Good headset?

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for a good headset that's preferably easy on the ears, so I can wear it for long periods of time without them feeling sore after. Of course, there is a difference between a high quality gaming headset and a high quality headset that's specifically for music - I'm looking for a mixture of both.

If anyone can recommend something that's primarily easy on the ears but delivers amazing quality as well and is under $120 or so that would be great. Bonus points if you've used said devices. :)

Here's hoping this will help, but I've heard fairly good things about the new Sony PS3 Stereo Headset if you're in the market for that sort of thing; it also connects to PC/Mac.

I use Gigaware, but it can get annoying on the ears.

^ I'm guessing Fatal1ty uses those - I can't believe just by being good at FPSes you can make merchandise out of it...

I've been using lately these here Fatal1ty.

What do you think of those? They look nice and comfortable. My current headphones don't fit too well…

Sorry, User, but I don't really have any suggestions. I've been searching for the best/cheapest ones too.

Well, I do have one suggestion, but they're too much for me and I'm not sure how good they are: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104281

Well I like them. No pain towards my ears when I wear them. They don't leave an increase in my hair. It's fairly easy to change the length to fit my head. Plus they can change into just a headset so. I give them a 4/5.

:-)

Best way to tell is from the general reviews of other users and try and find a general consensus over what is good and what isn't. I like Newegg.com but it's Canadian equivalent jacks up the prices on the same items way too much. That G35 at newegg.ca is on sale for $110.99 even though the exchange rate is virtually the same now. It's no wonder I buy all my stuff in the U.S. >_>

i use a cheap random head set i picked up form a store, it never gets irritating on my ears and i can hear just about everything fine. srry i cant tell you what they are, but i why would you get a 100 dollar device when my 3 dollar one works almost a well.

That's nothing less than a flat-out lie. If you've ever used a $100 headset and compared it to a "$3" one, you'd easily see the difference in performance, build quality, controls, features, etc.

Oh believe me, you'll get what you pay for. Some headsets are way overprised, but shelling out for some good quality ones will be an investment you won't come to regret. All the cheaper ones I've had, and a lot of the better ones too, I find uncomfortable wearing over time. Might be that my head is rather large, and so are my ears, so they'll pinch in more than the average guy. Besides, sound quality differs quite a lot from headset to headset. Just try swapping back and forth, and you'll immediatly hear a difference.

I'm currently using a Steelseries 5H V2. My second set, the first ones got the chord snapped while travelling, and I like them rather a lot. They are comfy to wear, decent sound quality, and with quite a punch if you like your bass. Retractable microphone is nice too, chord is sleved, and it comes with an adapter so you can connect it trough an USB port. They are very bulky however, and sometimes you might get a little interference when you change the volume. I suspect this might be because of oxidation on the volume wheel, as it goes away when you twist the wheel back and forth a couple times.

The only headset I've used is a Microsoft Lifechat LX-3000. Since it's the only headset I've used I wouldn't know how well it sounds compared to other headsets. But it has never made my ears sore after a long time of use. The sound quality is good in my opinion, but there are likely a lot better headsets out there. From what I've heard, Fatal1ty headsets are very good. I've also talked to Fatal1ty myself. He kicks ass.

Get a nice pair of JVC HA-RX700 headphones, then get a good cheap Logitech mic like I use for $10 or so. That's my setup and I LOVE IT

Well, either those or my fancy KOSS K/40LC Plus headphones from the 80's. Hot damn those are fancy. Make me want to get my bell bottoms on and hit the disco.

These are what I wear.

They're rather comfortable and good quality. Just don't wear them all day for a week straight, then it can hurt a bit to wear them.

Honestly, while I do like the G330s, they can be annoying because of the behind-the-head design; leaning your head back when your neck gets tired is a problem. That, and the headset is -very- quiet on my PS3, and one of the speakers on the left side works sporadically. I didn't even use them much!

They're not really meant for PS3, and I prefer the behind-the-head design. I haven't had a problem with them, other than when wearing them all day all week, which did make it a bit painful. But they were comfortable longer than most other headsets I've used.
