DZComposer
I just realized that some internet speak and some memes are actually examples of logical fallacies. I will list some of them: Tu Quoque Tu Quoque is when you deflect an argument by arguing that the perpetrator of the argument does what they argue against. This fallacy is easily explained by this meme: Red Herring Deflect an argument by bringing up something unrelated. The meme: Your Argument is invalid. The Anecdotal Fallacy Give a single, unverified, story as evidence. The meme isn't an example of this, but rather a simple rebuttal: Ad Hominem To deflect an argument by inferring something undesirable about your opponent. Some variants of the Advice Animal meme. Though, many variants also show Tu Quoque Equivocation Confuse meanings of a word in order to deceive your opponent. Filibuster While not technically a fallacy, one commits filibuster by trying to talk-over their opponent and not letting them get a word in edge-wise. Watch some YTPs for annoying and obnoxious examples of these.
psy_commando
Yeah, but most of those memes are mostly for lulz so they don't hold any values in serious arguments. Aren't arguments considered fallacies if they're actually used in a debate ?
unoservix
that last one isn't a fallacy, it's a play on words fallacies only come in when you're actually making arguments besides which, i don't think the "I have a melon / I am the President of Asia / This bunny has a pancake on its head / etc, therefore your argument is invalid" meme is actually, you know, serious. in fact, i doubt most of these image memes are seriously trying to advance arguments
Furygun81
I've never heard of most of these memes but eh, makes sense I suppose. I must say though I've never seen someone use Equivocation is an argument before, and if they use a Red Herring then that's trolling at it's best. Where's this one then? Nah I'm joshing (< lol?) with you. The only time that ^ could come up in an arguement is if somebody just royally screwed themselves and don't know what to do next A: Well, as shown by logic, 2 + 2 = 4 B: Well that's obviously not true! A: How do you care to prove this? B: Um.......... P: Shoulda done a barrel roll.
Asper Sarnoff
besides which, i don't think the "I have a melon / I am the President of Asia / This bunny has a pancake on its head / etc, therefore your argument is invalid" meme is actually, you know, serious. in fact, i doubt most of these image memes are seriously trying to advance arguments In this case, the points seems to be to explain some various fallacies trough memes, so that more people will actually get them. Furygun81
Well in my opinion it's fallacies adapted for the modern age, such as the police making anti-social signs in text speak. And yep, I said it. Modern, age.
DZComposer
Hey, even if they aren't technically arguments, they make good examples.
