Do Wii Like the Name?

The Nintendo Revolution has been officially revealed as the Nintendo Wii or just "Wii." If you haven't seen it yet, look at http://revolution.nintendo.com/, where they explain the name and what it means.

So, what do you think? Like the name? Hate it?

Me, I don't like the name that much, but if it's fun, they could call it the Nintendo Mucus, and I'd still play it.

O.o

I think Reggie Fils-Aime is on crack again.

While it's interesting (at least, much more interesting than the competition's numbers), it's a bit...strange. I just dunno if I can go about asking people "Have you bought that new game for your Wii?"

It doesn't sound right. ><

I doubt that Reggie is behind this. This smells like something from NCL.

Anyhows, I think I'm over the shock. The shock made me think the name was horrid. But now I'm over it.

This name is actually marketing genius. This name has already given the Wii an explosion of attention.

Image that you've been living uner a rock for the past few years and decide to go console shopping. You see three names: Xbox360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. Which one is more likely to grab your eye first?

Even if you haven't been living under a rock, it will catch your attention.

All that aside, the name is exactly what Nintendo wants with this console: IT IS DIFFERENT!

Unfortuneately, though, in English Wii sounds like "Wee" so it is incredibly easy to make fun of, but hey, I think this name might just be crazy enough to work. Just like the Wii's controller is crazy enough to work.

I can't believe that Nintendo has cast down the perfectly good name of Rev for this. Ah well, I will still be getting it because, its nintendo! Oh and because Nintendo make Star Fox. I just wonder about the spelling of it. I mean Wii? what significance does it have? Is it going to be part of the final secret? The "i"s in it may relate to apple because Nintendo and Apple seem sort of alike. We don't know that yet do we? and by the look of it, Nintendo.com is simply guessing the big question,"why wii?"

EDIT: Don't know if that post did, but I really just needed to vent a bit of anger. I really don't mind the name. I usually say the name of the game i wanna play instead of the system so yeah, I really don't mind that much. And if I do refer to the system, I will refer to it as the Nintendo Wii. In reply to Dwight's post (below) I will say yes I saw that but the name itself, not just the letters, I think the name will link up to the last secret.

The 2 i's represent both the idea that it's a system that brings people together to play and the are intended to look like the remote controllers.

And another thing:

Wii is easy to say.

XBOX 360 = 5 syllables

Playstation 3 = 4 syllables

Revolution = 4 syllables

Wii = 1 syllable

He he, and in France, it's the "Nintendo Yes." :oops:

I'll just not add to thier self Multalation and call the the REV.

Even "Dolphin" was a better name.

Nintendo has a habit of coming up with with awsome project mane, then throwing them in the trash, so no one else can use something like Revilutio coupled with an overpower clichéd system and take over the world..........

N64: Project Reality

GC: Dolphin (this is better then Game Cube, yep, fun in little white cubes...

Wii (cough): Revilution....(sp?)

SNES: Playstation (yes it IS true, they worked with sony on it....)

they where silly to let sony have that lable, look what it did to them......

Brriliant Gamemakers, but not too Brilliant businessmen....*sigh*

I forsee they will stop making consoles soon, as sega did, and now they are doing OK.

Uhm.... You couldn't be more wrong. Nintendo has only one quarter of loss in it's entitre public history. How is that not a shining example of good business practice? MS and Sony (Hell, at least 90% of companies out there) can only dream of that kind of financial record.

Maybe they're marketing in the US could use some change, but it isn't horrible. Nintendo knows how to be profitable.

I actually don't mind the name at all. Being unique is what Nintendo does best. 'sides, it's a NAME. It has no real effect on the system itself. I'm more interested in what it's gonna be capable of.

You know what they are saying now? The Wii name is a fake anouncement by Nintendo to drum up media buzz. The most compelling argument is that "Wii" is not trademarked anywhere.
:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::no::no::no::no::no::no: Omg omg, it might not be called the Wii!! yaaahooo!!! *happy dance**throws party in celebration* But seriously, if the name stays, I will still get it, be slightly dissapointed for like 3 seconds, play it and be overwhelmed in the ultimate gaming experience.

It's still a Revolution, just in a Wii package.

I love that saying.

^ That sounds so cool. ^^;

I know, and Wii sounds like wee, as in small and the Rev, er, Wii, is the smallest of all the consoles.
