Need help finding a monitor

Hello everyone, I was looking around newegg and was having trouble looking for a rather specific setup of a monitor, I was wondering if anyone knew of one because I couldn't find a monitor that fit my needs. (Need something on the cheap) I understand if no one's able to find it, no big deal.

Preferred resolution: 1440x900 (The only monitors I find a 1080p high res when I only want this small res. I'll settle for a sensible resolution, but I don't want both numbers to reach over 1000, just the horizontal.

Preferred connection method: HDMI (Hard to find on monitors that are 1440x900)

I'm also wondering if ANY monitor with speakers will play sound from HDMI cables as well as your computer's audio out.

The main reason I want HDMI and sound is because I'm also planning on using the monitor for playing Xbox 360, so it's really hard to find a good monitor for the job.

Thanks for your time.

EDIT: I have realised that this is a very rare monitor to find, so now just any 1440x900 monitor with speakers will do on the cheap, I'll just go buy an Xbox 360 video adapter.

Yeah, you're going to need to do some serious digging for that.

Though, just because the max resolution is 1920x1080 doesn't mean it can't display other resolutions. They may not look as great, but it is possible.

Whether or not the monitor has speakers and whether or not it takes sound over HDMI will depend on individual specs.

Any particular reason why 1920x1080 is bad?

I'm just very used to 1440x900 and honestly prefer the 16:10 ratio. It's hard to find monitors for, but I find it to be a good monitor for several things. (I have such trouble finding them, yet nearly every LCD monitor in my school is 1440x900 and have speakers. My final reason is if I can only go so high overall for resolution, I won't push it, theoretically making my hardware seem good for a slightly longer time, and will cost less in most cases. Anyways, I think I'm fine settling for a monitor that supports both DVI and VGA. (The 560 Ti I'm planning on getting only puts out DVI or HDMI mini, so I need DVI in the monitor) and have had an easy enough time finding them.

LCD panel makers like 1920x1080 because they get to put "Full HD" on the box. I'm upset because this has stunted video resolution. Computer monitors were destined for some truly awesome resolutions until HD became a buzzword that had to be on every display.

Though, if you're wanting to use it for Xbox, I would go with one that does 1920x1080 so that those games look right.

Computer was a bigger focus for what I'd use the monitor for, and Xbox 360 was just so I wouldn't have to pack a big TV with me at LAN parties, at home, I'll just use my TV. The other reason for my preference to 16:10 was because you can run a widescreen movie and still have the task bar up, as well as having a bigger feeling screen. And while yes, you can simply run at a lower res, it feels weird to not run a native res that for my standards, is a ridiculously high res. Another reason which is kind of a "kludge" idea. When you have the slightly taller 16:10 ratio, you can run the older 1024x768 and similar resolutions without "Panel fit" on and won't have nearly as bad stretching compared to 16:9 (I've done that quite a lot on my crap top) Either way, sorry to argue for my res, I've just gotten real used to my current resolution and don't want to change. (That and I'm afraid that the PC I plan on building won't be able to handle 1920x1080 natively in every game) Either way, thanks for the help, its cool to find out why exactly most monitors are now 1080p.

If you just want to use it mainly for your computer then a 1080p monitor is fine. Just change the resolution to 1440x900… right? And when you Xbox on it it will be true HD and look great. (Assuming the game you're playing is HD)

You sure the ones in your school aren't really just scaled down to 1440x900?

But anyway, I, too, love 1440x900 and can't help you find what you're looking for…if you didn't have to have built in speakers then it's easy to find a 1440x900 monitor, but with speakers… not so much.

I'm absolutely sure my school's monitors are 1440x900, I have to up them to Max res in CAD class all the time, also 1080p is a 16:9 screen ration, 1440x900 is a 16:10 ratios. That means there would either be stretching or panel fit. Also, I've seen most budget 1440x900 monitors run for about 20-40 dollars less. And the 360 supports 1440x900, I've seen plenty videos using that resolution. I'm not using this as a main screen for my Xbox, so how they look isn't important at all. The most I'll use them for is Halo at a LAN party.
