American Airlines Bankrupt

Well, I just learned that American Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, another sign that the world's economy is going down the toilet.

They have been going into "almost" bankruptcy for a while already, I'm surprised they lasted this long. Plane ticket prices will surely sky-rock. Luckily for me, I always fly with Continental Airlines, so it won't affect me.

Now why would the planes take off if they can't afford fuel? No one is that incompetent.

This was inevitable. AA couldn't compete with other airlines that already went into and emerged from Chapter 11. Furthermore, the airline was consistently rated among the worst in things like customer service. The airline industry has some of the lowest margins out there.

I try and fly Southwest whenever I can because they have had, for a number of years, the best prices and best customer service according to several studies. Furthermore, they don't charge for two checked bags. Sadly, Southwest isn't available at all airports but it's really the only airline that is still faring pretty damn well.
