I do not like the name. I thought revolution was a much better name.

Its not Totaly sure if that will be its name tougth..

but about this..

This name is actually marketing genius. This name has already given the Wii an explosion of attention.

Image that you've been living uner a rock for the past few years and decide to go console shopping. You see three names: Xbox360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. Which one is more likely to grab your eye first?

Even if you haven't been living under a rock, it will catch your attention.

doesn't "Revolution" brings much attention and grabs people eyes first?

but then there wouldn't exist/be any codename tougth...

A name is just a name..... The real deal is whether or not this next gen system can deliver just as good as it's competition. I'm hoping so.

Yeah, I will buy the console even if it ends up having that name. It will just be really annoying. Maybe I could paint over it or something if it is on the thing its' self.

I'm shure someone will offer case mods, or somthing.

without nintendo's permission.

'cuz I will enjoy removing the "wii" out of my rev forever even more!

I realized my previous statment may be somewhat unfounded. they are lucky enough to succeed, and good enough to run with it, I guess.

but to name your console after something that remids one of urinating!? that just dosen't make ANY sense, 'ept to be different.....

"Hey look, sony, we can name console somthing like "urinate one me", and We still sell, HAHA :| "

Sony:"O_o....Yep We'll just stick with PS 3"

The new name will open the console up for alot of bashing from Sony and Microsoft and their fans.

^ ^ yes but when they do that, you simply call them immature for making insults like that. Its not a great name, but the actual abilities of the console are incredible so I'm not too bothered.

as far as proformance, this is off wikipeadia, in a nutshell

Wii------------------------------|---Xbox 360-------------------------------------

CPU:729MHz dual core......|....3.2 Ghz tri-core

GPU:243 MHz, 3MBs...........|....dual chip(perant, dram) 500 and 300 Mhz

RAM:88 MB sram. ..............|....512 MB 700Mhz (1400 Effective) GDDR3

e xbox requires ALL games to run on Hi-def, the Wii can't even do hi def.......

MY CPU runs twics as fast as the wii's, and Xbox 360's goes twice as fas as mine.

I hope that controller rocks..........

SAorry that chart looks so ugly...

What people fail to realize is that Xbox 360 and PS3 are going to have A LOT of wasted power.

Will developers actually make games that use multiple threading? If not the multiple cores are just sitting there doing nothing.

Will the developers actually take advantage of all the graphics power? Or will they still do things like baking details on the textures?

Requiring HD is stupid. It drives up development costs and HDTVs don't have a big penetration yet. I'm hesitant of HD ans there isn't a lot of programming for it yet and there is a format war for the DVD movies. HD is not ready for prime time yet. I think Nintendo made a smart decision by leaving it out as it allowed them to drop development costs on the system (remember, Nintendo is games only. They can't afford to take loss-leads like Sony and Microsoft will both be doing) as most people who own one won't have an HDTV. This takes us back to the wasted power on the 360 and the PS3. HDTV is out there, but it isn't ready for prime time.

By the next console generation, though, I expect HD to be ready for the masses.

Remember RE4? That was a beautiful game in terms of detail (gore isn't pretty, but you know what I mean :( )

Red Steel looks even better. The Wii has power. Don't think otherwise. It may not be as much as PS3 and X360, but Wii will have the most important thing: GREAT GAMES. I would much rather play a great game with less detailed graphics that a crappy game that is photorealistic.

Also, STOP BELIEVING IN THE FREAKING MEGAHERTZ MYTH! and damn Intel for creating it. Clock speed means nothing these days. My AMD64 3500+ CPU runs at 2.2 GHz and it beats the living ubercrap out of the 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 that it replaced.

All three consoles are on different CPU archetectures. That completely nullifies the clock speed argument. While clock speed may mean something if the CPUs are the same archetecture, if they are different it means diddly-squat.

Yes and the new Nintendo machine will probably be the easiest to make games for. It has a simple hardware arcitecture compared to the other consoles, especially the PS3. How can Sony expect any developer to write code for a machine that has that many cpus and all that other stuff.

because they are going to go out and teach the developers how to otherwise they're screwed

Right on the money, DZComposer. I hate how people compare the systems. Technically, PS3 and XBOX 360 shouldn't even be classified as game systems, they are high end gaming PCs. A game system plays games, a computer does everything. Tech Convergence will never catch on, they tried it for the NES for crying out loud.

that's what I said when the X-BOX came out

and your exactly right they are more like computers than actual vg systems, credit nintendo for sticking to gaming

oh and by the way the reason tech convergance didn't catch on before is that the market wasn't ready for it, and I think everyone would rather listen to music and watch dvds than do taxes

My old 800MHz Duron ran about as fast as the school's 1.2GHz Pentium 4. No, clock speed is irrelevant unless you know about how much more efficient one processor is than another.

I'm also aware of the displacement mapping idea. Not sure if Nintendo uses it, but I have seen the patents and all. If they do, it'll probably produce on-par graphics (at least) with far less horsepower. Something ELSE that'll rule out Hz comparisons.

I personally don't care how many feature a gaming platform gives me if it doesn't have good games. I buy consoles to play games, not to play DVDs.

And I hope it'll be reliable. My XBox has alrady fried once, I've heard many stories about PS2s, and one of my friends' XBox 360 is currently experiencing -major- problems. My Cube has never given me ANY type of problem. I hope the Wii does the same.

I dunno if that´s true, but yeah the fact that nintendo is boosting other things reather than graphics,is true, so well, until they show us an official, 100% video with 100% of the revolution, I mean Wii ( ) Nintendo, we still are on the shadows...<.<

No, the consoles are not like end gaming PCs. Xbox choked on Quake4, just like Xbox360 chokes on the new Elder srolls. A good PC could run those at 60 frames per second. Despite what they say, consoles can't be as powerful as the PC.
