I was just wondering how many of you are moving away from your parents' place this year. Living alone for the first time is tough, so I was going to make a thread for you who need help, which will include tips on saving money and cheap but tasty student recipes to keep you well fed and healthy.

Let me know what you want to see, and I'll type it. I've been living alone for 4 years now and I'm a total pro. :troll:

I've been living by myself for over a year but recipes would be helpful, I sustain myself on cereal and imitation crab sandwiches x_x

I moved out when I shipped to boot camp. Living in the barracks.

Well, technically I'm living in a hotel as of now, soon to be on a ship, but you get the idea.

Live on Campus during the school year, but during the Summer I stay at my parents' pad (To save money and stuff).

'Course, that's changing in about a year, so any tips would be most appreciated Redeemer :)

Let's see in early 2008 I moved out and got a place with some friends, I lived there all of 2009 and 10, then in 2011 I lived there for awhile and then shifted to a military base while on duty, then I came back and expect to be there for years to come. Unless I go to college which seems likely.

Moving out again anytime now. This time permanently, I hope. Lived by myself for a year when I was in high school, around when I first came to the site. One would think there'd be a lot more responsibility, chores and stuff to do when you're alone, but I found it to be strictly opposite. Best, most relaxing time I've ever had.

Mexican culture kinda encourages late moving out or until you get married, sorta because of the economy and whatnot. Since I live super close to my campus (3 minutes drive :P) I don't need to move to the dorms. So yeah, I'm still living with my folks for a while, I don't really need to move out anytime soon. 80% of people in my campus still lives at home (aka, with parents), so I'm not "abnormal", like I said, it might just be cultural? I dunno.

I have, however, been far away from home for extended periods of time so I'm already used to a married life already :P

I'm moving out on Saturday, so any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated :)

I'm not really worried about missing family, I've lived away from home a ton of times in the past under various circumstances so it's fine, but this is the first time I have no friends around as a safety net. Seeing I'm starting uni then I guess were all in the same boat, but I'm just wondering how long it'll be (if at all) before I find a group of friends I can be myself around and fit with. I'm reasonably sociable and can talk to most people, but getting on and being friends is a big difference. I could probably make friendly chat with somebody who's sole interests are Sex and Football, but we would never work as friends as our personalities would just be too different.

Has anybody got any tips on finding the right people at uni? I know that I can't expect to find another Starfox obsessive who also loves Rollercoasters, Internet culture and cult movies with a huge passion, as that's far too specific a match, but can I be reassured that there'll be at least someone who shares one of my interests? Even a similar sense of humour is a starting point :)

I "live away from home" on my college campus. I go home on the weekends to make sure my cat doesn't hate me.

I'm pretty used to living with Steve, like he mentioned above, though.

All that boils down to "Yes that guide would be wonderful." A guide for house hunting would be nice, too. A nice, general guide, of course, haha.

Was gonna move out soon, shit happened, I lost my $350 due to their lack of care when it comes to getting a place down, and I learned. Other than that, haven't moved out yet, but really want to.

I have yet to move out of my folks place. I can't yet until I finish my courses in computer science, then I can head to the much better campus to focus on becoming a graphic designer. Also I can't leave because I'm broke as hell. :hehe:

I moved out of my dad's place and into my mom's, from which I moved into my sister's place.

I'm getting there, just give me time. Once Redeemer and I start our imported chip selling business I'll start saving money for my own place :P

Then I can help you. Cooking is my passion, and I'm a student so I reckon I'm doing something right.
