TCPeppyTc
I was wondering, I need to answer this question for a four page history paper: " Waht do I think are the threee most important and persisntent principles which have determined us foreign policy over the course of the nations history?" I have 1. Expansion, both territorially and culturally ( during 20th century) 2. Promotion of capitalism, 3. lack of involvemnt in entangling alliances

Drasiana
I think the idea behind the assignment is you answering it to prove you're actually learning something in your class.
unoservix
American foreign policy is historically the story of reversal. You know, life getting flipped, turned upside down. It's a long story and all, but if you sit here and listen for a minute, I'll explain how the United States became king of the world. It all started in west Philadelphia. The Founding Fathers were chilling in their convention and setting up a new government, being all cool. Then Britain and the Indians started causing trouble in the region. So you could think of the first American foreign policy as a reaction to the looming threat of more powerful empires and the ever-present conflict with the natives on the western border. At any rate, George Washington took one look at these conflicts and got scared and said "don't get in alliances with Europeans over there." more later
TCPeppyTc
It is to prove I learned something. I have a decent handle on it, just wanted some input. We were taught facts, not overrarching principles. I feel Ive got a good handle, just a few " second opinons" wont hurt. I have an " A" so far in class.
