I dunno, with few exceptions, its hard to find one that isnt boring/ perverted/ unexciting. ITs hard looking for good SF fan fic on fanfiction.com Can anyone validate my feelings on SF fanfic? And "in comparison" to Harry Potter? That fandom has produced some of the creepiest, strangest and most pathetic fanfiction I have ever seen. The only reason you have a chance of finding some gems is because there are millions in that fandom, instead of the couple hundred in ours. I guess you have read more Harry Potter than I have. I have only read good ones I guess. I guess I just object to the Gay Falco Fox stories, and the Pedophiliac Star wolf stories. I have nothing agianst gay people, I just am not a huge fan of what they do. I also dont like that lifestyle being projected onto Fox and Falco. You have any favorite SF fanfics? You can't have nothing against somebody while having something against what makes those people what they are. As for why star fox fan fiction is 'lacking,' I have no idea. Maybe because it's a domain almost exclusively inhabited by furries, and by extention, furry depravities? That's the only reason I can think of off the top of my head. But just being straight, I dont like reading about gay sex r among starfox characters, expecially since it is a grated franchise. @ redeemer. So you dont recommend that story? The good ones are there, but you'll have to do a little sifting to find them. The technique I use if trying to dig something out of FF.net is to find a writer who's stories I liked, then check their userpage for their favorites. This method is fairly effective for weeding out the better works from the chaff, but it's not exact. Figure out something that works for you, and do it. I think it has a lot to do with the issue of most Star Fox fanfiction being based around Original the Character and their own Galaxy/Star/Moon/etc Fox/Wolf/Bird/etc team and how awesome they are compared to Star Fox and how the main character Gary Stu who is a black wolf with a demon inside him hooks up with Krystal and her hot sister Ruby while defeating zombie aliens infected with space-AIDS with his badass custom Arwing. tl;dr rediculous wish-fulfillment that has nothing to do with Star Fox aside from the name and is generally lacking in storytelling sense and grammatical/spelling achievement. This isn't Star Fox-exclusive, though. Most fic writers have a distinct lack of ability to recapture the world of the original series and present it in a way believable and refreshing within the realm of that franchise. An Entire wizarding world thats only very partially explained, allowing for many diffrent interpretations and ideas. Its about a Boy and his friends fighting fundimental Evil in the world, and the Charecters are varied to the point where every kind of archtype is found. What does Star fox have? An entire Solar system whose planet's are gone just enough into detail that imagination cannot grasp its might hold. is about a team of Mercinaries who fight a questionably evil Floating Head, and the cahrecters are minimal with the slightest of differences. Those all count for very valid reasons, and based on Redeemer's reactions they seem to be the right ones. It's an ambitious project to write a complete backstory for the known series, including the Star Fox team itself. It is technically about the SF team, insofar as their origins and other unexplained elements of the series are laboriously filled in by yours truly. And yes, It's supposed to be one of the precious few SF fanfics that don't completely and utterly suck. Starwing_93 Posted October 31, 2011 Share Posted October 31, 2011 Without doubt, in any series there is a greater proportion of utter dross that people pass as fanfiction compared to actual decent storytelling that does the source material justice. As many have said, alot of fanfiction is just fans with little to no skill or knowledge in how to write fiction translating their personal fantasies to paper, and in Star Fox it is no different. It may seem that Harry Potter has a much greater pool of decent fanfics, but that's only because the fandom is much larger so there are more examples of decent writing. If you break it down to a ratio however of decent stuff : self indulgent crap, it's probably a similar figure. I read Star Fox fanfics that expand the characters personalities, take the existing game world and flesh it out, that is why stuff like the reflections series works, it clearly considers the source material and then expands on it, giving a quality story based around a world and characters familiar to us. As Fox and Redeemer have clearly said though, there are so many more examples of nasty self actualising OC Fics and nasty pointless crossovers that serve no purpose, and as Fox rightly said, these should never be written at all. It's not so much fiction to entertain fans, it's more desperate people believing that others will actually want to read the twisted fantasies that go on in their heads. The truly sad thing about these kind of fanfics, SF or no, is the fact that there is actually a segment of readers that eats these things up like candy, further feeding the delusions. I would be interested if you tackled the early teams relationship with Pigma. Did they ever actually like him? Did he "turn evil" or was he always a selfish opportunist, jsut helping James and Peppy because at the time they seemed " the best?" Your prose is very good. Let us not forget that the mindless droll of badfanfiction is nessisary to appreciate the good ones more. I'd be comforted by these words, if only the truly good fanfiction actually was appreciated the way it deserves. Whether it be Sirius black molesting Harry, or Wolf molesting young Fox, There seem to be too many. Sometimes the story seems fine for a page before degenerating.
