, sales are just as important. The difference is big games sell on advertising and playing it safe to maximize their minimum user base, whereas indies try to increase their maximum player base by playing to a niche. Amnesia is at least the 3rd game in that series, or at very least run on the same engine and formula. They found a niche and will milk it as much as possible. When the teats run dry, they will try something else.
kkstarfox
I'm waiting for the HD reboot that they are doing of a few of the Silent Hill games. That looks like a ton of fun.

It isn't really considered a reboot. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/08/17/silent-hill-hd-collection-coming-to-xbox-360-alongside-ps3.aspx
Sabre
If you remake any SH game, why 2 and 3? I get 2 is a classic, but I prefer 1, and it has some really bad graphics in places. The run animation being one, and the size of his hands that he could use to club zombies to death with.
