Krystal is a major character in the game and has more holes than a fishnet, as Dras stated, and continues to be so for the rest of the series. Dras has done a decent job of defending Krystal which kind of stuns me, but it really only holds true while looking at Adventures as a standalone game.

I'm not so much "defending" her as I am acknowledging her canonical setup in the game, rickety as it may be. And no, Krystal's status of Mysterious Moon Princess still infiltrates the later games through her bullshit psychic powers. It's weak, but it's there. I don't even mind her being a cooky tribal moon princess, I just wish they'd gone more in-depth about Cerinia and her culture.

But you cannot deny. It was a good GAME!

Actually, lots of people can deny this. Many found it to be a repetative, boring Zelda-clone that brought nothing new to the table and they became quite sick of the fetch quests after a while. Personally, I thought it was an entertaining little romp but I won't deny that aspects of the gameplay were lacking as well.

You're doing the equivalent of defending a really terrible Syfy original movie just because its special effects were nice, or you thought the lead actress was hot.

"It's just a video game" also does not fly anymore. The US Government recognized games as an art form not too long ago, so it's not outlandish to take them in as such.

Oh hey look, you listed a ton of things and threw ponies in there as a sort of counter. Ready for the difference between all that, yeah?

-It was fucking explained.-

The shrugponies were just there so I could get across the "Eh" attitude. And actually, none of what I listed was explained because I made it all up, I was not referring to any particular situation in a game, but situations that if they came up, I would accept as being plausible and would not question.

And the entire point I've been trying to make is that someone in tribal apparel isn't guaranteed to be ignorant to technology. Wasn't trying to explain or fill in her backstory at all. Just that when the game got to the point that it revealed she knew how to pilot a space ship, my reaction was, "Oh, she can fly a spaceship. Ok, I see no problems with that."

I don't care what some people say about Adventures, I like it. I think people focus way too much on the story aspect of the game. And yes, it created Krystal, yes, a lot of people don't like her or her fans. But like her or not, she is here in the series now, so quit bitching about it as it won't change anything. In my opinion she was an interesting character concept that was executed very poorly. But I still like her, and that's not the furry in me talking, I didn't even know what a furry was until I came here.

Yes Adventures was a rushed mess when it came to story, sure it seems very out of place within the Star Fox canon, and it all boils down to the fact that it was converted to a different series and a new platform at the last minute. Not one of Nintendo's better decisions.

But you cannot deny. It was a good GAME! Not a good story, but a good GAME! That's what it boils down to for me. The story may not have been very good, but it was a good GAMING experience that was fun to play. The staff combat was a bit of a challenge when it came to the bigger Sharpclaws, especially the ones with shields, and the puzzles and exploration of areas wasn't that bad at all, especially the Krazoa Tests. The graphics were beautiful for the time, and the environments were varied and well detailed.

This game remains one of my favorites because it was a fun GAME to play, not my favorite story, but one of my favorite GAMES!

(For readers, notice my emphasis on the word GAME!)

Compelling argument. You totally skipped over the arguments for forgettable soundtrack, bland combat thanks in part to little to no enemy variety, and easy puzzles that always boil down to just using your most recent staff upgrade, huh.

The soundtrack was quite nice I thought.

I mean, not very Starfoxish (except the re-arrangements for the actual Starfoxish parts of the game! :P), but still rather pleasant.

If you compare it to the soundtrack of Star Fox 64 3DS, I know what I'd put on my playlist first... ^^'

FYI, for anyone who wonders why my last post was somewhat... lacking, I'm only kind of scanning the topic, and I just so happened to agree with SFR when I saw his post. Thus, I quoted him and said "this."

Really, I was just concuring with a fellow SF fan in a topic of some interest to me. I quite enjoy Adventures. It is one of my top SF games, with Assault and 64 being 1/2 and 3 respectivley.

For me, the graphics were excellent, the soundtrack moving, and the adventure great fun. I quite enjoy wielding the Staff and doing sweet combos with it, and I never quite get bored with the game et al. For me, Adventures is a game I simply cannot put down.

adventures was a good game, but it did have its faults. for some reason alot of people get butt hurt and rage the game was terrible because the developers made a few mistakes but to me it takes little to nothing away from game play

So far all I see is more Krystal raging. How many dang times has that been done on this site. Some say she is good, others hate her. Will they reboot several years of game play and games? I doubt it. BUt they could make a good game with a good plot to fix the holes and shore up lacking character. However, even star fox 64 did not have much story or character development. All of team Star Fox are a bunch or archetypes. It is our job, as players, to fill in the gaps how we like so we can enjoy the game in our own devising.

Kinda true... But it's hard to tell about plot holes and other facts in SFAdventures without mentioning Krystal...

True, but as Milky pointed in some shoutbox talk, it fits the pace of the game. Story-driven action/platform games such as Zelda... or SFAdventures should have a consistent storyline, because the signature of that kind of game is its ambiance. And it's awkward to have such obvious incoherences all along the game when you try to get "into" it... :/

^That. Adventures is a totally new genre and is expected to have a plot of some type. 64 being an arcade shooter has no such obligation and can get away with it.

Adventures needed consistency, and Krystal is the weakest block in it right below the planet itself. Self contained, I could roll with it all. As it came out, there's too many things that need an explanation that there simply isn't one for.

Fun fact: Star Fox 64 had a more distinctive character arc than Adventures did

edit okay I will elaborate

KK, there is a distinct difference between having a streamlined, effective plot and a super incoherently cobbled-together mess of a plot in terms of "fill in the blanks".

There wasn't a lot of plot complexity in SF64 and there didn't need to be, as it boiled down to "shoot the guy to win" in a classic good versus evil war setting. Adventures was full of (attempted) complexity in terms of needing the special stones to stop the magical force of the ancient planet from exploding by the hands of the evil general who's actually being controlled by the ghost of the main villain who's harnessing the power of the eldritch gods through some blue chick because she is pure of heart to bring himself back to life as a statue and also there are dinosaurs

And there is no character progression on top of that

Star Fox 64 had us wondering about backstory and world because we were interested. Adventures has us wondering about backstory and world because very little that is presented makes actual sense.

but all of that just boils down to "collect the things to win"

also known as "every Rare game ever"

Yeah... The same way than SF64 is just about shooting things. But the ambiance and storyline do not affect the player the same way in a Space Shooter game, and in an Action/Adventure game... That was the point.

In the former, the absence of it is alright, not in the latter... That was the point.

Well you seem to of misunderstood me, then, as this was not what I was doing. I was just merely disagreeing with... I believe it was Emperoroflylat's *double checks* Yep, emperoroflylat's assumption that someone in tribal apparel would be on the same level technologically as the Mayans. Nothing more.

I wasn't talking about gameplay. I was responding to this:

It is our job, as players, to fill in the gaps how we like so we can enjoy the game in our own devising.

Adventures attempted to have ~PLOT TWISTS~ and ~DRAMA~ and was miserable at it, 64 really didn't, its plot was more functional in its simplicity. Again, it interested us because it presented us with a solid premise, rather than confuse us with plot holes.

Whenever I was in the palace, I fell asleep. To me, the music was memorable, but the fighting music I hated, because It came randomly.

Starfox Adventures (GameCube): It was a good game, but not as good as Starfox 64 (once again, in my opinion). My personnel favorite. Compared to the other games, the graphics were on the top of the list. The gameplay consisted of maximum ground missions and minimum flight combat. This game also introduced a new character known as Krystal. Game plot was strong, but not to strong. Many unknown facts were found, and many questions were asked. I think this game was relesed before its time. A few more years of work may have produced a better game.

Double post, off-topic (we talk about SFAdventures only in this thread) and Starfox on Atari had nothing to do with Nintendo's Starfox series, aside the fact that because the name was copyrighted, Starfox on SNES was released in Europe and Australia as Starwing and Starfox 64 as Lylat Wars... :/

EDIT: There still is the double-post! :troll:

You had it coming to you, honestly. But its better to be warned then banned no? Well any who, carry on with your fan worship of Star Fox Adventures. If you really like the game, don't let others dissuade you of that fact. However, it would be a good idea to logically defend your posistion rather then just acted like youve been attacked/ injured.

er, i see little point in getting upset over the game, it was good. Defiantly not would it could have been. But as long as you don't have OCC the little plot blotched shouldn't bother you to the point of proclaiming a game as horrible

edit: and adventures wasn't a failure compared to many Nintendo games it was a hit, AND was the fastest selling game of its day

As a matter of fact Vydrach, I do see the logic in your claims and that I was too quick to judge a civilization by their outfits. But as far as Krystal's outfit goes, it just doesn't seem like the sort of thing a nation of space travelers would wear. The Yautja while an advanced civilization, act as warriors and hunters as their civilization suggests, Krystal however did not act like her outfit suggests and instead acted like an adventure who happens to own a spaceship. Once more though, I may be overlooking her as even that. Perhaps she wears these things because no one says otherwise or because Sauria is a tropical planet and she wanted to dress for the occasion. But really all I want to say here is that I do agree with your claim.

You kinda raise a point there. We don't really know for how long she had been on/around Sauria when SFAdventures begins... So maybe her outfit just actually matches Sauria's ambiance and her "original" outfit is closer to her SFAssault suit.

I think it's far less "Krystal's super serious way of life and cultural customs have dictated that she dress in this specific golden bikini to represent her role as a space warrior as she traverses the galaxy" and more "hey we should make her all tribal looking and have her be from space, that's cool, right?"

agreed, the tribe thing also suits the sauria feel
